HILLWENCH'S WHUMPTOBER 2025
I will be assigning 2 prompts each to a character of mine, and intend to complete a decent work in at least one for each by the end of October. I shall be slow, and also may take breaks (or even abandon the challenge) as demanded by my mental health. Below are my chosen prompts.
Mags Ortega - #2, focus on sewers and accountability. Magdalena is adventuring through the Vegas sewers with either Veronica or Boone, who asks too many questions about her past, causing her to snap at them. - #9, focus on touch and flashbacks. A more positive one, focusing on an intimate night between Mags and Veronica. Centers around Mags' trouble relinquishing control and allowing herself to be touched, lots of fear and flashbacks but at the end of it all she feels safe.
Diana Blackworth - #4, focus on nonhuman and changing 'loss of powers' to be 'powers gone haywire'. Diana's shadow goes out of control while she's patrolling the city, and she is 'saved' by a much more experienced and terrifying monster. - #29, focus on fainting and broken dishes. Whump set during Diana's first relationship, a day where she's having a lot of trouble staying upright and her partner does nothing to help, just watching.
Gelid - #31, focus on bleeding out. Gelid crawls to a pond so she can wash out a recent wound, only to find that despite the warm weather, the pond is frozen. Mostly body/medical horror with her attempting to treat the wound, but also some hints at her starting to turn into something supernatural. - #12, heavy focus on sacred place. Gelid in the village chapel, desperately trying to figure out what saint protects things like her, and eventually deciding to pray to nothingness.
Chamomile - #19, focus on all except the titular wild, as Cammy operates in cities mostly. Might actually spin a little twisted empowerment into this- the idea that he feels free when on a rampage. - #28, focus on backstabbing. A more frank look at the dark side of her tutelage under Richy O'Keefe- likely a torture/brainwashing session as punishment for an attempted escape. One of the more fucked up ones in the list, would into child abuse and implied sexual trauma.
Welp. We'll see if I do any of this. Off we go!

I will revisit this tomorrow, pick a few prompts and assign characters to them, to hopefully be written before the end of October (I am slow). Should be fun.
Likely OCs I will use are Diana (main sona who is the reanimated corpse of my previous, male sona), Mags (New Vegas OC who came back from the Sierra Madre a hollow shell), and Gelid (a freezing zombie who is functionally a vent OC for my sexual trauma). Also maybe Chamomile but I don’t think he’d let themself feel sadness enough for this.

Gonna go with one of my only in-fandom characters, that being Mags Ortega for Fallout: New Vegas.
For the canon character, I’m going with the Courier. While they move through the Mojave at the same time their journeys are not exact matches. The Courier finds Mags to be deeply concerning, a rogue element in the grand calculus of Yes Man’s plan, not to mention her attempt on a friend’s life. Mags, on the other hand, feels essentially nothing about the Courier except slight admiration for their profession. They meet when the Courier and Veronica pick up an altered Sierra Madre signal, sent by Mags in an attempt to lure Veronica to her position.
Mags is deeply annoyed by essentially any smooth-talking man; Benny and Mr. House being fine examples of this.
Raul might respect Mags a fair bit, seeing her as similar to him earlier in his life. The people of the Strip have essentially no respect for her, seeing her as just another nutcase tribal from the East.
Mags has tentative respect for Lucius, seeing him as one of the few in the Legion who follows its ideals out of logic instead of blind devotion. Someone she more sincerely respects is Julie Farkas, who at first seems naïve to Mags but backs up her aspirations with action. She has absolutely no respect for the leaders of most factions, especially House.
Yes Man fucking hates Mags. He just thinks she’s gross.
Mags has a rather massive crush on Veronica Santangelo, with their romance being a central driver of her story. She also tends to fall a little bit for any strong-willed woman who crosses her path, such as Keely (who she does not pursue out of respect for her existing partner). I think Cass might also have a deeply repressed crush on Mags.
Boone and Mags would hesistantly admit to being each other’s closest friends, but neither are “soft” enough people to think of it that way.
In the Madre, Christine made Mags comfortable enough in their final conversation that she actually allowed herself to cry a bit. Conversely, Dean found himself in tears after her (percieved) betrayal of him.
Mags started out intending to kill Veronica, but very much changed her thinking on the scribe over time. Caesar (and his entire legion, for that matter) fell drastically in her estimation as she saw more of their cruelty in person.
Mags hates easily and often, but her truest rage still rests with Father Elijah. Someone she loves platonically/familialy might be Lily; seeing her as a surrogate mom/grandma.
Mags is rather madly in love with Veronica by the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. After the Battle, Mags might have to turn down Cass’ extremely nervous confession. Christine pushed back against what affection Mags showed while they were trapped in the Madre.
Mags was likely along for the entirety of Boone’s character arc, and he for the latter half of hers.
Though she has probably done worse by accident, her darkest moment in recollection would be her intial attempt to murder Veronica for her assumed connection to Elijah. Thus, Mags spends much of her subsequent journey trying to earn Veronica’s forgiveness. Her moment of redemption would either be flipping out at Elder McNamara on Veronica’s behalf, or abandoning her loyalties to Caesar’s Legion. If Mags needs to forgive anyone, it is probably herself.
Mags would die for anyone. She believes nobody would die for her, but this assertion becomes increasingly false the longer she spends in the Mojave.

i mean yeah this is basically how Diana happened. I took her original form, dropped him off a tower, and her disabilities are the result of replicating his post-fall injuries.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.
