I love Al and Mei’s dynamic because it’s basically the “Kick his ass, baby. I got your flower” dynamic.

They’re huge badasses, prodigies even. Alphonse is a more pristine and straight-to-the-point fighter than Ed and also has the same amount of skill and intellect used alchemy-wise. This boy used a philosopher stone to defeat Kimblee but not only that he thought outside of the box and transmuted the length of his own weapon to get around Kimblee’s counterattacks. A fucking powermove. The boy knows what he’s doing. And then you have Mei, who introduces herself by saving an entire mine shaft from destruction without even breaking a sweat! Breaks the necks of chimeras in an instant, is physically and mentally capable, can stand by herself without much assistance in a fight, and is just an overall badass.

Al trusts Mei so much when stuff gets intense. He knows how powerful she is. This child looked at Father and told Al that she was going to take him with her bare hands, and Al was just like ‘aw fuck she’s serious’. When he knew he had to trade his soul for Edward’s arm, Mei knew in an instant what he was about to do. And even though she had no clue what was about to happen at that point, she acknowledged that Al could be lost forever, and in spite of all those fears, she still respected his decision to create the exchange.
