Superficial story, I suspect the writer simply doesn't understand what is class opposition. Save the world by killing more people, ha.
One of my biggest issues honestly is that they took this narrative that was so much about corporate abuse of power and institutional violence, exploitation of the weak by the mighty (literally all embodied by the suffering 47 and Lucas had experienced at the hand of Providence), and replaced it with a very personal story on a very individual basis.
Lucas as a character stood for the fight against societal problems and systemic issues. And tbh, this kind of class consciousness is very rare to find in video games and was one of the reasons I got so into the trilogy in the first place. But when Lucas got eradicated, so was the writing’s interest in engaging with the issues it had built its entire core narrative around.
In the end, the reason why 47 faces up against the Constant is because he tried to play 47 and Diana against each other, and because Providence erased 47’s memories. No mention of the Institute, the human experiments, the fact that Providence is literally responsible for creating, enslaving and killing child soldiers by the dozens, and that that is only a blip on their laundry list of destruction and suffering they caused all around the globe.
As I said, it got all very personal, away from systemic problems and towards individual ones. And while I liked the story they ended up telling, it is not what fascinated me so much about these games, and it’s not what made them so unique imho.

Fandom: Hitman
Relationship(s): Lucas Grey / 47
Rating: Explicit
Set between the Dubai and the Dartmoor missions (no spoilers).
47 is struggling with his newfound freedom. Lucas offers help and unearths some issues of his own in the process he kept buried for good reason.
47′ piercing eyes bore right into Lucas’, and there is a question in them that 47 could not ask, even if he was capable of wording it. One of his hands is braced on the armrest of the couch.
The rain seems unbearably loud all of the sudden. The siren of a police car passing by on the street far below cuts through the steady flow of water against tall windows, its flickering blue light bouncing off of 47’s sharp features for just a second, before the car is gone and they’re left with nothing but the sound of the rain in the dark again.
Lucas reaches for 47’s hand, careful, as if trying not to startle a skittish animal, and lets his fingers rest on 47’s skin, half against the back of his hand, half against his wrist.
It’s all the encouragement 47 needs.

【6/47】Fibonacci sequence
