Love this! In my playground. I love that with mountain biking you have to work so hard to get the top and then concentrate so hard while negotiating downhill single track forest paths, rocks and roots. Happiness and breathe. While this weekend's focus is more of an intellectual challenge, this was a welcome break. Body is starting to flow again, what an amazing feeling - when movement comes together. Back in Blighty after a few days with family near Bordeaux (definitely recommend!) and trying this pastime. Much sea water ingested and lots of fun had. Not exactly a natural and felt like bambi (don't like being rubbish at things!) but it was a lesson in patience and just playing in waves like a kid and challenging the brain to learn something new was simply glorious. A year ago today I started #vivrunseurope in my Gran's home town Unieradz (Poland) with excitement and and a little bit of fear in my heart. Launching myself into the unknown. How far would I get? Would I be able to run close to 4,000 km to the Southern tip of Spain, Tarifa? The funny thing is after day 1 my ITB flared up and I had to have 2 rest days, slight panic! To cut a long story short and with lots of fabulous highs and some bumps along the road I made it in January of this year. Things don't always go completely to plan but we get there with strength, grit, smiles and determination one step at a time. Thinking of all my amazing friends pushing their boundaries and limits out there whether in sport, work or life in general. You inspire me. Particular shout out to @sorrellwalsh and the completely awesome @wmn.run100 initiative. Congratulations to her and everyone who bravely ran 50km and 100km last weekend. Super inspiring night at @likethewindmag's #trailsinmotion. At times frustrating to watch as still not running due to injury but an amazing reminder of the possibilities and adventure out there on our beautiful planet. More exploration required! AND caught up with this amazing guy @jamesdpoole. Just back from running 100 MILES in 24 HOURS across mountains and in scorching heat at what is essentially the Wimbledon of ultra running, Western States. Super hero! I also learnt this: of the people that start Leadville 100 (another 100 mile crazy mountain race) almost all women finish and less than half of men do. London marathon weekend but I'm not running it, instead I'm building from the bottom up. A few weeks off to finally allow things to heal following #vivrunseurope. Couldn't ignore it forever! Still more to do but actively healing, focusing on breaking down scar tissue and moving. Need another challenge but also need to be patient, something I'm not good at! A new journey of a different kind. In the mean time, I'm SO excited about supporting all of my friends at the #vlm London marathon at Mile 21 tomorrow. A tiny piece of advice that helped me was having a storage facility in my brain of happy memories (family, friends, events, moments, days). Relive them in your mind during those tough moments. It not only distracts from the pain but lifts the spirits, key to performance and feeling good. Feel strong, feel amazing. You ARE awesome and you ARE brave.
