I feel like this narrative of Wickham being an old weirdo after younger girls comes from a modern perspective of their relationship, because Lydia and Georgiana were at least 15 and Wickham at least 27, which, to the modern viewer is egregious and seen as inappropriate. But unfortunately, was not weird back then. Remember Mrs Bennet is elated after she finds out Lydia got married.
