Realistic predictions/analysis for the dynamic between Syd and Carmy for s3 and what the writers will potentially do with Claire.
Pls keep in note that my sydcarmy brain was OFF and the Film/Television production student brain was ON when I wrote this. I am trying to imagine their potential romance in the most realistic and grounded way possible don't be mad at me please I'm sensitive sjhdsajdsjdhsfafafjskdlfh okay lets get into it
Carmy is back in a high-end kitchen environment, which means toxic ocd perfectionist Carmy is back because he has yet to deconstruct that part of himself
that being said, he wants that star, not only because it'll justify the pain of gutting his dead brother's restaurant and perhaps soothe his self-loathing, but also because Sydney wants it- and Carmy wants to keep Sydney. He wants to see her get what she wants.
Carmy still has the toxic mindset that success is defined by how much you suffered for it, and how much pain you've endured. He is back in an environment where he will forever be chasing perfection that doesn't exist. He has an incessant need for control that makes him difficult to work with.
Carmen holds the staff, especially Sydney, to impossible standards of perfection
IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT CARMY IS A VERY EXTREME PERSON
HE WILL BE PLAGUED BY BLACK AND WHITE THINKING THIS ENTIRE SEASON (as opposed to the wishy-washy, one-foot-in-one-foot-out vibe we got last season)
Enter the partnership contract lol
To Carmy, the contract is a testament to his commitment to Sydney. He would have a professional and legal obligation to operate at the highest standard. You have my full focus, and I have yours. He's basically trying to correct his mistakes in s2 in the most extreme way.
The problem is that Sydney knows this means she would be legally and professionally bound to Carmen. It means she would have to subscribe to his toxic standards and warped ideas of success to uphold her end of the contract.
Sydney will be forced to reevaluate if the path to success Carmy has laid out will be worth the suffering. We saw last season that the stress literally made her vomit. She is asking herself: does it have to be like this? Is this really the only way?
Sydney will be presented with alternative opportunities because of the attention she's received from being professionally associated with Carmy.
They will become increasingly tempting as The Bear continues to bring out the worst in Carmy
Maybe Carmy catches wind of the attention Sydney has been getting, which he thinks explains why she has been stalling signing the contract.
Carmy feels rejected. Of course, he doesn't realize it's rejection that he's feeling. He confronts her from a professional angle. It devolves into a fight because he'll probably end up lashing out.
"This is what you wanted! I'm giving you what you want!"
It is, in fact, not what Sydney wants. LMFAO
Sydney, of course, wants Carmy. But she wants a version of Carmy that doesn't exist, and she's not sure he ever will.
Sydney's relationship with failure is important for her character. She initially wanted the success Carmen has.
At the end of s3 she realizes she just wants Carmy. As a friend and a creative partner (and in my most unhinged fantasies a lover :P). She wants the Carmy she gets when they're riffing off each other's ideas in his kitchen. She doesn't want the tunnel vision perfection machine version of himself when he's in his chef whites. She grows to resent that version.
s3 wraps up with their relationship on rocky terms
Best case scenario, Carmy tries to change
worst-case scenario, Sydney steps back from the bear
CLAIRE PREDICTIONS
Carmy operates at extremes. He either pursues a personal life or his professional life. In his mind, it is impossible to have both.
Claire and Sydney/The Bear are on opposite ends of the spectrum
If he commits to Claire, he can't commit to the restaurant
If he commits to Sydney/The Bear, he can't commit to Claire
Instead of trying to find balance, Carmy throws himself into Sydney/The Bear
Fak obviously observes that this makes Camry worse, and decides to talk to Claire to suggest some sort of contact between the two. He probably thinks this might keep Carmy from nosediving further. I don't have any guesses for the context of their conversation though. It could be anything. I think it would be hilarious if Fak hurts himself during dinner service and has to go to the ER and the convo unfolds that way lol.
Meanwhile, Carmy thinks he's doing the right thing by presenting his most extreme and professional self to Sydney because he thinks it's what she wants. He wants to give her his full focus.
What Sydney actually wants is fucking BALANCE. Which is exactly what Carmy NEEDS, but doesn't think is possible.
Sydney potentially walks away to find it elsewhere with someone else.
Carmy is angsty about it, obviously.
Carmy and Claire will probably reconcile, before or after his potential falling out with Sydney
If they do get back together, I don't think it's sustainable for Carmy. They both have very demanding careers, and Claire triggers trauma associated with his past. They might like each other, but they are incompatible, IMO.
I do think Sydney and Carmy will end up together eventually tho lol. Eventually, Carmy will realize that Sydney is his balance. The problem is that Carmy currently is incapable of providing Sydney balance. But if he learns that he can be that for her, he might realize that he wants her beyond professional partnership. Fingers crossed lol.

