Since it’s pretty clear I’ve failed with inktober, I thought I might as well upload the three references I have done for Team Mint. I’m missing the last member’s but I’ve hit another slump so I’m not sure when I’ll get that done. (also I’m trying to ignore the fact that they’re all done in 3 different styles....) Anyways time to introduce my babies
LITMUS (nickname: Squig): As the captain of the Mint team, Litmus is the most experienced battler and takes matches very seriously. Countless matches filling the support role have shaped her primary play style to be an equal mix of both an aggressively mobile charger and the team’s main line of defence.
She’s a very humble winner and refuses to take credit for splats or wins, spending all her post-match efforts congratulating players on their tactics or encouraging the opposing team in the lobby. However, if there’s a more emotional loser around, the team has yet to find one. No matter the loss, Litmus considers it a personal failure and quietly slips away to Sheldon’s weapon training area to hone her skills for large periods of time, often remaining long after closing hours.
Outside of battle, Litmus is very quiet and often lost in thoughts of different strategies or past matches.
Favourite mode: Splat Zones
NEON (nickname and preferred name: Nessie): Not only is Nessie a new member of the team, she’s new to ink battles in general. She never had any interest in them until Litmus introduced her to Turf Wars. Being new to the sport, Nessie is often the one to charge straight into the thick of things without inking the base or seizing the main objective. Her incredibly reckless play style means she spends a lot of the match respawning, but her excited and carefree strategies are often unpredictable enough to catch her opponent off guard.
Nessie is often the one to cheer the loudest after a win and console and comfort the most after a loss. She hardly takes the sport seriously which can occasionally cause friction among the team, but her upbeat attitude wins her the role of a kind of mascot to make up for her need to be carried to victory.
Outside of battle, her upbeat attitude falls a bit to a more level-headed state. If she’s not battling, most of the time you can find her at the corner cafe in Inkopolis where she works part-time.
Favourite mode: Turf Wars
COBALT: Almost all of Cobalt’s ink battle experience comes from going into lobbies alone and matching up with other random solo players. Because of his first-hand exposure to nearly every different battle style there, he’s an incredible asset to Team Mint. His reflexive instinct on how to handle tough opponents often makes him the key component in making game changing plays, but his “lone wolf” mentality and determination to be at the top of the leader board leads to poor communication and organization among the team.
Cobalt’s attitude alone makes a good number of enemies for the entire team. He’s loud, cocky, arrogant, and borderline narcissistic, meaning his reactions to winning are boastful and condescending while losing is always brushed off with excuses. Despite Litmus’ pleas and lectures, he’s the most likely to ‘squidbag’ and taunt the opposing team in and out of battle. He also never shuts up about how ‘meta’ his weapon is, whatever that means.
Despite generally being an asshole in and out of battle, once he’s one on one with someone, his bad boy facade is more or less dropped and he becomes a relatively pleasant inkling to talk to.
Favourite mode: Rainmaker
CURIE: (Will add once I update with her reference)

So apparently @tamarinfrog ‘s sweetheart Vadelma has quite the wicked temper. Of course, I immediately took this as an explanation for why we never see her eyes.....
(This is a joke of course but I really wanted to draw this as a warmup!)

Inktober, day three - Mint team member number 4
And all the members are done! This guy doesn’t have a name either despite his character and personality being done already. I’ll be doing a team picture later once I catch up on the two days I missed

Inktober, day two - Mint team member number 3!
I have my team roughly planned out, so here’s a peak at one of the of the girls who as of yet doesn’t have a name since I’m not totally decided on it. This is rough but I decided I needed to get at least something out!

Inktober, day one - Random splotchy inkling
It’s been so long since I’ve done any traditional art... To say I’m rusty is an understatement x_x I’ve decided just to try to do one drawing a day during october! Although I’m not terribly confident I’ll be able to do it... I’ll try!

Ah I’m glad!!.... that makes me love her even more...
You’re so welcome! I really hope this gave a subconscious nudge towards the desire to show us how brutal this team is in battle :D
I like my bad characters extra extra bad.
After a few extremely infuriating matches against a golden dynamo roller, I needed to draw angry squid kids… The only thing I could think of all game is how good of a choice the dynamo was for the queen b*tch Belladonna, who I ADORE.
Honestly, tamarinfrog‘s Team Violet is my favourite of hers to date and I really wanted to draw my problematic fave, but I feel this is pretty out of character because I doubt Belladonna would let anyone talk to her like that without knocking the little squit out. I hope it’s okay for me to draw her like this, Tammy!
Anyways, have some Nessie about to get knocked straight back to spawn.
#SENPAI NOTICED ME AGAIN#grinning like an idiot#she even acknowledged ness omg#tammy you are so sweet to your fans

When you cost your team the match by playing like a complete sea slug (aka every rainmaker match for me)
Trying to draw really simple, not at all intimidating stuff to try and get back into the swing of things

For anyone who actually enjoys seeing my art, I promise I’m trying “OTL Hopefully I’ll be able to at least upload some sketches to pretend Im being productive

This jumbled mess is my master reference page for my squid babies for now.
(I took a bunch of extra shots with Nessie’s octobrush since I’m having a really hard time drawing it.)

So I sketched out a mini comic today based on a rainmaker match I had a few days ago, but I have a really poor understanding of how to position panels and what should be in each and pacing ect ect.
If anyone has any comic tips or resources I could use I’d be super grateful!
