Selyse Florent Baratheon as a character is just fascinating to me. She’s like 6’5”, she’s a religious zealot AND a late-in-life convert to a foreign religion, in fact she’s very close with the spooky foreign priestess who’s having sex with her husband, she’s severe and her husband is nearly ascetic but she has lots of jewelry and finery, she’s deeply insecure about her appearance, HER SISTER FUCKED THE KING ON HER WEDDING DAY, there’s a non-zero chance she’s going to sacrifice her only child to a fire demon god for like,, basic scouting information, she’s this very cold and prissy wealthy woman unhappy in her marriage— and yet what passion, what fire burns beneath…!

I love coming up with modern headcanons for the asoiaf characters but when it comes to melisandre I can't think of anything that would be funnier than just leaving her as she is

like imagine this strange redhead woman who only wears red and has red contacts just... existing in the modern world. imagine her buying toilet paper at the market. insane. absolutely bonkers. that woman should NOT be at the club she was born to misinterpret prophecies in a fantasy world.

she sometimes shows up at school events with shireen baratheon and/or devan seaworth (???) but no one is entirely sure how she is related to them or even what her name is? people just call her The Red Woman idk.

one time margaery (the school gossip, naturally) tried to figure out her whole deal by asking the kids about her. their answer? "oh that's melisandre". sure. because that answers everything. we ALL have a melisandre in our families. of course. of course.

the only time catelyn cersei and olenna are able to maintain a civil conversation during PTA meetings is when trying to understand her dynamic with the baratheon/seaworth families. olenna is convinced they're all fucking but cersei is pretty sure stannis doesn't swing that way and cat thinks davos would never get himself mixed up in that sort of situation. they've also joked that they're all part of a cult and the red woman is their leader but that's just ludicrous. satnnis works in a bank for god's sake! he just doesn't seem like the type. his wife on the other hand...

also no one is sure what she does? she claims to be some sort of environmentalist but her messaging is a little... confusing? arya once showed cat a tiktok of her making weird pyrotechnic tricks (?) while talking about... something that appears to be a metaphor for global warming? honestly it's anybody's guess. she also has a pretty strong anti-vaping stance but not because of any health risks but because they produce smoke without fire and are therefore evil. makes sense.

but she seems to be pretty chill with queer people and appears to believe in science so she's fine I guess? better than what lysa is doing with her tiktok anyway...

Our Story from Gaza: Before and After 💔

Before the war, we lived a simple and happy life in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood of Gaza City. Our home wasn't big or luxurious, but it was filled with peace, love, and warmth. We had a small garden where we planted vegetables, and a rooftop where we would sit on warm evenings, drinking tea and laughing as a family.

Our kids went to school every day dreaming of their future. We worked hard, had our family routines, dinners, birthdays, and laughter. Life wasn't perfect, but it was ours. It was full of meaning.

The Day Everything Changed

The bombing started, and we had to flee our home during the first week of the war. We left everything behind not knowing it would be the last time we would see our home standing. We first went to the Rimal neighborhood, hoping to be safer.

That's where we heard the news that shattered us: our home, the place we built with love and hard work, was destroyed. Flattened. Everything we owned, everything we saved for, was buried under rubble.

The Ongoing Struggle

Since then, we have been constantly on the move. From Rimal to Al-Zawada, then to Rafah. We have been displaced four times. Each time we carry less with us. We sleep on floors, and sometimes we stay in tents. The nights are cold, the days are burning hot. There is no electricity, no clean water, and no toilets. We wait for hours just to get a piece of bread.

We lost our jobs, our income, our safety, and our dignity. We live in constant fear of the next bomb, the next loss. We used to dream of the future. Now, we just dream of surviving the next day.

As of today, April 15, 2025, the latest satellite images of our home show that it has been completely destroyed

We are the Anas family—like many families in Gaza—ordinary people who only wanted peace, a safe home, and a chance to live in dignity. But the war has taken everything from us: our home, our land, our jobs, our dreams, our stability… even our sleep.
