"it's like a bike with training wheels— you don’t need them forever, but they help you find your balance.” she smiles warmly, then pats the side of her boot, indicating that’s where she keeps it. "still, i keep mine close by. can never be too careful, you know?"

the fair was glowing with colorful lights, the air smelled like candy, music was playing everywhere, and you could hear people laughing all around. he had won her a small stuffed frog, they’d shared a funnel cake, and screamed their heads off on a couple of rides. for a while, wendy was having a genuinely good time. she’d even managed to forget what was waiting for her back home. but as the night went on, the worry slowly crept back in. lost in thought, she barely noticed when hunter’s voice broke through. "hmm?" she hummed, her eyes meeting his before following his gaze toward a photo booth nearby. the girl figured that was what he’d asked before she got distracted. "oh yes, let's do it!" she said, her face brightening. before he can say anything, she grabbed his hand and started pulling him toward it. "hurry, before i get cold feet!"

THE BLIGHT SISTERS.

thelma bright, eldest. 50. as the oldest, thelma carries the weight of leadership in the blight family. she is ruthless, calculating, and holds herself to a very high standard. she is harsh and demanding towards wendy, often pushing her to comply with the blight's family practices or face the consequences. however, beneath this tough exterior of hers, there is a begrudging, tough-love kind of care that she shows the girl. her protectiveness is not driven by affection, but rather a deep-seated belief that wendy is hers to keep in line, as part of the blight legacy.

velma and zelma bright, middle twin sisters. 45. the two younger blight sisters, represent everything wendy is not and everything she fears she will become if she follows in their footsteps. these two sisters are ruthless, selfish, and fully committed to the family’s dark magic practices. they view wendy as a nuisance. someone who fails to understand the true potential of their powers. for velma and zelma, magic is not a tool for defense or healing. it is a weapon, a way to control others and seize power. they see wendy's reluctance to harm others as a weakness and a betrayal of their shared bloodline. while thelma may half-heartedly care for wendy in her own twisted way, these two are the ones who make wendy feel the most alone within her own family— isolated, misunderstood, and unloved.

glinda bright, younger sister. 39. from the very beginning, glinda was an outlier in the blight family, the only one who didn’t fully embrace the darkness that defined them. her love for a human was the catalyst that sparked her gradual but significant shift away from the dark magic of her family. but it was her love for wendy drove her to flee from their coven. the decision to leave and try to build a better life for her daughter was one made out of love, but it was a sacrifice, one that cost glinda her life. when glinda left, their coven leader saw this and feared her actions could inspire others to break away from his power. he ordered one of his enforcers to cast a curse on her, one intended to strip her of her magic, but the spell backfired. it drained glinda's life force, slowly killing her over the course of several days.
