I've gotten a few asks about LL's Ascent and rather than bury someone's feed in repeated explanations, I thought I would give another update summary!
I think we can agree that these edits have taken much longer than we ever anticipated. I know I expected to have the edits, if not the few chapter rewrites, finished a long time ago. Obviously that has not been the case.
TL;DR: I hated the fic for like a year and then I had to relearn how to like it again but we ball. I don't know when the edits will be done, but I no longer want to delete the fic permanently so that's good news! I appreciate your patience and the love you've shown this story. Thank you for never giving up on it. It taught me not to give up either.
[Check below for the long explanation.]
Part of the delay has been burnout. I have been taking classes through the summer season and it sucks. I have been so far removed from the dpxdc fandom that I read fics few and far in between. And most of all, I've just been really unhappy with LL's Ascent.
I only plan to rewrite three chapters and two of them are just for continuity's sake. But for the longest time I struggled to even just look at the fic because the story just feels foreign to me now. It includes headcanons I no longer agree with, characterizations I don't think are right, dialogue I absolutely cringe at. And for the chapters I felt most confident in... I also got the most push-back.
I know exactly where I want to go, and yet it feels like some readers just don't get the point. And I know I can't satisfy everyone. But when you're told that it doesn't make sense for Danny to sacrifice himself, when you've shown time and time again the pains Danny will go to if he thinks it will save someone? Protect someone? It felt like there was a disconnect there. Between the readers and I. And for a long time I blamed myself for it. That maybe I wasn't making his mile-wide martyr complex obvious enough.
But I've also learned that I can make a statement point blank and some people just won't get it. I've seen friends receive comments that wildly missed the message of the story. So I've had to relearn my relationship with this fic.
Yeah, there are still many elements I would never write now. But I don't want to get rid of it. Because I remember how many commentors did genuinely love it. How it comforted some readers. How it made others laugh. And maybe I can't derive the same amount of joy from this story like I used to, but that doesn't mean it's a failure. There are some chapters that I think are a riot, even to this day. There are some chapters that still make me cry, and it's proven to me that I still feel something for this fic. And I want to ride out that feeling for as long as possible.
So yeah, LL's Ascent won't be back for a while longer. At the earliest I can post a new chapter in December, fingers crossed, and that's because I'll have started my (extended) break from classes. But I still don't know if or how the burnout will affect me then. Life has been busy. Relationships are going down the drain around me and I'm desperately trying to keep them afloat. It's given me a lot of inspiration, borne of experience, for stories like LL's Ascent. Goodness knows that I understand, intimately, how Jazz feels now.
There's a lot more I want to do for this fic. I hope I can get there some day. For myself, and the fans who patiently waited with me all this time. I appreciate you.
This is halfagone, signing off.

The YouTube Blockout is still happening
Even if this is your first time hearing about it, you can still show your disapproval of the new policy by joining the blockout/boycott.
How?
Stop using YouTube. The best way to show our disapproval is by completely ignoring YouTube until they roll back this decision. There are lots of alternatives, and we are working on a masterlist. If you absolutely have to use YouTube in some capacity, I highly recommend using a front-end client like FreeTube. It gives you more privacy and doesn't have ads, but the best option is still to boycott YT entirely.
Use Google products as little as possible. I have switched over to Firefox, and there are lots of alternatives for lots of Google products. If anyone's interested in a specific list, I'll share what I find.
Sign this petition:
If you're interested, there's a Discord server for this, too, started by @gentleman-velvet. Look at their blog for more info about that.
But why are we doing this? Why should you care?
I'll let YouTube themselves explain it for me.
Tumblr media
[Alt: A screenshot of the YouTube policies page that reads: "For all U.S. accounts, YouTube employs a dual approach by using self-declared age as well as the application of an age estimation model that uses machine learning to determine whether a user is over or under 18. Regardless of the birthday in the account, this technology enables us to deliver age-appropriate product experiences and protections, treating teens as teens and adults as adults. How it works: We use AI to interpret a variety of existing signals that help us to determine whether a user is over or under 18. These signals include the types of videos a user is searching for, the categories of videos they have watched, or the longevity of the account. When we identify a teen user, we’ll automatically apply our safeguards, including: -Disabling personalized advertising and restricting age-sensitive ad categories -Turning on digital wellbeing tools -Adding safeguards to recommendations, including limiting repetitive views of some kinds of content. Users have the option to verify that they are 18 or over by using a credit card or a government ID. We only allow users who have been inferred or verified as over 18 to view age-restricted content that may be inappropriate for younger users.]
Read that all the way through. According to YouTube, if their AI thinks you watch childish content, regardless of the birthdate you associated with your account, your account could be restricted until you provide either a government-issued photo ID or a credit card to verify your age. This is what they themselves are saying.
Personally, I don't want a private company to have images of my ID or my credit card. I feel that that is an invasion of my privacy. I fear what might happen in the case of a data breach. And Google has fairly frequent data breaches. Just search (with any other search engine) "google data breach recent" and see for yourself.
And consider adults who don't have either a government-issued photo ID or a credit card. What then? It would appear from the policies described on YouTube's website that they are just out of luck in that instance.
This could very well affect animation on YouTube. It could affect gameplay videos. It could affect anything and everything that their AI might deem "childish."
YOU SHOULD CARE

