Final Evaluation
Evaluation
When considering my own work, I believe that my planning and layout was really well and organised. I had a good about of planning and ideas that I presented on my blog as well as experimenting with Photoshop and iMovie.
In terms of improvement, I feel that I could have had done better research towards my final outcome and could have experimented more in depth – the skills that I could have applied could have been improved. I think that I could have developed my project further by researching more about the culture that my outcome is based on.
My original intention with this assignment, was to be able to create a music video based on tourism around London as my final outcome, but then I researched more about music video about culture and had a clear idea set for what I wanted to do. Therefore I have achieved what I wanted to do overall, because my video was to the standard I imagined it to be and I am pleased with what I have done. However, I could have approached my assignment differently as I had an idea to create a music video on sightseeing and things to do in London (tourist attractions), but then I got my peer feedback and found that my culture music video would be more interesting.
I believe that my experimentation and investigation was valid and very useful because it have me ideas of how they would look like and what they are (cinemagraphs/gifs/stop-motions). Overall they helped me to explore and learn how they would work and what I could do in terms of for my final outcome.
During this assignment, I have learnt how to use blogs in terms of creating folders and posting blogs, I have also learned how to use iMovie. However, I do believe that I could have developed my skills for creating and editing the video and my planning could have been stronger.
My practical related to my research by my blog showing stages of development; the experiments I did – I wrote about what it is and how they work. I was influenced by my research and the ideas that I came up with for my outcome. My artist research was very influential; the artist that I looked at was ‘Gavin Evans’, who inspired me to show the beauty of the Indian culture.
The narrative within my project is about Indian Culture and Traditions. I wanted to create a music video based on the beautiful temples that people go to pray in and what they traditionally wear; the types of Indian sweets they eat, the henna they do for events and the bright colours that stand out everywhere. In my opinion, I think that I have successfully communicated the narrative because it clearly shows what culture I am trying to comprehend and it shows a clear understanding of the tradition. The music that I have used is a very modern Indian/English song called ‘Nakhre’ by Zack Knight – the song is about love & tantrums; I chose this song because of the rhythm of the music and the fact that the Indian song is combined with English words. The locations created the biggest impact on my video in my opinion because of how amazing the buildings looked and the details on the building of the Gods and Goddesses.
Working on this project has made me identify certain areas that I will continue to use and practice, such as, the video format and how I used iMovie to create my video, as well as my editing skills on iMovie and the equipment I used to shoot my images (digital camera).

About My Final Music Video
Editing
The narrative within my project is about Indian Culture and Traditions. I created a music video based on the beautiful temples that people go to pray in and what they traditionally wear; the types of Indian sweets they eat, the henna they do for events and the bright colours that stand out everywhere. In my opinion, I think that I have successfully communicated the narrative because it clearly shows what culture I am trying to comprehend and it shows a clear understanding of the tradition. The music that I have used is a very modern Indian/English song called ‘Nakhre’ by Zack Knight – the song is about love & tantrums. I chose this song because of the rhythm of the music and the fact that the Indian song is combined with English words. The locations created the biggest impact on my video in my opinion because of how amazing the buildings looked and the details on the building of the Gods and Goddesses.
I created this music video using iMoive, which I was able to understand the concept of how it works to my best knowledge. I used two transitions within the whole video. The first transition I used is called ‘cross dissolve’, which I used between each image where it fades into one another. The second transition I used is called ‘paper cut right’, which I used to change the main subject of that the images are about (e.g. temples to Indian sweets).
I decided how I wanted the image move, using ‘ken burns’, which allowed me to choose the direction of what way I wanted the image to move and how much of the image I wanted the viewers to see. I also had to crop some of the images to fit the whole screen to keep all the images the same through out the video.
on every image I done the same amount of seconds (5.3 sec) and the first image was for 7 seconds; this timing balanced the video out and made it fit to the whole length of the song that I used for my video.
For some of my images, I have edited them using colour mixers on the top right hand corner, which allowed to brighten my image or adjust the shadows and tones.
I used two videos of my model spinning around in a sari, which I captured to show the pleating in the sari and the colours involved. I completely removed the sounds on the videos using the volume button that controls each individual video and lowered the sound – so that it doesn’t crash with the song that I chose for my music video.

Music Video Idea & Indian Culture...
Music video –
What is a music video?
A music video is a short film that includes a song and imagery.
Example of a music video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eiv5aElMZs
For my final outcome, I plan to create a music video about ‘Indian culture’ and show our traditions. My idea is to go to different temples and shoot images of the buildings and parts on the inside as it’s very beautiful in my opinion. Then also, shoot a model dressed in Indian traditional clothing and jewellery to show what they look like. I’ll then shoot images on my temple in my own home to show how every Indian home has small temples set up that they pray to. And lastly I will be shooting images of Indian sweets and henna which is Indian art.
I will be adding a modern Indian music called, ‘Nakhre’ – by Zack Knight.

