Video
tumblr
This is a video of an early rehearsal of the  ‘Revelations’ dance showing us going through it and trying to improve our technique. As you can see in the video, I found some of the dance movements quite difficult as i was wearing the wrong clothing for contemporary dance, meaning i wasn’t able to be more flexible. My contraction was also quite weak, not showing my strength and emotion.
Next time , i know that i need to show more emotion and strength through my movement and keep focused at all times.

THE CABARET PERFORMANCE
Tuesday 19th -21st December 2017
The Cabaret Performance showcased our street dance and contemporary dance we were learning and rehearsing during the lessons.
For each performance we had large audiences ranging from a whole class of primary school children to students and parents.  It was an exciting and tiring experience!  We gained so much from performing in front of audiences and hearing feedback from them.  The lighting states really helped set the mood and made us ready to perform.
WWW: I was told that I showed power through every movement  and my facial expressions showed me having fun and enjoying each and every moment.  I didn’t forget any of the movements and was able to show the style of each dance.
EBI : I must try not to look down during performances unless it’s in the choreography and to keep my energy up throughout the whole production.
I was pleased and proud at what we were able to achieve as a group and felt happy with my performance.

Street Dance
Thursday 7th December 2017
For my lesson today ,we went through the two dance choreographies Facebook like and T-shirt.  We are becoming tighter as a group and are getting a sense of what the whole dance will be like.
WWW: brought the right clothes for street dance and my facial expressions were strong with a lot of expression.
EBI : I shouldn't walk always when the song isn't completely done and do less talking when I’m off stage as it’s easy to miss a cue.

TASK 2 SOLO Contemporary Dance
Monday 27th November 2017
The Genre of my dance is ModeRn Contemporary whereby a lot of emotion must be given through movement and facial expressions. My solo dance was very lyrical and I used the lyrics of the song to tell a story through my movement and my facial expressions. I wanted every gesture to relate to the emotion that I was I was feeling during that time whilst listening to the song.My task was to deliver passion, anger and fear to the stage .
Influential Practitioners: Martha Graham for Contraction ,Doris Humphrey for falling and recovery .
WWW: I was able to show various movements in my dance such as Contraction ,travelling and falling . My breathing was a significant piece in my dance as it enabled my performance to become more effective by breathing in slowly building my dance even more. My partner informed me that I i was in time with the music and had  good communication being able to link linking different movements together.  She could see that i was focused because  my movements were quite strong and I projected outwards. . She also added that my facial expressions were strong .
EBI: Just take time with my performance and I should just relax. My partner said i could be more flexible and i should work on my balance .

Alvin Aileys Revelation
Monday 13th November 2017
I wanted to  relate to what was happening during Ailey’s era which was the  civil rights moment for black people and how black people fought of equality and justice .
In this danceI was able to express passion and emotion and  my teacher told me that this dance can be related to anything you where feeling in that moment or what was happening in your life. I related this with my faith every reach I expressed through my arms showed me reaching for God.  There are various moments of either stretching up towards heaven or reaching to the sides as if asking for help.
WWW: I was able to relate with the song and create my own story with it still including the dance technique.  I was told that my facial expressions were excellent by my partner
EBI: Work on speed and changes of direction .

Ryan’s Street Dance
Thursday 2nd November 2017
Music: T- shirt by Migos , very upbeat and up pace song .
WWW:  The genre of the song was modern meaning we  were able to  express our feelings even more since we were familiar with the song . I really enjoyed the flexibility of the movement, and how we added Laban effort e.g. “dabbing and slashing”  .
EBI: some of the dance movements were quite difficult such as the Milly rock and I wasn't  able to get the right movement of that particular movement . Which meant I had  to practise using social media as my guide and later  practice in the corner of  the classroom .

