Okay, I have to throw this out there because I’m absolutely losing my mind. In Disney Mirrorverse, Ian Lightfoot, Merida Dunbroch, and Violet Parr are all Stellar Guardians gathered by Sorcerer Mickey to protect the Stellar Mirror and defend the Mirrorverse from dark forces. I'm not making this up! I swear—and it kills me that hardly anyone talks/knows about it! 😭 This is literally why I love this game—it gives you the kind of adventure team-up energy you were just talking about!

Honestly, this concept has so much potential for character interactions and epic team dynamics that it should have been a full-on series. Like, imagine the banter. Imagine the bonding. I need it animated yesterday! 😭

OMG!! In Disney Mirrorverse, Wall-E helped Ian collect and examine the Chromastones during the Chromastorm Crisis event! Plus, I headcanon that Wall-E is Ian’s little buddy and they bond over being shy, lacking confidence, and secretly crushing on badass women.

Here's a question: what other Pixar characters would you like the Lightfoot brothers to interact with?

Oh my gosh, I love everything about this! You’re seriously cooking here! I’ve been shipping Ian and Merida for three years now, and this whole setup feels like fanfic gold! My friend showed this post to me and I’ve been dying to reblog it ever since.

The two ideas you came up with for how they could meet are absolutely inspired! Will-o’-the-wisps as the magical bridge between worlds is such a nice touch. 😩👌 And Barley as Ian and Merida's number-one shipper is in my headcanon! He’s 100% planning his brother’s wedding alongside Elinor.

I can totally see him hitting it off with Merida, Fergus, and the triplets—he’s bringing them snacks, wrestling matches, swordplay, 80s metal, and chaotic big-brother energy.

Will-o'-the-wisps are mythical and magical, maybe a trail of them lead Ian and Barley to Merida's time and place (or Merida follows the wisps into modern New Mushroomton and Guinevere the second). They meet up, a friendship starts up. Merida meets a wizard, and Ian meets a warrior princess.

Oh my goodness, I love this so much—thank you! The aesthetic pictures you chose are beautiful, and the quotes are absolutely perfect! "Beauty attracts the eye, but personality captures the heart" floored me—it fits them so well! I might use it somewhere for them in the future. And "Black is the color of my true love’s hair." I recognized it instantly—it’s from a song I associate with them, and it’s actually the slogan for my Snow White x Gaston ask blog. Then you hit me with: “True, that he's no Prince Charming, but there's something in him that I simply didn't see.” That one put me over the top. “Something There” is one of my favorite BATB songs, and I have headcanons tied to it because the lyrics absolutely apply to them.

But then Gaston appeared, and he stopped the huntsman before I even had time to breathe. I was so frightened, but also... relieved. He looked like a hero, standing so tall and strong. I’ll admit, I was quite swept up at first.

But the more time I spent with him, the more I saw things that troubled me. He was impatient at times, and not always nice to others. I didn’t want to fall in love with someone who simply played the part—I wanted someone who was the part."

Gaston: (chuckling, then softening as he looks at her) "When I first saw her, I thought she was the most gorgeous woman I’d ever laid eyes on. Those rosy cheeks, the way she glanced down when I caught her eye… it charmed me right down to the bone. I figured she’d make the perfect wife—so sweet and gentle. A dream homemaker, too!"

(Gaston leans in with a sly grin, his voice lowering playfully) "And let’s be honest—between her looks and mine, we’d breed some very fine children hehe~"

Snow White: (her gaze softened, eyes aglow with tender fondness) "I didn’t fall in love with Gaston because he was handsome—though he certainly is. I fell in love when I looked past the man everyone sees… and found someone soft underneath. There was a boyishness in him, something almost shy and tender, buried under all that brutishness.

He acted like he had all the answers, but when he spoke about family, or leaned in to listen just a bit too closely… I saw someone who wanted to be loved, not just admired. And when I saw how much he needed kindness—not just from the world, but from me—I think part of my heart reached out before I even realized it."

Gaston: (his eyes lingering on her as she speaks, heart thudding at every word) "You saw that in me?" (voice low, almost in awe)

Without another moment’s hesitation, he scoops her up into his arms.

Snow White: (squealing in surprise, a soft laugh slipping out as her hands fly to his shoulders) "Gaston!"

He kisses her fully passionate and tender, like he’s sealing a promise in the curve of her lips.

Gaston: (pulling back just enough to look her in the eyes) "I spent half my life thinking I was already the man everyone wanted. But you—you saw what I didn’t. That part of me even I tried to ignore. And somehow… you made me proud of it.

You didn’t just fall in love with who I was. You believed in the man I could be. That’s why I’ll spend the rest of my life proving you were right."

