Idk if this is like appropriate use of reblog (don’t wanna commandeer someone’s else’s post) but I wanted to add on to the bag train haha. I taught sewing to like 11-13 year olds this July and we did totes too! Some did patchwork ones like the above project (great way to upgrade a basic pattern!) and others did the plain one like I showed them. After I did the basic example bag, there was extra time and extra fabric for me to make my own lined version with appliqués and an awful too-big welt pocket inside (hubris: I should have watched a tutorial bc I did NOT remember how to do it properly)

Patchwork tote bag! Love the fabrics I had. I wish I had make the bag a little bit wider and the straps a bit narrower, but it's still very cute and I love it!!

I wanted to post about this because I know many of my mutuals are avid crafters and I don't know how much attention this endeavour is getting outside of end-of-life spaces-
The Loose Ends Project matches crafters with a project that is unfinished because of death or disability. They offer help with a spectrum of textile mediums in over 80 countries. One project I find particularly lovely: “My mom was making this octopus for me. She was 67 years old when she passed away from COPD. She was hospitalized for pulmonary rehab several times and would always take it to work on while she was there and loved to talk about it with people."

(the red heart marks the last stitch made by this person's mom) Anyway, if something like this is something you'd like to be involved in, they are always looking for more crafters <3

Today for my birthday, I went to the Quilt Craft Sew Expo in Sandy, UT. I picked up a few fat quarters and took some pictures, so I hope you enjoy them!

The fact that I said this irl and was horrified that nobody understood and realized it was actually probably only a tumblr thing. The fact that I search “tumblr devil’s sacrament” and this is the first post that pops up. The fact that I immediately came to tumblr to post about the experience.
using "what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament" to mean "yeah i made an embarrassing reference but you understood it which is also embarrassing" is very funny to me

Brief Contextual Information
Erin Hanson calls her style of painting “Open Impressionism” and sees it as a a successor to previous major impressionist styles. She seems to be doing a lot of marketing of herself with this unique style, with claims on her website, through books that anthologize her work, and Instagram and YouTube posts. She claims that her style is being taught in art schools around the world, but it’s hard to determine the specifics of that claim because it’d likely be within general oil painting classes, of which the syllabi would be hard to acquire without more ínstense research.
Users on Reddit remarked enjoying her style and wishing they could learn it. Erin’s website claims the style took 20 years to develop—so it makes sense it wouldn’t be so easy to emulate. Whether Erin herself might be willing to teach it is a possibility for the future.

Was feeling pretty demotivated (first day of working summer school after a few weeks off—gotta get used to all the student interaction again)
But I had all these bananas, some of which I took from my moms house so between dinner with neighbors tonight, and dinner with my parents tomorrow, needed to have something to bring
So I just made it despite not feeling motivated. I did it very chaotically and added in trader joe chai mix bc it was good in zucchini bread I made a few weeks ago and I felt like it. Didn’t measure the bananas, added vanilla and yogurt off-recipe too bc I felt like it. Basically just slapped it together with the reckless abandon of someone who’s got nothing to lose bc it doesn’t matter.
And not to be too deep about banana bread but it’s a reminder to me that if you don’t feel motivated to do something, doing anything half-assed can be better than doing nothing at all. Especially when you’re the kind of uptight neurotic person who can’t do something unless it’s perfect—I’ve got to work past my action/creative paralysis and just do the thing bc me half-assing something is still pretty good.

Thought this was gonna be one of those things that showed what they used to do and how they aren’t celebrating this year given the current political/cultural climate, but nope! There’s still nice acknowledgements happening out there.

Big issue with tumblr is that because of the absurd humor here I’ll be looking at ads for a minute trying to figure out what’s funny about it before realizing it’s an ad

Banana bread is truly a cursed food like what other recipe so infamously has people collect ingredients only to waste them. Even as someone who bakes regularly, I have twice recently mashed the bananas and then not been able to finish baking and am left with gross frozen mash that doesn’t thaw right

It's a sensitive subject among dragons, hoards. It's not polite to admit you compare sizes, though most do. And questioning another dragon's choice of subject is just not done.
Except... hoards are, above all else, meant to be valuable.
"Face it, Fafnir. It was a fad."
"I love my Beanie Babies!"
