still on the ref grind! but i also wanna post this to say. if you draw smthn that you feel looks like absolute dogshit, give yourself a while to decompress, gather inspiration, and better plan the piece in your mind. then go back and redraw it whenever you're able to!

i had to do this redraw of a ref i did just a couple days ago (under the cut) because i wasn't happy with the original no matter what i did. but coming back to it with a remade custom chain brush, ACTUALLY USING REFERENCES (including the concept sketch i made on paper), and a clearer mind helped a TON.

here's the original! i think one of the main problems was i tried to make it resemble Dross' ref, since he is one of her many children, but i can't help feeling that adding the ground detracts from her exaggerated size (she's supposed to be closer to the size of a megalodontia than a regular cohozuna and yes i have Lore Reasons), and i didn't experiment with the colors and textures enough. because of course her individual scales shouldn't be as visible as dross'! she's infinitely bigger than him!!!

and yeah i've also made some tweaks to the name too. since salmonids have Titles instead of regular names, it def took some workshopping to make it 1. flow better and not be awkward to say out loud and 2. fit her sheer size and presence

I’ve always wondered what the salmonid inside mudmouths look like. You can kinda see it when it’s splatted but I couldn’t capture it in a screenshot.

And also the salmonids inside grillers. Are they fully modeled or is it just their tails that are poking out?

the fact that literally all SCP games out there are just generic survival horror projects and that there's like basically nothing that actually utilizes the absolutely fuckhuge and extremely richly detailed (completely free to use in whatever way you want) world to tell an actually compelling story or even just do like literally any setting that isn't inside one of the facilities is genuinely such a tragedy. Give me a plot set amongst the rural Sarkics of like early 20th century Russia. Do a mystery/detective-style game set inside the academies of three Portlands. VA-11-HALL-A but you're a librarian inside the wanderer's library. UIU strategy game where you constantly encounter fucked up shit and have to use your very limited knowledge about the world you're in and even more limited funds to try and decide what incidents are worth investigating and how you deal with them like I am literally on my hands and knees begging. There's so so so much potential in this world that's just going completely unexplored when it comes to games pleeeease just do something other than escape from site 19 #1547786544 I'm actually starving here.

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
