❤️💙Tumblr Tuesday: Ao3 x Tumblr—Love wins 💙❤️
It finally happened. After some romancing in the ballpit, we popped the question and, folks, THEY SAID YES.
In short, we're in love! Now, we're in need of a ship name. Can you help? Vote below, or let us know if you come up with something better. This is now a matter of grave importance.
(Thanks to all the folks on X who added some excellent (& some funny) suggestions to our little list)
Anyway, the fan art is already absolutely incredible, thank you for celebrating with us:

okay, but consider the beautiful possibility of this: enemies to lovers.
being drawn to a person who you are so diametrically in opposition of. being the foil to each other's character and the force that propels them forward. being obsessed with each other to a degree that the narrative shifts, and you are now either spiraling into mutually assured destruction, or the catalyst of growth, but either way you do it together or not at all.
it's knowing exactly what the other is capable of and the lengths they will go. to achieve their ends, to protect this status quo, to protect each other.
Friends to lovers is a special trope to me.
It’s the tension between wanting something more and being terrified to lose the relationship that they have. It’s the way they’ve been the most important person in each other’s lives for a while but never computed the way they are until now. It’s the inside jokes and comfortable ribbing that comes from knowing each other a long time. It’s the way no one’s opinion ever matters more than theirs. It’s the way that they’re always the first person that the other goes to for advice, but they can’t talk to them about this. It’s the way they already know so much about each other. It’s the way they’re already comfortable together and would trust the other with anything in the world.

ANOTHER HOT TAKE, but Sheryl Crow's version of "Sweet Child o' Mine" is actually better than the Guns N' Roses original.

HOT TAKE but i've seen some posts where people are using terms like, "IQ," or "asocial" and the posts seem to be made in a fun, meme-ish way, and the posts are actually supporting people who don't like to talk to others, or aren't represented by a majority population. Or the posts are just like, complaining jokingly about Redditors.
And there is always somebody pointing out how those words tie back to the Nazis and seeming to blame the OPs and shame them out of using them further but like?
Words are just words? Like, I know that words can hurt people, and we should not use our words to hurt people, but if we can reclaim slurs what's up with this stuff?
These aren't even slurs. They were just a bunch of words that a very bad bunch of people liked to throw around. And I often don't even know their apparent associations until somebody points it out in the comments or reblogs or whatever.
It doesn't seem like people should allow words to have this kind of control over them; it doesn't seem healthy.
I don't think words actually have any kind of taint over them from past people who have used them like these commenters seem to imply. Especially words that aren't actual slurs and do not intend to insult.
Is that naive of me? It doesn't feel that way. It seems like these people are giving a cop-out answer designed to give excuses not to use words. And not LEARN. Not to expand your vocabulary because some of these words are "bad."
I don't think censorship and avoidance of specific words is an answer that helps ANYONE. And I don't think words can be bad. I think using your words in a way that does not cause other people harm is important, and I think some words HAVE come mean something that is designed to hurt other people, but aren't the people who perpetuated that hurtful meaning the bad ones, or the mean ones, or whatever, instead of the words?
It seems like people are letting these words have some kind of special negative power over themselves. And it feels like these people are the irresponsible ones, instead of the people using the words in their posts innocently.
But I'm thinking of like, the Aryan meme template, right? I agree we shouldn't use that because it's racist. Is that contradicting my argument?
I feel like it isn't. I think it's a difference between actions and words.
Like racist depictions being spread and promoted even while being used in a way to make light of something else is still spreading racist imagery, and that action spreads racism.
But using words that some mean people liked to say to categorize the terrible experiments they did does not irreparably tie those words to those actions.
IQ is stupid. I don't think it's a great means of testing the intelligence of people. But I don't think it is a bad word that I shouldn't use just because the Nazis liked to use IQ tests as justification.
I think I'm not going to fly the swastika on my flag pole because that is a symbol of all the hate, eugenics, discrimination, and the terrible mistreatment of people that I don't agree with.
I think Images like those: the swastika, and the Aryan race meme templates, and the Hitler salute, are kind of in the same category of being symbolically linked to Nazi actions, and so shouldn't be spread because you (I'm assuming) don't agree with what they represent and do not support those actions.
But words can't be symbolically linked to actions in that way. Words have a set meaning, always. And there can be multiple meanings. And meanings can evolve. But the word does still ALSO mean what it did once upon a time.
Words are not a stand in, equivalent of action or belief. They can be used to express those ideas, but it's not the same.
I dunno. I just get frustrated with the people who endlessly point out how Nazis liked to say this, so now you can't say it, because it feels like they're missing the point.

at first i was upset about tfr bc of the fkin bleakness (i thought mi was about hope and love saving the day.) then i realised mi has always been about a bleak world and that the people who save it don't get cookie cutter happy endings. the more you try to save the world the more it cuts you down. and you still get up and do it all over again. bc there's nothing else worth living for. and that makes me delirious. truly the most movie franchise of all time forever.