Snow White: (caressing his cheek gently, her thumb brushing just beneath his eye) "And I’ll spend mine reminding you why I believed in you."

Their foreheads press together, eyes closed. And in that quiet moment, nothing else mattered but the love they chose to grow together.

Scene: Snow White and Gaston are seated by the fireplace in their cozy cottage, the crackling fire casting a warm glow around them. Snow White is seated gracefully on a cushioned chair, her hands delicately folded in her lap, while Gaston lounges in his sturdy armchair adorned with antler carvings, looking self-assured as always. Snow White reads the question aloud, her voice soft and thoughtful.

Snow White: (smiling gently, her cheeks lightly flushed) "Oh, my. What a sweet question! Gaston, shall I go first, or would you like the honor?"

Gaston: (grinning confidently, leaning forward with his hands on his knees) "Ladies first, of course. I'll let you tell them all about how irresistible I am."

Snow White: (giggling softly) "Well, to be honest, at first, I wasn’t sure what to make of you. Your arrogance, your rudeness, and, oh dear, your vanity—it was all rather overwhelming. But... beneath all of that, I began to see something different. In many ways, Gaston is like a big child—full of energy, enthusiasm, and maybe a little messy. But there’s also a softness and gentleness in him that truly surprised me."

Gaston: (raising an eyebrow, clearly intrigued) "Aren't I though? I’m just full of surprises~"

Snow White: (smiling warmly) "Oh, yes. I saw it in the way you were so protective of those you cared about and your ability to provide for others. I came to appreciate your simple joys and the life you wanted to build—a life centered on family. What truly endeared you to me, Gaston, was your desire to have children, to build a family of your own. A man who dreams of such a thing couldn’t possibly be all bad." (her expression softens, her voice growing more tender) "And then, as I got to know you, I began to see the changes in you. You grew more patient, more understanding. You respected my boundaries, and through your actions, you showed me the man you were striving to become. That, Gaston, is what I see in you—a man who is learning, growing, and loving. A man with a big heart~"

Gaston: (sitting up straighter, his expression shifting from pride to a rare moment of vulnerability, a faint blush spreading across his face) "Big heart, huh? Wow, Snow, you’re making me sound better than I already thought I was. Guess it’s my turn to talk about you now."

Snow White: (smiling encouragingly) "Take your time, darling. I’m listening."

Gaston: (clearing his throat) "So, what do I see in Snow White? Well, besides her beauty—because let’s face it, she is the fairest of them all—at first, I saw her as the perfect match for me. I’ll admit, at first, she had everything I thought I wanted in a wife: grace, charm, someone who could keep house, offer good genes, and raise children who’d keep the Gaston family line strong." (pausing, his tone softens slightly) "But then something happened that I didn’t expect. Snow White is... stubborn. In the best way. When I declared my intention to marry her, she didn’t fall into my arms like every other girl. She gently but firmly told me she’d only marry for true love. That stubborn streak of hers—it frustrated me at first. But I realized it wasn’t stubbornness at all; it was conviction. And as a man with my own convictions, I respected that."

Snow White: (blushing slightly, with a gentle smile) "You did?"

Gaston: (nodding thoughtfully) "I did. I’ve known a woman with her own mind before—Belle. But back then, I didn’t appreciate that about her. I was too focused on what I wanted, on my own greatness. With you, honey, it was different. I thought I’d simply have to court you until you gave in. But when you turned me down, it didn’t feel like rejection. It felt like a challenge—a chance to prove myself worthy of you. And somewhere along the way, I stopped seeing you as a prize to win and started seeing you as… well, you."

Snow White: (her voice soft, touched) "Oh, Gaston…"

Gaston: (his expression softens further as he continues) "It was your kindness that got to me first. The way you treat everyone you meet with such patience and tenderness—it’s a 'womanly' quality I never thought I’d value before. But now? It’s one of the things I admire most about you. I’ll admit, it made me pause and think—and LeFou says thinking is a dangerous pastime for me. But then there’s the way you connect with everything around you. I remember taking you to the forest, hoping to impress you with my hunting skills, but instead, I ended up watching you calm a wild deer with nothing but your presence. In that moment, I wasn’t thinking about being the best or the strongest. I was just… in awe."

Snow White: (tearing up slightly, her voice soft) "Oh Gaston, that’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever said."

Gaston: (grinning, though his voice carries a hint of emotion) "Don’t get used to it. I have a reputation to uphold, you know."

Snow White: (laughing softly) "Thank you for sharing, Gaston. And thank you, dear friend, for such a thoughtful question. It’s always a joy to reflect on what makes our connection so special."

