Ven’s Log - 0002

You do not want to enrage the Lady of Pain. Trust me. I've seen it with my own eyes. After being routed by yours-truly, a lowly mage-ling attempted to cheat his way back into the Arcanum despite being declared a loser. The Lady made quick and gruesome work of him...

It reminds me how careful Smeech and I will need to be if we are going to pull off the ultimate deal...

After that was done, we were ushered into a lavish buffet provided by Shemeshka. Smeech, of course, took great advantage to stuff his shoes with some sort of food. It is the way of his people... the goblin-men.

It did, however, provide me a chance to discuss collecting my fees from the Harmonium monk, Qian. It turns out he is a worshiper of a death deity and sworn to ensure the dead remain so.

We used the conversation to allow another pair to take their meeting with Shemeshka first as to not appear too eager, but we did take the second meeting.

Even I am incapable of properly explaining what happened in that room. However, neither Smeech or myself will ever be the same. We are forever changed and I hope that it will not be the end of us.

Of course, my failure to overcome my innate ability to never lose did leave me rushing through some important reading. It turns out, an obscure clause in the Arcanum clause allowed Shemeshka to decide our wishes on our behalf. Apparently, we have a one-time "get out of death free" card.

I hope Qian will not consider it a cheat of his deity should we need to make use of it.

As we left the premises, Smeech did remember to collect another piece of our payment in the form of a crystal ball on a table. He took it back to his... hovel is not the correct term. Perhaps disguised warehouse would be best. Yes. His disguised warehouse. Anyway, he worked on the crystal ball while I perused his collection and planned.

Once we were ready, we made our way back to the game grounds to examine the first world portal. We are now able to see them, thanks to the... gifts... given us by Shemeshka.

However, as Smeech was figuring out how to travel through the portal, we were attacked by a strange young man with glowing eyes. To my surprise, Smeech's ability to fire beams of death from his eyes quickly taught the young boy a lesson. I must remember not to enrage the goblin-man in the future.

After we were able to put the poor sap out of his misery, we collected the bounty of his goods and Smeech took a trophy of his own. It was... not expected. But, he is a goblin and while I inspected the magic of the man's sword, now mine, he figured out how to travel through the portal and we traveled to the other side.

Ven’s Log - 0001

Today was a good day to be Venwaris. 

While awaiting the grand entrance of Shemeshka the knowing at her announcement, I managed to save a small goblin-man from being turned into a pin cushion by some randy cutpurses.

As is proper, the small goblin-man, Smeech, is now indebted to me eternally. He may come in handy and has already proven to be quite the unexpected joy to work with. Even if he did distract me from collecting my fees from the Harmonium after they hauled away the cutpurses. 

After the announcement of the Grand Arcanum, I took Smeech under my wing as I launched a small plan to help the would-be combatants to victory.

We made a deal with the grey dwarf Nimira and her slave to fight on their behalf in the Arcanum in exchange for their assistance in my entrepreneurial endeavors. These endeavors, including Arcanum survival guides and redistribution of tickets, netted a nice profit so I was more than happy to lose the Arcanum on her behalf. 

Of course, it is almost impossible for me to lose anything.

Immediately after entering the Arcanum, a flock of pixies became enthralled by my presence and granted me the boon of turning me into a massive reptilian monstrosity. 

I used the power of the form to distract and eliminate many combatants, giving Smeech a chance to find a better vantage to attack from. However, it was my own power which finally brought us to the victor’s circle.
