Begin realistic, Malleus is a poorly written character, there were so many ways to use the lore from chapter 7 (or well, Lilia's past and how Malleus was born) but it was very wasted, plus he is just left as an even flatter character by just doing it Yuu's "love interest", which bothers me because I LOVE the character of Malleus and Maleficent (this was written with a translator)

I HATE the female Yuus/ocs(?), every fanart or story that has to do with them is always something sexualized!, no art that I can find of any character that doesn't have more...breasts...than a face!, also yes They are shipped with some character, they practically deform the entire personality of the character! Also, the majority who write stories about female yuu x character are usually homophobic, I'm just trying to look for something "character x male reader" normally they always put that tag, EVEN IF THEY ARE WITH FEMALE PRONOUNS

In short, they are people who always want attention on themselves, they sexualize their characters as much as possible, they deform everything to be the center of attention and they are female.

Okay, so I wanted to start by saying I ABSOLUTELY understand you, anon. The sexualization of female Yuus—especially the ones who are canonically sixteen—is definitely a bit odd. However, I definitely do know quite a few fem!yuus that don't write like this. And in my opinion, not all fem!yuus or yuuships are bad. For example, there's @/crystallizsch with their yuu, yuusha tala. And there's probably others, should you choose to search. It's really all about what you look for :D

I'm personally more of an Azul enjoyer, but as a fellow rare pair fan, I absolutely get where you're coming from. And Silidia seems like a really interesting pairing! Two introverted people, and yet their perception on others is completely different, with Silver viewing others in a much more positive light than Idia.

While I absolutely understand your plight, if you haven't written or drawn anything for them yet, you might want to try! I used to feel the same way about a rarepair of mine, actually. Specifically, how it felt like all the authors for that ship clearly liked one character more. And I thought no one out of even the very few people who wrote for it would be interested in seeing anything I had to share, because 1. I wasn't confident in my own writing abilities (partially due to my age and lack of experience writing) and 2. The particular ideas I had were quite unpopular, not only rarepair centered but also favoring the character who most fans didn't favor.

But then, I was met with the pleasant surprise of people actually giving me a chance! People read my fics, and commented on them telling me how much they liked it! It was kind of crazy in a good way.

So yeah, if you haven't already, you might want to give making your own stuff a chance. You might even end up inspiring others and getting them into your ship!

But hey, not everyone likes writing or drawing, and if you already make stuff for your ship, this whole ramble was just a load of hot air. So take a complimentary Silidia drabble (below the cut) and see if my writing's even good enough for me to be listened to.

Honestly, yeah. I get that he's feminine in appearance, but fanart—and (as a fanfic writer myself), fanfic—frequently is just clearly fetishizing him. I especially notice it in fics and comics because of his personality. They make him so soft, so harmless, that it's insane. A large part of Epel's personality is his rowdiness, so stripping it away to make him a mere victim of Vil just feels... Disingenuous. Like they like the femininity rather than the character.

...I, don't know, actually. On one hand Floyd (and Jade of course) are both displayed to be taller and more athletic, but on the other, Floyd himself is literally the one to mention Azul's true strength, saying that—despite his lackluster athletic reflexes and lack of agility or skill with a broom—he is incredibly strong. Additionally, he's mentioned to be over twice Jade and Floyd's size.

Does anyone have any input here? I don't really know what to think.

I don't understand this fandom's need to make Yan! dabbles and fics of the characters. Out of all the the "dere" tropes, Yandere is the one I hate the most because of how wildly OOC they make the characters to fit the Yandere trope. That and Yan is a very manipulative trope in general and it rubs me the wrong way to see some of these characters reduced to "I really love the (reader/Yuu) so much that I'm going to kidnap them and kill everyone around them so they'll be only mine." or the writing making the reader/Yuu so dense as to not realize what is happening is also just as frustrating.

It sucks cause I find a lotta comfort in some of these guys and they get reduced to a ridiculous Yandere trope because some people find it hot, when it's really not. And I also understand dark writing like that, but maybe not towards a character I really like and enjoy.

What do people even see in that??? Yes, yes, I know, it can be horror. But like- Romanticized kidnapping, stalking, and more??? And in the main character tags??? Why do I have to see this??? Perhaps I should use anon for this, but I post most of my "hot takes" anyways lol... I don't like Leona x Jamil. Can I understand why people are into it and their potential dynamic? Yes! However not only is Jamil 17 and Leona in his 20s (this is a gripe I have with a lot of ships with him that aren't third years or older), but also I don't think it's very healthy considering how Jamil acted in Chapter 6 where he essentially automatically placed Leona's life as more valuable than his own due to his upbringing. That's not healthy, and I really think shippers should at least examine that? But yeah, that's just my opinion ofc

...Yeah. First of all, not everything has to be a ship: an interesting dynamic can be explored platonically. I understand portraying a toxic relationship, but first of all: Literally almost NO ONE writing this relationship is portraying it as toxic, and second of all: Like you said, 17 x 20. People say it's not that big of a deal but like... would a high schooler date a Junior in College? Or would that not be considered very messed up and likely a red flag?

