Ways in which TROS tells us Ben would have been able to have a good life re-integrated into the world:
—The Pasaana Force Bond, which pretty much says outright he will be Rey’s husband and they will have a family together
—The Snake is a blatant symbol for Ben in Rey’s subconscious and the only reason for her friends to be there too is to show how THEY would react to him (Finn acceptingly, trusting Rey’s judgement, Poe more nervous and skittish, but holding back) to prepare the audience for the idea of how Ben will be received upon returning to the Resistance.
—The Falcon is a symbol for Ben, and has its landing gear busted by the First Order, compromising its ability to make a safe return, but then its landing gear is fixed, on the same world Ben is told by his father that he too can return home safely, despite what happened as a result of him being with the First Order
—HAN SOLO HIMSELF EXPLICITLY SAYS “YOUR MOTHER IS GONE BUT WHAT SHE WORKED FOR, WHAT SHE FOUGHT FOR, (I.E., THE RESISTANCE), THAT’S NOT GONE, YOU CAN GO BACK TO THAT, TO THE PLACE SHE LEFT YOU, YOU NEED TO GO HOME.”
In conclusion, the film itself is saying repeatedly and explicitly that he absolutely could have gone back to have a good life re-integrated into society without the whole Crime and Punishment or going-into-exile schtick, and in fact is practically yelling that he will marry Rey, have a family, and will find a place with her friends and his mothers’.
(And that’s not even touching on the lead-up supplemental material which is all very thematically coherent, way beyond coincidentally, and repeatedly hammers home several particular points including “living to atone is better than dying to atone,” “manipulated survivors who let go and join forces with the good guy can become part of the crew even if the crew is a bit scared/uncomfortable at first,” and “Ben is innocent baby uwu”

TBH I would hate if “I want to be free of this pain” was fulfilled by his death. It would be a terrible message.

Funny how the Skywalker blood and legacy was enough of a narrative reason to fuck Ben Solo's life up but when it comes to absolution and reunification suddenly he's just not Skywalker enough anymore. Wow.
It’s staggering that this shit not only made it into a movie where you can maybe imagine it was an accident and they’re just the worst writers to ever live, but no this shit comes out of Terrio’s mouth and he thinks it’s an okay thing to say. He doesn’t immediately cringe and apologise, he says it again. In public.
Ben’s unworthy to carry his own legacy because carrying it fucked him up. He gets to be a victim of this bloodline from his conception and then he gets to be punished for being a victim. Because his trauma is icky and it makes men uncomfortable and Ben should have just tried not being traumatised by the constant ongoing horror that is his life. If he was going to go around getting victimised through no fault of his own whatsoever, he should really have had the decency to never be bothered by it. But nah, it’s fine for him to never ever have a chance at life and not even be acknowledged in death. He ~served his purpose~.

I remember those days...
as a 2015 Reylo from the days where you could scroll to the end of the tumblr tag, looking at that kiss gif™ makes me feel like Rey and Ben have physically manifested in my house, gently patted me on the shoulder, and said, “you were right. we are in love. we are the softest.”

Ben Solo's death, isolated from the romance, is also problematic because he was coded as a conflicted, groomed, abused, abandoned and brainwashed child soldier fighting to break from his programming. The ancillary material supports this, and in Marvel's The Rise of Kylo Ren, it's shown he never attempted to kill Luke Skywalker, he didn't burn the Jedi temple, and he didn't attack his fellow students. It was a set-up designed to turn his family against him and place him within the First Order. Han, Leia and Rey work for two entire movies to try and bring him back. By killing every single character that even attempts to turn around, the film confirms their worst fear — that the only way out is death.

Wow I love how the fandom narrative is getting rewritten so Reylos are the ones who doled out abuse and harassment for four years instead of being on the receiving end. Just love that a complete lie is getting spread around and is going to be commonly-accepted “fact” on the website. Amazing. Love that for us
The same people who locked their Twitter down last night after John directly replied to them and encouraged pile-ons were the ones who made the #WheresRose hashtag and gave Kelly Marie Tran gifts to ensure she knew that the fans loved her and wanted to protect her from online abuse. I’m not talking about general fandoms taking credit for something, I’m talking about the specific girls who helped Kelly getting harassed yesterday because they spoke up for themselves. The same people. I do not want to hear from anyone that these girls are racist for speaking up for their dignity and wanting him to use his platform to treat women with respect. He did neither – for fictional women or the real ones asking him to stop.
I have been disappointed with all Star Wars actors who have been disrespectful to their fellow actors and the people who wrote the story. I have criticized Mark, Daisy, Oscar, Anthony, and John for the way they interact with the fanbase at various times, though I think Mark and John have been the worst about it. This is after John said not two weeks ago that stirring discord in the fandom was wrong. But he did it anyway because that was easier than listening to women.
This is not going to happen again. Girls who speak up for themselves are not going to get harassed by actors. They are not going to get blamed for racism that did not come from them. They are not going to be held out to be the abusers after they have poured their hearts into a story they love and supported the actors, writers, and directors who brought it to them. They are not the same as the Fandom Menace. They are not the ones who have screamed about women and people of color being the heroes in the ST. They are not the ones who called Kelly mentally weak for staying offline. They are not the ones who baited the fandom hoping for a queer storyline. They are not the ones who sidelined Rose.
John should be defended when he talks about fandom racism he has experienced, whether it’s from the writers themselves or the fans. That is not what he did. He chose to make this about dumb shipping when it was about women asking for spaces where the men they admire don’t talk about women as sexual conquests. If he’s not going to listen to that, fine, but if you truly want to talk about racism in fandom spaces, it is not going to be on the girls who supported Kelly when he wouldn’t.
I’m not going to be quiet about it anymore, and it’s the last time I’m going to be told to calm down because it was just a joke. Women have been a joke for long enough. It’s not going to happen again. I’m not taking it from anyone.