setting up a tiny detail in one chapter to pay it off in the next few chapters feels sooo devious like oooh i can't wait to write the small little reference here that 70% of readers will miss but 30% of readers will cheer for

"you're the writer, you control how the story goes" no not really. i wrote the first sentence and then my characters said "WE WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE" and promptly swerved into an electrical fence.

Pincushion Post
With my one-off dabble in posting fictional works expanding, it's probably good to be organized.
Whomever you are, welcome! Most of this blog is just me aggregating content I enjoy. However, I also write things, on occasion. To cut through the nonsense and memes (which, I mean, I enjoy) you can find quick links and brief explanations here.
Synoverse:
This one began with a response to one of Writing-prompt-s's writing prompts, which I have since titled 'Call Me Menace.' Written in second person, you are Synovus, a villain of significant renown. You've kidnapped your rivals' child... and you may be the best parent they've ever had.
'Call Me Menace' is here on Tumblr and here on Ao3, if you prefer the formatting over there.
The sequel, 'Villains Never Retire,' was planned to be a two-parter once it got long, and is now going to be at least three actually four parts. You can find all of it on Ao3 here.
Otherwise, Villains Never Retire (1) and Villains Never Retire (2) , Villains Never Retire (3) and Villains Never Retire (4) are here on Tumblr!
In Progress: Tell No Lies. Part One on Tumblr, and the Ao3 Posting.
Side Stories: Siren Call (1) is a third person expansion, taking place after VNR, and following Minerva as she navigates the fallout. Part two is here, and Part Three is here to wrap up the chapter! Ao3 listing as per tradition.
Synovus: A Wishing Star. A terminally ill child wishes to meet Synovus - for reasons Synovus doesn't anticipate. Heed its warnings. Prequel to 'Call Me Menace.’ Here on Ao3
Additionally, you can search the tag #synoverse on my blog for any asks I've answered about the universe, commentary, or the occasional sneak peek at the next installment.
Who the Hell Are You?:
Starting with a tagged prompt from writing-stuff, WtHAY is written in third person! Join a huntress of things that go bump in the night and her forcibly deputized changeling ally as they seek revenge for an attack on Navi's life - as soon as she can get up off of this couch.
Part one Here on Tumblr, and here on Ao3!

hey halfa are you going to continue bloodline? It’s a very unique story and it has so much protection
P.S (love your work and thank you for writing Good stories and sorry for my bad English)
hello! ヾ(≧▽≦*)o and no need to apologize, I understood you!
I do plan to continue bloodlines! I wish I could give you an exact schedule to look forward to, but that's just not possible right now. I have received so many lovely comments on bloodlines recently, and reading back on some older comments from last year (I still can't believe my last update was in 2024 fml) it truly did remind me how much I enjoyed writing this story. And I'm happy to see that you enjoy it too! It's very self-indulgent, and you know what? I should try to indulge in it one of these days.
Thank you for your kind words~! I wish you good health <3

idea: scene with two characters eagerly stripping each other clearly about to bone, but they keep getting interrupted by finding carefully concealed weapons in each other’s clothing, so they keep just unholstering, revealing and unstrapping increasingly ludicrous amounts of hidden guns and knives as the clothes come off, and it’s lowkey killing the mood a little