Plus, like you said, Jamil's been in the position of servant. The way he treats Leona is super unhealthy, and Leona does push back against it. Which is good, he really should... but Jamil's mindset is still a TERRIBLE one to have for a "potential partner" and it'll likely take a very long time for it to wear off.

I have a hot take. I'm actually 100% tired of seeing the TWST rp blogs clog up the tags of the characters. Like I'm happy for you guys and all, but you clog up nearly EVERY twst related tag and it gets absolutely frustrating. I love to see the art and the writing from this fandom, but I have to scroll past dozens of RP posts just to see it, it make it not worth even going into the tag. It takes the fun out of the content for people.

To be honest, yeah. Personally, I'd recommend blocking the twst rp tag because it's what I do, but seriously. If you constantly use the main tags, it gets really, really annoying.

For example, I used to scroll through the tags for Azul content, but nowadays, it's so clogged up with rp content I don't even bother. And with fanfic and fanart, it's different, in my opinion. First off all—there are more people who enjoy it, let's face it. However-

The quantity is an issue. No one makes five or six fics in a night. No one makes five or six artworks, or edits, in a night. But rp posts? It's fairly easy to make that many.

Listen, like another blog said once, make rp posts all you want, but you really, really don't need to put all of them in the main tag.

I agree that people with male yuu x chara do get harassed but that's less because of the prominent existence of female yuus and just homophobia. Because if people weren't homophobic even if they had their own female yuus then other people having male yuus would not be a problem. (The former framing inadvertently implies that the reason is some kind of reverse-sexism or misandry which is inaccurate and also not even a thing. Even if that probably wasn't the intention).

Also agree that something being normalized doesn't mean it's not a bad thing that should be called out, I just wanted to explain the point of it and why it happens + how the problem isn't that Yuu is being treated like a self insert (because they really are intended to serve as one)

The way I phrased it in the previous ask left what I said open to being misconstrued. When I said the "romantic fanservice is intentional" part I wasn't trying to defend people who sexualize underage characters, I am personally really against proshipping and the adjacent. I mostly meant that voicelines for most characters are usually phrased ambiguously enough to invite yumes to project romantic scenarios with the characters and they intended for it to be that way. A lot of us players/fans of the game are teens ourselves and as previously mentioned romance and fanservice itself isn't inherently sexual in nature, so I don't think this is proof that pedophilia is OK and encouraged by the game

Canon TWST (probably because Disney still supervises it) is sexless and doesn't sexualize any of its predominantly underaged student cast despite its creator's track record and trends among fans, so sexualizing underaged characters cannot be excused in any way. But once again sexual fanservice isn't inherently inclusive of romantic fanservice and it's undeniable that twst does have it even if it doesn't have sexual fanservice

Tried to limit the verbose overexplaining since I get reading mountains of text over a simple twst opinion is annoying. I'm sorry if this came off as dismissive or just nitpicky, I just think that getting the root of why things happen right is equally important to getting the claim of its individual manifestations right (because if its inaccurate even though you could be right about this specific instance you could get many other things wrong)

like it isn't just that i hate the characters (i do) but there's a point at which you have to step back and realize that you're obsessed with a character who attempted ethnic cleansing and is based on a sex offender/a human trafficker/a colonizer who tried to enslave someone.

i'm sorry but there's 22 characters in the main cast plus some for staff, grim, and any normal event characters, can't you just choose one of them to be obsessed over instead of the characters who would be in jail if they were real?

and i get that twst is dark, it's a game that explores themes of being morally gray (since it is about villains), but i really don't think the actions of even the overblotters compare to what rollo, fellow, and henrik did. you can't compare a 17-year-old who was strict and almost tyrannical with his dorm due to family trauma to a 50+ year-old who tried to enslave the prince of a marginalized group just because he didn't like the group. you can't compare a 17-year-old who scammed people because he wanted power to prove the people who traumatized him into thinking he was useless and couldn't do anything right to a probably 27-33-year-old who doesn't have very much magic and was denied a lot of opportunities and decided that fucking HUMAN TRAFFICKING was the best course of action. you can't compare an 18-year-old who wanted to destroy the world that had hurt him and rebuild it so he and the brother he lost could finally have a life that wasn't predetermined and be appreciated for his skills to an 18-year-old who lost his brother and just started absolutely hating magic and everything associated with it, thus attempting ethnic cleansing and generally acting very bigoted. you cannot compare these teens, who have very good EXPLANATIONS (not excuses) for their wrongdoings to these (mostly) adults who commit literal crimes for either no reason or reasons that don't really provide a good explanation.