Can you do something for me, please?
I want you to reblog this if you believe that two people can be very close and physically affectionate with one another, but still have a completely nonsexual, non-romantic relationship.
Even if the two people in question are capable of being sexually or romantically attracted to one another.
Because the friendship I share with someone I consider family in a way that transcends blood has been typecast as a romantic relationship ENTIRELY too many times, and I’m beginning to get sick of it.

In order to comfort Sydney he shared a deeply intimate and personal fact about his seeking help for his brother's death. HE BARELY KNEW HER.
He told HER he didn't want to build the bear without her.
He visualized HER face to calm down from a panic attack.
Just let him love HER

Carmy: screaming bloody murder for Syd while stuck in the fridge
Sydney: looking terrified because Carmy has done exactly what he said he wouldn’t do (he’s left her alone to possibly fail)
Me, staring at the screen and smiling on my fifth rewatch: I just think they’re neat.

We all agree it’s going to be rocky between Syd and Carmy. I’m so ready for the angst and the tension . It’s going to bubble up the same as Jaine and Gregory . The same as Penelope and Colin!! YES!!! The 3 of fucking three bitch!!! Three is a lucky charm.
Here’s my only prediction.
Nat going to have a baby by the end of season three and it’s going to rock Carmy’s world. Once he sees Nat and Pete being together with the baby . He will understand partnership. This will lead to a confession of sorts .
Also, this season Carmy is very much giving Orpheus from Hadestown . More on that later .

SYDNEY KEPT IT PUSHING : CARMY'S APARTMENT
Sydney came in

Saw Carmy's apartment

Took it all in
Shrugged

Turned on the oven

Got that warm touch, to the back even though she was ALREADY out of the way but go off Carmy

Watched him take jeans out the oven

Nodded like that was normal

Then got to work like it was all normal

She's so normal about him

Thalia doesn’t keep many things in the hundreds of years she’s been alive.
But long ago, there were people, their names all but distant memories, who mattered in her 1st lifetime. It’s their things that stay hidden in her bag, reminding her of her mortal life.
A blue hoodie, worn almost threadbare. The scent of its original owner, long since leached from the fabric. But if she closes her eyes, she can almost see the blue eyes of her first and only love.
A pair of glasses. Frames cracked and crooked. A reminder of a brother she never got to truly know.
A baseball cap. It’s magic long faded, branded with a forgotten logo. Memories of a blonde girl laughing hidden deep within.
A letter. Ink fading, paper yellow. The last words of a dying friend. Words that wish her well, words that wished her well in a world they had fought side by side to save.
Thalia doesn’t keep a lot of things, but even after all this time, Luke, Jason, Annabeth, and Percy will stay with her forever. The memories of her first family to remind her why life is so beautiful.

jason: father, i pray to you. i ask you for your generosity and to assist me by granting me a single lightning bolt. i will be forever grateful for your kindness and goodness.
zeus: fine. just one though.
percy: *creates waves hundreds of feet tall, summons a hurricane, splits a glacier in half, and drowns an entire army of monsters without even hesitating*
poseidon: haha. nice.