Warm Up Recap
Monday 30th October 2017
For this lesson we had to warm up using a different practitioners techniques e.g. a practitioner we looked at was Martha Graham for contraction. For the Martha Graham techniques the song we used was “like a woman” by Aretha franklin , with the technique a lot of emotion was given meaning our contraction was powerful and strong .
Another Practitioner used was Doris Humphrey a use of falling and recovery  , using slashing movement of the arms .
WWW: I was already familiar with the practitioner meaning I was able to deliver the warm up recap to the best of my ability.
EBI: I must bring my clothes for contemporary dance , and work on my feet movements

Task 1 Dance Exam
Thursday 19th October 2017
Today, for our dance assessment we were given a task to perform a solo to two songs of our choice either street dance or contemporary style . For my exam the two songs I chose were Murder(12345) by Aurora and for my second piece i chose Jessie J ‘Do it like a dude’ . My dance routine was very lyrical where i followed each lyric of the song and created a story with it . The style of my dance was very expressive as I showed every emotion through facial expressions and movement . I also took practitioners like Martha Graham into consideration especially for my contraction at the start of my dance and the release.
I also used a lot of Dorris Humphrey’s movement of falling and recovery in my dance . I performed the Pirouette in my dance where my posture and the levels of my arms were the main focus for me .
WWW: I turned my dance into a story and I let the song have an affect on me that really brought out my emotion and facial expressions.
EBI: I shouldn't sing the song when performing my dance and i should be more careful of what i wear in my performance. I should also remove jewellery before my performance.

Street Dance
Thursday 12th October 2017
Music: Vyzex Kartle - Facebook like , bashment song , upbeat song and lot of energy must be given .
WWW: We were in a group where were given a song by vyzex Kartle called ‘Facebook like’ and together with my group we had to make up a routine .In the routine we learned about the African and Caribbean dance with Ryan our teacher helping us to polish the movement . I really enjoyed the flexibility of the dance being able to glide and use the dabbing Laban motion .
EBI: More facial expression during each of my movement , maybe expand my arms even more to express the music and give 10% energy to the dance so that it looks strong and polished.

Contemporary Dance
Monday 2nd October 2017
*Filmed assessed class.
We started to learn movements from a dance from Alvin Ailey’s ‘Revelations.’  This dance was first performed in the 1960′s around the time of the Civil Rights movement and explores themes and issues relating to the experience of African Americans at that time and earlier in history.  The section we are doing is performed to “I’ve Been Buked’ by Mahalia Jackson which is very emotive and will give us a real sense of atmosphere.
WWW: Energy was shown to each movement piece and I tried to tell a story with the movement and the dance . I elongated my arms to convey that I was reaching for hope and freedom (telling my own story with the music) gently moving my arms up to meet my waist . I had excellent balance as I didn’t wobble during the still moments.

Street Dance
Thursday 28th September 2017
Music : Beyonce - Schoolin’life , another upbeat song , a lot of energy must be given for this routine .
WWW: In street dance we learned a dance number to ‘Schoolin’life’ by Beyonce.  The dance was very energetic because it required a lot of movements such as jumping and spinning also controlling balance.  I had to use my core strength and control my arm and leg gestures in this dance. I wore the correct clothes for the style of dance and had energy especially when jumping .
EBI: Today's Dance was mostly being able to stay on time with the choreographer and trying to pick up the routine fast.  Maybe next time i should ask more questions to the choreographer to ask him to go back to the previous move since sometimes i can get lost as to where we are in the routine .

Contemporary Class
Monday 25 September 2017
Music: Stormzy - ‘First things first’, a very up beat song with a lot of aggression in which i had to use a lot of facial expression and body movement.  We learnt  a lyrical dance to  ‘No one knows me like the piano’ by Sampha, which is more of a slow and gentle song which expresses a lot of emotion.
WWW: For the first song I exaggerated my movements and my arms were a lot sharper whereas in ‘No one knows me like the piano’ my arms were more gentle, gliding softly across my shoulders. I gave energy to every movement piece and had good posture during the start and end of the dance. I performed very light movements when releasing my arms to express the more lyrical music.
EBI: Bring water as I became dehydrated during rehearsal . Make my movements more smooth and gentle ( No one knows me like piano ).
