I am almost late but for Pride Month here's a shitpost. There's nothing I hate more than rainbow capitalism when it comes to Pride Month especially from fucking Target. I had a complicated idea for a piece with Setheroth and Valerius showing off a scene from my book that I wanted to draw this month- then work hit like a bus so here take my shitpost instead. I just couldn't resist putting my super serious WWII OC in the abomination that is the Target Pride suit. Setheroth would hate this thing with a passion. Most of his clothes are either thrifted or military issue, he's not a person that buys things new often and would never wear something so garish. This took entirely too long for what it is. About Setheroth's sexuality below -

Setheroth is gay and he discovered this rather late. It was long after his natural life had ended and well into WWII (1942 or 1943 I think-). The 1940s were already a dangerous time to be queer and in Setheroth's case it was extremely dangerous being a British spy undercover in nazi occupied Europe. Setheroth works for a branch of the SOE dedicated to undead operatives along with Valerius, and their mission in Europe until 1944 was to join the ranks of German High Command and leak information back to the Allies as well as sabotage the nazi war effort in any way they can, usually by assassinating important nazis, freeing PoWs, uniting resistance networks, and blowing up weapons and munitions cashes. So Setheroth's position is extremely precarious, not only is he hiding the fact he is a British operative from the nazis but also that he is queer. I will explain more in a future post possibly including just how exactly Setheroth came to realize this (it wasn't just on his own) but for now this is an unserious post with unserious art. Happy Pride Month to my fellow queer people, as an aroace non-binary artist. Times are hard right now and it's more important than ever to remember Pride was a riot. Right now more than ever we all need to watch out for and support each other to fight off the fucking Fascism and other bullshit running rampant and threatening us all. Don't forget our history. How far we have come and those we lost along the way, and don't support corporations looking for rainbow points, support queer owned local businesses and online shops.

Some art of one of my other unhinged little guys- This is Vanse Strazani my historical mafia oc. If you wanna know more about him I will include info below the cut and a second version of this portrait. I really wanted to Vanse's antique stiletto knife tattoo so I ended up drawing this.

Vanse was born on the 17th of January, 1889 in Palermo Sicily. He's bisexual with strong male leanings and has resided in many places over the course of his life moving around a bunch. He's been affiliated with crime almost his entire life first with the Black Hand Society in Sicily and later the Sicilian mafia. He only briefly gets a break from his criminal lifestyle by fighting in WWI. Post WWI he branched out into bootlegging liquor, importing it into America during prohibition making a killing off the business. His profitable business ventures garner the attention of the Italian-American mafia families of New York after Vanse moves to Long Island becoming a naturalized American citizen. Soon he is picked up as an associate of the Genovese family and later becomes a made man, working his way up in rank quickly from a Solider to a Capo. He's known for being a rather unruly member of the family being hard to control and too "flashy" for the mafia's standards but his effectiveness is undoubtable. Vanse is involved in many criminal activities even well before his ties with the notorious New York mafia including, bootlegging, smuggling, murder, kidnapping, extortion, racketeering, gambling, and money laundering being the most apparent.

Vanse is very unpredictable, he appears to ooze charisma with a wolfish grin but appearances are deceiving. He quickly develops a reputation, considered to be a black sheep and a deviant in the Italian-American mafia. He cannot seem to keep himself out of trouble. He is boisterous loving to party and rub shoulders with society's elites contrary to mafia objectives of not drawing attention to oneself. He's always quietly observes people around him having a quick wit that has served him well throughout life. He is intelligent and resourceful, not above getting his hands dirty himself. He's exceedingly dangerous underneath the disarming manipulative charm and often acts impulsively to cover up more unpleasant emotions. Eventually Vanse will run afoul of the mafia in New York after pushing his luck bending the rules too far and will be forced to flee with a hit out for him placed by The Commission. Vanse spends time traveling between areas of the UK, Italy, and Sicily trying to avoid the five families of New York and hide under the noses of the mafia present in Italy and Sicily.

I might talk more about Vanse in a later post but this is the basics of what I have developed for him so far! He's one of my more fun OCs to write for.

Here's some more fun facts about Vanse:

Vanse’s favorite alcoholic drink is a gin martini with a twist or olives if they are Italian. His favorite non-alcoholic drink is fresh orange juice which was very hard to get ahold of in the 20s, reserved mostly for the rich who could afford to acquire the necessary oranges.

Vanse’s favorite fruit is blood oranges grown in Sicily.

Vanse almost exclusively drinks Italian coffee, usually Espresso.

He has a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to cakes, candied orange peels, and sweeter kinds of coffee.

Vanse is known for falling asleep in cars.

Vanse keeps around a set of rusty bolt cutters that have been used to commit numerous crimes. He uses them to intimidate and sometimes torture but it is rare.

Vanse has 2 tattoos despite the mafia not approving of them. The antique stiletto knife on the left side of his neck, and one on the right under his ear a pair of snake eyes dice.

<Sword and Tag>

This is something quick I came up with the other night for a cover for an Insta highlight. I don't normally do artwork that is not character work. This is meant to be representing a lot of the current work I am doing. A sword for fantasy elements in my work and 2 different Identification tags from WWII, the one on the right being British and the one on the left German. The British one was also the design used in WWI. These two ID tags also sort of represent the MC of my writing project since he is a British spy that infiltrates the nazi ranks during the war to pass along intelligence. It's odd but I like how it turned out. It was a nice break from character art and a short piece to work on when I haven't drawn in a while.

I always feel immensely guilty about not posting a lot of art and I wonder how many other artists feel this way.

I wanted to post a bunch and show off many of the different things I am working on but I am so slow and life is just so draining. I never have anything to put out and right now I am going through a crisis where I hate my art as it stands right now so there's definitely nothing I feel like posting.

I wanted to have all the social medias, grow my reach, have people to interact with and engage with, and eventually market my stories and stuff online but that doesn't seem feasible anymore. Quite frankly keeping up with it all is difficult and draining.

Maybe it's just not worth it?

I dunno. Just thinking out loud (metaphorically). Maybe I just have to give up on that goal. Maybe I jumped the gun too quickly.

I'm stuck in this liminal limbo of wanting to be successful online and wanting to be happy and rn the things are clashing with each other. Maybe I should delete some of my socials and stop focusing on reach and just posting where ever I feel most comfortable.

I dunno thoughts anyone?

Also it doesn't help the things I am into are REALLY niche and weird. Like historical stuff- pretty normal on the surface, WWII spies mixed with fantasy stuff definitely not normal ngl. It's also just too easy to draw in the wrong crowd drawing that stuff which is not what I want and makes me hella pissed off / uncomfortable when those people come around. I don't like them and don't condone their behavior. My interest in the WWII stuff and military history started since I was a very little kid for anyone wondering wtf why that.

< Before the Storm >

This is a landscape study I did last night! It is based on an aesthetic photo I came across and I am super happy with how it turned out.

It is not perfect but I am not going for realism, I am just trying to make it look like something lol. I am also delving into making my own custom brushes to use in Procreate for landscapes! I used several of my own grass and weeds brushes on this piece and I plan on later adapting them for use in Clipstudio Paint.

I don't usually draw backgrounds at all, they are the bane of my existence but I am trying to be better and improve my art skills. So here's to the attempt made!