I’ll be using transitions and text for a good effect and explanation of what the images are.
About Indian Temples
· What is an Indian temple called?
An Indian temple can be separate part of a building. Inside all temples are the presence of murtis of the Hindu deity to which the temple is dedicated. The name of an Indian temple is known as mandhir.
· Why are temples built?
Back in the day, the ancient Egyptians believed that the temples were the homes of the gods and the goddesses. Each temple is dedicated to a specific god or goddess and he or she was worshiped.
About Indian sweets and savoury
· What is a Mithai?
Mithai (Sweets) are traditional dessert or choice of sweets.
· What are they made of?
These ingredients may not sound too appetizing but a knowledgeable cook can easily transform them into delectable sweets flavoured with cardamom, saffron and rose water.
· How are they made?
Traditionally, Indian sweets are not baked, they are cooked over an open fire. But certain Indian sweets are fried in oil for example, ‘Boondi ke ladooare’ are similar to the ladoos are deep fried. Small drops of a batter are dropped into hot oil then soaked in a simple syrup and formed into balls.
Jaleebi are deep-fried Indian sweets that are soaked in sugar syrup. The batter is normally made of chickpea flour and the yellow color is created from saffron or sometimes artificial coloring's

Research For Techniques
Cinemagraphs/Gifs/Stop Motion
What is a Cinemagraph?
Cinemagraphs are all pictures that show some movement which are then repeated, creating a video clip.
Examples of cinemagraphs - http://cinemagraphs.com/
When I created my first cinemagraph I found the editing on photo-shop challenging as the cut out for where the video plays must be perfect for it to work like a cinemagraph.
What is a Gif?
A gif is a short series of images that are then placed into a ‘forever’ video that repeats and never stops.
Examples of gifs - https://www.wired.com/2013/09/the-rise-of-subtle-tasteful-and-commissioned-animated-gif-illustrations/
When I created my first gif I struggled to add all the images in, as I didn’t know how to add them all in. But after I got the hang of it, everything worked out and into place.
What is a stop motion?
A stop motion is when every movement is captured in photographs and then is placed into a video creating moving imagery that could tell a story.
Example of a stop motion - https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/12/50-incredible-stop-motion-videos/
When I created my first stop motion I found it really fun and interesting. I like the idea of images placed into a moving video with music and text.

This is my test piece to experiment what I can do and what effects I could use towards my final outcome of a music video.
I’ve added text which I found easy to do.
Then I added the transitions which are effects that can make the images and videos blend in between each other.

Project Proposal
Aim & Object
I am going to create a short video to present a cultural tradition within Hinduism. My intentions are to show the beauty of Hinduism and what the traditions are; including the way we dress to what we do and how we pray.
Location
I am thinking to shoot this project in different locations (all based in London), such as; the temple, my home, possibly in a studio, and some Indian stores. The reasons behind this would be to show different parts of the culture, for example- the temple is where we pray to God, at home - we do the cooking’ patterns, pray etc, in the studio I can do the shoot of my model all dressed up in the traditional clothing.
Equipment
I will be using a Digital camera to shoot the images and a tripod so all the images are balanced out equally. I may use a light box, when working in the studio. I will then use a movie maker to collaborate all the images and videos into one video with titles and music.
Influences
I became influenced by my culture and the idea of showing people the beauty behind it all and all the pretty colours that are involved etc… I was also inspired by a photographer known as ‘Gavin Evan’ - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/photography/10902342/India-at-Night-photographs-by-Gavin-Evans.html?frame=endScreen His portfolio is based on ‘India at night’, where the images are very sad and dull; that’s why I would like to show the pretty sides of our Cultural Traditions. I want to show:
· Colour
· Happiness
· Beauty
· The good side
· Key elements in what’s important
I would like to capture images like these –
Light
I might be using natural lighting as well as flash on the digital camera. When working in the studio I would use the light box to live my model an effect. I will create a bright and colourful atmosphere and a happy mood as I will try to present the best parts of the tradition. I will achieve this by making sure the light is balanced out throughout all the images to show a type of flow.
Looks And Feel / Genre / Audience
It’s very Cultural and Traditional in Hinduism. The genre would be Culture; this will affect the way my work will look visually because there will be a clear link and connection to it. My audience would be all ranges of ages and to show what its live to other cultures (differences).

FEEDBACK!!!
I believe that the feed-back was very useful and leaded me to a specific idea from all the ideas I had in mind. They have helped me expand on that one idea about traditional culture and have given me ideas of what I could shoot. They really liked my idea and showed me that they understood it really well; which showed me that I presented what I wanted the audience and readers to see what ideas I’m trying to get at.
I feel more confident about my narrative ideas and what it will be based on and what ideas and research I could do for it. I can now move forward by looking at different artists and ideas on what I could shoot.

Music Video Ideas –
I have a few ideas in mind for what I could shoot and with what type of music in the background…
1st idea: I could create a love scene of two people of how emotionally connected they are with one another or even a scene of a couple growing old together and aging. The music for these types of videos; I would use:
· Over and over again – Nathan Skyes
· I don’t wanna live forever - ZAYN, Taylor Swift
· Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
· Say You Won't Let Go - James Arthur
· Looking For Love (Full Song) Zack Knight ft. Arijit Singh | Heartless
2nd idea: I could create a cultural video e.g. Indian culture, going to the temple, feeding the animals, traditional clothing etc. or do like an Indian bride wear fashion shoot with Indian cultural music or calm relaxing music.
· India/Middle Eastern Pop Style Music - Upbeat Instrumental World Music - Indian
· Western F Exclusive: 'Nakhre' FULL VIDEO Song | Zack Knight | T-Seriesusion
· O Re Piya - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
· Kailash Kher - Teri Deewani
3rd idea: I could go around London and take images and videos and collaborate them together into a music video for like a tourist set; to show people what there is to see and things to do, what the night life and day time is like. For a video like this, I could use British music or a very tourist type of music.
· Clean Bandit - Extraordinary ft. Sharna Bass [Official Video]
· The Fault In Our Stars - Charli XCX - Boom Clap
· Years & Years - King (Official Video)
· Nico & Vinz - Am I Wrong [Official Music Video]

Cinemagraph
I found this task easy to understand and worked in a group of three to create this cinemapraph.
Cinemagraphs are all still images which are mirrored/layered and then the movement is repeated forming a video clip.
