I actually designed her little over a month ago, but haven't been able to draw her until now because of ArtFight. I remembered to draw her early in August, at least!

The 2025 Gender Census is now open!

The 12th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 30th August 2025.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

I find it funny, but also a bit strange that boygirls/girlboys/etc are considered nonbinary. Like, objectively, you might say it's the binary. So why is it considered nonbinary? I know other people might feel that way, and sometimes I even do, but again, I'm kind of literally the binary. I'm "both ends." It may ebb and flow between which gender I feel and what presentation I want, but I'm still both.

In fact, I unintentionally hold in womanhood and femininity. If I was more serious, then no one would view me the way I want them to. I don't want anyone else to be using feminine words for me, not even in a joking way; not without explicit permission, anyway. I know people aren't going to respect me, regardless, and try to weaponize these things against me, but I'm talking about people who actually matter. Friends and family and partners and etcetera.

Some months ago, I found an old dress that still fits. Every time I'm getting ready to hang out with friends, I look at the dress and I feel so torn. It's white and the fabric is light, so it might be great for the Florida heat, especially in the summer. I might even look cute. But then I think about the last time I wore dress around them, for Halloween, and was asked if I still was a trans guy. I want to wear this dress so bad, but I can't handle being asked about it again. I don't want to sit them all down and explain my "real" gender. I want to be able to be feminine and still have all the usual things: my chosen name, he/him, one of the guys, dap up or whatever it's called. I don't want them to slip up and feel bad. I should probably still tell them, but I don't know. The only people I've told are online friends and my best friend, not counting my online presence.

My womanhood is... I don't know. It's soft and sweet and sisterly. It's tough and loud and knightly. I always loved knights, growing up. I wanted to be a female knight, and I absolutely loved Quest for Camelot. As I was saying, it's feminine and masculine. It's cute magical girls and sweaty, hairy, and manly and Professional Businesswoman™.

My manhood is sort of... The same thing, but now a man. It's also soft and sweet and brotherly. It's also tough and loud and knightly. It's feminine and masculine. It's cute magical boys and sweaty, hairy, and womanly and Starving Artist™.

Both are the same sort of shifting experiences and presentations. But they feel uniquely different, I can tell when I'm a man or a woman or both, regardless of the presentation.

And if I were in a relationship, what then? I was a boyfriend in both my relationships. I never got to explore being a boygirlfriend because I was still new to accepting being a girl alongside being a boy. I know I'd definitely be a malewife, though, even if male "couldn't" be used for me (why not, let everyone do everything forever). A husbandwife? Spouse is obvious, of course. I don't know about girlfriend. Maybe? Only if you correct people in calling me he/him.

When it comes to pronouns, I don't like she/her. Obviously in regards to me using them. I'm he/him in a man way and a woman way. Not to mention my neopronouns, which aren't really "gendered" for me.

Recently I've been feeling womanly. I still want all my usual things, I just feel like a woman? A woman with a man's name, masculine pronouns and words, one of the guys. Yet it's like...

I don't know why I'm so against being feminine and a woman. Like everyone else gets to be, but I don't. The world thinks I'm a woman, and I am a woman in some convoluted way. I don't know. I want to be a woman in a man way and a man in a man way and a man in a woman way? I'm done trying to explain this. I've been trying to figure out this post for, like, a week.
