It hurts me how every time Bill tries to talk about the fact he hates being made fun of, people just make fun of him even more and he is unable to see it because he just takes them at their word.

In a camp interaction, Bill says "I'll tell you what I'm bored of. Being laughed at. Bored of being the butt of all you fool's jokes. It ain't nice. And it ain't brotherly." Yet the first thing Uncle does is say "Of course you ain't so dumb, Bill. You're just averagely dumb." which is very much a back handed compliment, playing a fool of him again. Yet Bill doesn't see it. He doesn't see it as being mean, that to him is nice.

Similarly when he talks about wanting to start a gang of his own, where Sean and Lenny laughs at him. He directly asks "are you two laughing at me?", they of course say no, but they do it in a joking matter because they are in fact making fun of him.

No one takes him seriously, and he just keeps trusting them enough to take them at their word.