think of it this way, would you support someone in real life who tried to commit ethnic cleansing and was extremely bigoted because he lost his brother? would you support a king who tried to enslave an unborn baby prince from a kingdom he's at odds with and try to colonize their land and people just because he didn't like them in real life? would you support a human trafficker who did it because he "didn't have anything else to turn to" (he did though, just become an accountant or some shit) in real life?

if you answered no to these questions, yet still like/simp for/etc rollo, fellow, or henrik, you probably have a "fiction doesn't affect reality" mindset. that, if you didn't know, is mostly proshipper logic, which loops back to my main point.

anyway, all of this is not to say that all rollo, fellow, or henrik likers are the absolute scum of the earth. you can get attached to characters for a multitude of reasons, and those people could have gotten attached to those characters due to trauma. if someone is traumatized and latches onto any of these characters, i do not truly blame them. sometimes, latching onto a character is someone's only option for coping (this is not me supporting the proship for coping reasons is good rhetoric, nor is it me saying these people are absolutely innocent victims. i have latched onto characters who are bad people in the past in the worst times of my life, and i am not proud of it. i am understanding people here, not excusing people.).

but, as a rule of thumb, if you like/simp for/support/whatever else any of these characters, and for the fact of the matter, any character like them, please take a step back. look at what you're doing and saying. think about the reasons you're doing this stuff, and how good it really is. then, get help. no matter what the reason is for your enjoyment of that character (besides stuff like "i just think theyre pretty" or not knowing about their actions) you do need help in some form. after, distance yourself from the character. don't allow yourself to fall back into that pattern again. finally, on any social medias you mentioned them on, state you don't enjoy that character anymore, maybe include details on why if you're comfortable doing so, and remove them from your social media.

in conclusion, since this became much, much longer than i imagined, if someone likes rollo, fellow, or henrik, they need to take a step back and seek help. there is obviously something mentally wrong with them.

Not gonna lie, the way people demonize the Leech twins like they're Satan Yandereson while woobifying these fuckers always baffled me.

Because the medium of the game itself actively encourages people self-inserting through Yuu. These types pf gacha games literally thrive off fanservice (fanservice isnt a necessarily sexual thing btw it can be stuff like characters having a cameo or striking an avengers assemble type pose). It's why its so easy to give them a stand-in in the mangas and novels. They have some mentioned consistent traits like being good at playing wind instruments + being supposedly blunt but that's barely a fully fledged character more like a concept. For the sake of ease of self-inserting that's also why Yuu is sadly barely relevant in the story these days + have super lazy dialogue options now. Their traits barely factor into the story in meaningful ways anymore

A lot of Yuu ships really are just not game yuu but whoever drew/wrote it shipping the character with themselves. So yeah not a surprise that their Yuu ships are flat (sometimes they also specify its just xreader or self-insert in general not Yuu but people will assume it's Yuu at first glance anyway)

So I don't see the point in complaining that "people are ignoring Yuu's personality" when that's more the game's fault than random fans' fault

As for wanting to see more male yuus around... as mentioned Yuu really is intended to be sort of a vessel of projection for fans. And as game in the joisemuke genre its expected most fans will be female, hence the characters they create to represent themselves will also be predominantly female. In the nicest way possible its really just a matter of seeing the player character stuff you want to see yourself, more male yuu or interesting yuu stuff will only exist once other fans finally make them. Yuu content doesn't just randomly generate into existence one day out of thin air

There is also the matter of homophobia in the yume community which sucks and is another factor why most player ships are het. So male yuu representation in the romantic context would matter

^but outside of this shipping purposes I literally never see anyone see Yuu as a girl by default. They're either faceless or a guy in JP fanart (this is when people are trying to draw the most objective game yuu, of course it's different for personal yuu stand-in OCs) This reflects the androcentric view many people have of man as the active protagonist by default while women can only do sappy emotional stuff like romance (also just heteronormative bias)

I've also never really seen a girlboss yuu the way you described it yet I see passive damsel Yuu for the sake of making the romantic fanservice on the dude shine more often

TLDR: Yuu really is meant to be a self-insert and the game is very intentional with the romantic fanservice it drops, and since most fans are women it makes sense that most self-inserts through Yuu are also female characters. These female characters are seemingly dull and personalityless because most fans are not trying to be clever writers, just using that OC as a vehicle to show the canon character of interest in romantic situations. If people want more diversity in existing Yuus they should put their ideas of male and etc. Yuus out there then to also inspire other people making OCs instead of assuming the fandom will generate it on its own like a factory

This got way too long but I basically just wanted to reply on why I think the argument of the previous asker was kind of focusing on the wrong things + ignoring the reasons why things happen through assuming it's just individual people being shallow and stupid for no reason. This is not to say personal yuu fanart or fic can never be criticized or disliked anymore, I think there is a problem of a lot of them being very weird with underage characters. But yeah as mentioned it's kinda just inevitable given the game genre + the creator (who was basically known idol to shotacons) being a huge part of marketing. Ok this is all for real now
