And why did they need the soothing of being in the ocean? Well... Karlach's heart does take maintenance, and she has something surgical coming up that's making her fret a bit. Fortunately Modern AU Baulder's Gate does have universal health care, but there's still paperwork to deal with, instructions to follow, and things to prepare for when major surgery is involved. She'll be alright, but it's easy to get overwhelmed dealing with it. You can't just forge ahead only thinking of the present when you have a partner and a life. She's very very brave about the whole thing, joking and putting on a strong front, but with Tav she's not afraid to show a little vulnerability about it, knowing that "there's no courage in fearlessness, there's courage in being fucking terrified but still going forward, still trying."

Besides, after some calm, she'll be right back into keeping her chin up and laughing things off. The ocean (and Tav) are good at that.