imagine being someone at new rome university and not knowing percy is the same guy as “percy jackson, son of poseidon, two-time hero of olympus, former praetor” because the thought doesn’t even cross your mind. like… he’s percy. he’s a total frat boy. on a normal night, he walks into a party, refers to everyone as bro or dude, socializes with every living (and not-living) person in the room, makes at least 50 sarcastic comments, plays 12 rounds of beer pong, drinks way too much, and then skates around campus on his skateboard yelling “I LOVE NEW YORK” (which makes no sense, because they’re in california) until someone calls his girlfriend to come get him.
and then one day there’s an attack, and frat boy percy is all of a sudden a fighting machine. he’s yelling battle cries alongside the praetors frank zhang and hazel levesque as they lead everyone into battle. (why is he with the praetors? and why…. why in the world do the praetors seem to be following his lead?) his sword slashes through armies of monsters faster than you’ve ever seen. he’s controlling the entire river surrounding the camp, creating huge waves as tall as skyscrapers that crash down all around him, wiping out monsters and causing mass destruction to his enemies’ ranks. the sky is suddenly dark above you, ice-cold water droplets are slashing through the air, and the wind is blowing so aggressively that it’s making it hard to stand up steadily. because he’s somehow created a hurricane.
and he looks terrifying. you can feel the power radiating off of him. he’s like a god. or maybe a monster. it’s hard to tell. you’re a little scared of him, to be honest. but also in total awe, because it’s extraordinary. he’s extraordinary.
frat boy percy is not who you thought he was.

i wish percy had cried during hoo like full blown sat down and cried like idc if he did it infront of ppl but i wanted the stressfulnes of the situation to actually set in for him
bc yes hoo was very stressful for everyone involved but percy
won a war/killed and watched many of his friends die
had like 3 weeks to deal with that
woke up 8 months later with no memories and nothing but the clothes on his back and a sword to survive being attacked constantly by monsters
found a home
immediately seen as a burden and then sent on a quest from said home (cough good kid from the musical cough)
went on said quest and brought honor back to new rome all while getting his memories back (good and bad memories)
fought in a mini war
was reunited with the love of his life
loose said new home bc of someone else
went on a whole other quest
developed a fear of water/drowning
was separated again from the love of his life
fell into tartarus
got out and fought in another war
like the amount of stress he was under he not only had all this shit happen and had to deal with it as if it didn’t feel like it had happened a month ago (like the war stuff) he also had to keep up with everything that was happening and deal with what everyone else had problems with
he was so behind compared to everyone else jason had 6 (or was it 8 i forget) months to get used to the new camp and having his memories back and when he had woken up with no memories he was next to two ppl who took care of him-piper and leo had that time to get used to their new surroundings and make new memories with jason- annabeth had the same amount of time to move forward from the war and grieve - frank and hazel had that time to do the same- percy had none at most he had like a week
percy woke up on the run and never stopped moving until after everything was done he was just filled and filled with new trauma and had to re-experience old trauma he was literally living off of adrenaline if the moment he had down time he didn’t start sobbing then idk wtf he did—like when they got out of tartarus and they like laid on that hill in the sun ? mannn he’s a basketball player he shoulda been balling like damn
also the amount of unhealthy coping mechanisms that could have come out of this?? like i’ve seen hc bout percy stress eating but like if this was an adult series or like aimed for older teens- mmm im pretty sure there would’ve been some other things happening (and no i don’t mean drinking or drugs)
i want him to cry like they let steven cry at the end of steven universe
i could see him just breaking down about how unfair it was and how everytime he gets smth nice it just gets always torn away bc it does and it sucks and i hate it and i know he hates it and i know annabeth has thought about it while he was gone and i know she’s pissed about it and i know percy probably wonders if he did smth to deserve it and i know he’s angry and sad about it too but he never gets to show that and it’s so UGH i just want him to cry
