Game progress: august 2025
It’s the 20th! Which means… Monthly Update time!
Progress has been a bit on the shy side this month. Real-life kept me busy with a lot of things, but to be fair, those also gave me a good boost of energy. I can’t wait for September and that sweet “back-to-school motivation rush.”
Chapter 1 coding is moving along (1700 lines of code so far!). I know exactly what I want to happen in this chapter, but I’ll admit I’m starting to get lost in the branches of choices. I looked for a more visual way to map out branching paths and came across Twine (https://ludowoods.itch.io/twine-to-renpy-tool)
Confession: I had no clue how it worked and didn’t really take the time to dive into it properly… but I can already feel it’s going to be essential, otherwise I’ll get hopelessly lost in my own code.
As for this Tumblr, I’m still figuring out how to introduce the two protagonists, Matt and Jake, without giving too much away (spoilers, you know). Should I post little story/RP snippets? Sketches or comics? Maybe a Q&A where I answer in character? Still torn, but if you’ve got a preference or ideas, let me know! See you on the road

It's august...
...And Art Fight has officially come to an end! What. a. year! Here are my two penultimate attacks:

The plan now? A little rest, but above all, getting back to Trunkload. I'm still very hesitant about my drawing style, but Art Fight has reassured me about one thing: I'm improving year after year, and I'm not far from having a consistent drawing style!

If it's not too spoilery, could you tell us more about the timeline change dev? - 🦭
Of course, thank you for your interest
The 80s have a special place in my heart. I didn’t live through them myself, but my parents passed down so many references from that era: music, films, books, anecdotes, and more. I’ve always wanted to share that love in my game. But over time, I ran into a few concerns:

1) Technology Writing about a time I didn’t experience firsthand means I’m constantly second-guessing whether certain objects existed, or whether people actually said certain phrases back then. Some scenes I’ve written also make more sense a few years later, timeline-wise.
2) Pop culture references

To make sure the media I reference will have actually come out by the time the story takes place, I figured it was safer to push the timeline forward into the early 90s.
3) Aesthetics

Early 90s feels like a nice middle ground between 80s new wave and 90s grunge. That’s a purely personal preference, but it’s what I love and I want to share. Hope this answers your question

Game progress: july 2025

Yeah, not my most productive month. I continued coding at the end of June and then in July: art fight.
I regained my confidence in my art even though I'm still thinking about the graphic style I'm going to use for Trunkload.
I'm also hesitating to change the period in which the game is set: originally it was at the end of the '80s, but I think for timeline reasons I'm tempted to move it forward to the early '90s. It's a detail, but I'm thinking about it.
Finally, we agree that the majority of Murdersim fans have played YKMET? I played it for several hours and took a few notes. Gatobob is full of ideas for these murdersims (tokens with the walkthough integrated? Genius! The screenshot gallery? Nice, but the limit of 100 photos is frustrating). How about you? What did you think?

Sorry, but it's July...
...And again July rhymes with Art fight! Second week and

The pace has slowed down a bit (“life's ups and downs”). I'm happy to have been able to make my first fanart for Kactiikitty's OLIE. And another attack for Beetlesinthebark. I can only recommend that you check out the work of these two people! See you next week!

Sorry, but it's July...
...And July rhymes with Art fight! So this month all my drawing efforts go to the other art fighters! Here's my first week of attack:

I'm experimenting with different styles. I'm not quite sure which style I'll use for Trunkload yet, so I'll give myself a month to think about it. Here's my profile if you want me to attack you: https://artfight.net/~Granulait
Happy Art fight to those who participate!

Game progress: june 2025
It’s officially been a month since I started working on Trunkload, and I'm still having so much fun with it!
The project hasn’t lost any of its shine for me and I feel like I’m finding my rhythm. Things are clicking into place, ideas are flowing, and I’m genuinely proud of what’s taking shape.
There’s still a lot to do, but seeing it come to life little by little is incredibly rewarding. Writing: I’ve been focusing all my energy on Chapter 1 lately. It’s currently made up of 9 distinct scenes—5 of them are fully written, while the remaining 3 are currently being written, and the last has yet to be started. I've also planned three possible premature endings (including a hidden one)...
Coding: Okay, maybe setting a one-month deadline to code all of Chapter 1 was a bit... ambitious. Thing is, I keep adding new layers, little moments, and ultra-specific triggers—and naturally, that takes time. That said, I’m so proud of how it’s shaping up, and I genuinely can’t wait for you to experience it all.
Art: Drawing isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I’ve admittedly pushed that part aside for now.... But with ArtFight coming up in July, I’m hoping to practice more and step up my game!
Sound: We’re still working on the soundtrack with Opusblame. I shared a WIP track a couple days ago. Let us know what you think (does it feel 80s enough?)
Goals for the July update:
Finish writing Chapter 1
Hopefully finish coding it too (?)
And keep sharing dev content regularly on here.
See you on the road.