I genuinely love the idea of a friendship between Gaston and Rapunzel. She knows how to navigate around self-absorbed people, and that gives her a natural edge in dealing with someone like him. And yeah, giving Gaston a softer rewrite definitely lets him vibe in ways canon never allowed. But the price of that rewrite almost always seems to be dumbing him down.

Here, let me show you what I mean—I've got screenshots from Disney Mirrorverse, specifically Act 2 chapters 3 and 6. Some are a bit out of order, but all are of Gaston and Rapunzel’s interactions.

I legitimately laughed when he referred to Sulley as “Big Blue Monster” and told him to lower his hair so they could climb it—while standing right next to the person he was describing. The lack of filter is hilarious, but it only reinforces how much his characterization got flattened into pure comic relief. And props to Rapunzel for being the one person who noticed how unusually quiet Gaston was being—especially since he actually slipped away to go join the dark alliance because it was gnawing at him that he wasn’t invited.

When I first saw these chapters, I was honestly excited to see Gaston. I had already read the manga and flipped through the art book beforehand, and they portrayed him as this feral, beastly figure that gave him major Miguel O’Hara vibes. But I was pretty disappointed to find that even the other villains considered him too dumb and egotistical to join their alliance. That felt really unfair, especially since villains like Cruella and the Evil Queen—who’s the literal embodiment of narcissism—and even Oogie Boogie, who’s comical in his own right, were allowed in.

It's especially frustrating when you consider this version of Gaston is supposed to be more feral—his hunting and tracking abilities are enhanced by Stellar Magic! That should've made him an asset, not a liability!

It really felt like they took one aspect of Gaston's personality (his ego) and made it his ENTIRE personality. And that’s saying a lot for a guy who’s already supposed to be a narcissist.

I did like some of Gaston and Rapunzel’s interactions, don’t get me wrong. There were moments of genuine charm and banter. But by the final chapter, it honestly felt like Rapunzel had been reduced to Gaston’s older sister/babysitter, and that dynamic kind of cheapened the bond for me.

On a side note: In Lego Disney Princess: The Castle Quest, I found it kinda hilarious that Rapunzel was ready to throw down and pummel Gaston's ass for blocking out the sun—to the point that both Ariel and Moana had to hold her back. 😂

How the actual Hell did Dreamlight Valley create a convincing friendship between these two? I mean granted, DLV!Gaston is a lot softer than his original canon counterpart due to the unique circumstances of his existence plus what he's been through, but he's still one of the last people I would expect Rapunzel to have any sort of positive bond with, yet she's pretty consistently in his corner and he genuinely seems appreciative and always willing to help her if needed - in his own egotistical way. Maybe living with such a narcissistic "mother" gave Rapunzel a high tolerance for egotism, idk, but their dynamic is bizarrely adorable and indicative of just how well Dreamlight Valley's writers depict the Disney character crossovers.

I feel like the way Gaston reacts to the mirror—going from genuine fear to instant opportunistic manipulation—is such a perfect example of his social intelligence. He reads the room faster than anyone else in the village and knows exactly how to weaponize public perception! That scene alone proves he’s thinking several moves ahead, not just swinging his fists and puffing his chest.

Also... YES to his flair for the dramatic!! I love your headcanon so much! His mom reading him Macbeth? That’s so cute! 🥺 I love it!

It totally tracks with his theatrical line deliveries and over-the-top confidence. He’s not just a hunter; he’s a performer. I like to play with that angle too sometimes, especially in my "crackier" writing. He’s absolutely self-aware enough to know how to ham it up for a crowd (especially Snow White), which makes the idea of him being stage actor even better!

Oh, I’m right there with you on the dumbification thing; it’s just not my vibe either. I do write Gaston in a lighter, more comedic tone sometimes (especially on my Snow White x Gaston blog—it gets a little cracky over there), but never in a way that makes him dumb. There’s a difference between playful and brainless, and I think he works best when the charm’s dialed up without flattening his character. I'm tired of seeing Gaston portrayed in some Disney media and fanfiction/fan art as stupid and a socially unaware jock/himbo. He's much more nuanced, and his intelligence and social acumen are central to what makes him both charming and threatening. He’s not just brawn—he’s perceptive, calculating, and knows exactly how to manipulate social dynamics to stay adored and influential. Reducing him to a clueless himbo erases the complexity of a character who’s actually quite cunning in how he navigates people’s admiration and uses it to his advantage.

I get that people want to lighten him up sometimes, and I do too in certain contexts—but I always keep a finger on the pulse of who Gaston really is. Whether I’m writing him in something cracky or romantic, I never let go of that underlying awareness. He’s funny, yes. But not dumb.

That's what makes him such a fascinating character to write about/watch.

That said… this gag? Top-tier. It lives rent-free in my brain too. ^^
