ok the full fantasy wasn't just focused on the spiders but on the fact that all of his friends were standing next to his grave and crying, convinced that they lost him. until they suddenly hear muffled thumping and screams and realize he must still be alive in there. so they start digging, trying to go as fast as they can, but once they open the casket all that's left of Sonic are his clean hedgehog-shaped bones. like the quills on his head are actually part of the skull you know what i mea
what's it called when you've been imagining Sonic The Hedgehog getting buried alive and eaten by spiders ever since you were 5 years old. like recreationaly. for fun.

daily reminder to slowly extend your hand towards that terrified animal whos been hiding in your pipes for months. let them smell you and get used to your presence. show them you're not dangerous. it will take time and patience, but it will all feel worth it once they finally reach out to you on their accord

I have a weird fixation on whumpees flinching and I'm gonna try to walk you all through Why without sounding insane.
I think the main reason is that it is often a learned behavior. It hints at a story, one that the character might not necessarily want to share. But it happens too quick and suddenly to restrain. It's mindless. It's your brain forcing your body to act on impulse and protect yourself from what is, very often, an imaginary danger. Which just means that its Extra terrible for any prideful character that considers themself strong or stoic.
Because it's basically announcing your fear to those around you. Letting them know exactly how to move and what to say to get under your skin. It forces you to be vulnerable way before you're ever prepared for it. It can change the mood dramatically. Cut a conversation short. Make people worry for you.
You can try to act up to draw attention away from your fear, but people have already noticed. They can see that your body is still trembling from leftover adrenaline. You cannot will those reactions away.
With the right people, the worst thing that can possibly happen as a result is just your pride being wounded. Which really isn't so bad all things considered, but God damn does it hurt like a bitch.

LOVE a whumpee that calculates their advantages. picks when to make whumper mad or when to give in. knows just what to say to get under whumper’s skin and when they should fawn. too proud to quit tugging at their leash but too smart to invite punishment with a whumper who loves the game of seeing what they’ll do next. whumpee who knows they can’t get out but rattles their cage anyway. just a little. just enough to remind whumper what exactly they’ve decided to keep close.

When a usually self-contained, tightly-controlled, emotionally-restrained character is running a high fever that just slices through all their usual defenses like a hot knife through butter-
Their emotions are all heightened and out of whack from the fever; they haven't had a decent night's rest in days; they’re in and out of delirium and not quite sure they can trust their senses; the combination of exhaustion and muddled thoughts has loosened their tongue-
So that they’re on the verge of tears, restlessly thrashing in tangled sweat-damp sheets, starting and flinching at noises and shadows, pleading and calling for their companions and admitting to sentiments they'd never ordinarily; apologies, affection, fears-
And when they're offered comfort and reassurance, they reach out for them and cry and cling to their companions and willingly lean into far more demonstrative displays of emotion than they would ordinarily-
Much to their embarrassment when they've recovered somewhat, despite the continued existence of the underlying feelings, but-
Their companions don't seem to look on them any differently apart from perhaps being a little... warmer, and freer with a soft touch and overt word of affection than before.

So the question always seems to be do you prefer the whump or the comfort, but honestly the best part is when you’re right at the edge between the two… Like, give me the moment when the supporting characters are finally reunited but they still have to get the whumpee out and it’s gonna hurt. Give me the light little careful touches and soothing voices with a hint of barely concealed panic because the whumpee is too far gone to recognize them. The moment right  when someone comes up with some good painkillers, and normally the whumpee wouldn’t want anything strong but now he’s begging for them so you know it’s bad. Anyone else?

My take is always that the scariest thing for a stoic/defiant Whumpee in recovery is Vulnerability. They have to let go and trust someone else to accept them. To properly take care of them. To not hurt them again.
Picture a Whumpee who finally, fully breaks down in front of their Caretaker. Desperately clutching onto them, fingers digging in strong enough to leave marks. Wailing sobs that get louder with time, as they 'gain more confidence' so to speak. And, most importantly, the things they say.
It isn't much. It's just "Please." Over and over again. Each one more distraught than the last. That's really all that they are able to get out in-between heavy breathes as their nose fully clogs up from tears.
And it means many things.
"Please don't make me regret this." "Please be honest." "Please take care of me." "Please don't leave me."

Characters who are just small and scared and vulnerable on the inside, but it translates to harsh, strong and scary on the outside.
Their thoughts: "Please, leave me alone. Don't hurt me anymore, please don't hurt me."
Their words: "Touch me again and I'll rip your hands off and feed them to you."

you know when u have multiple characters held captive and tortured (as one often does) and they basically take turns taking care of whoever just came back from being interrogated
you know when the person that comes back suddenly flinches away from their touch. which is something that they have never done before. theyve always reached out to their friends and eagerly accepted whatever warmth they can offer, and now being close only seems to cause them more distress
the implications of what could've possibly been done to them. the worry and utter helplessness that others will now feel, because a comforting touch was all that they were able to give each other in this situation, and now even that has been taken away.

What are your favorite ideas for aftermath of "noncon" scenarios? As in trauma recovery or lack thereof.
Thank you for the ask! Sorry I'm late, I meant to reply yesterday and wrote out my response and everything, but forgot to actually send it lmaooo
Scenarios for trauma and recovery of noncon under cut, aka me yapping
First off I really love whumpees who are... messy, in their recovery. They're so angry at themselves, at everyone around them, but they refuse to tell anyone why. They're too guilty, too ashamed to even confront the truth of what happened to them. They wind up pushing everyone away, until one day, somehow, one character finds out and it all just makes sense. I adore friends finding out of course, but I also love when enemy or rival finds out. They thought Whumpee was just a being a dick for the sake of it - bonus points if rival has noncon related trauma too.
-Adding on to that, whumpees who engage in risky behaviour in an attempt to gain their life back. I'm talking going home with strangers, getting drunk and letting themselves be taken advantage of, even if they know they've been drugged. Never saying no, to anything, even non-intimate things because they're so used to it being ignored. Just. Dangerous self-destructive behaviours just to gain some semblance of control.
-Perhaps a scenario for the first one, whumpee who never speaks a word to anyone of what happened - Whumper was someone highly respected. Team Leader, or Medic, or Hero, even just a Friend, someone beloved so whumpee things no one will believe them. They keep quiet with all this angst and rage building inside them. At a party -maybe celebrating Whumpers promotion or heroic deed- Whumpee drinks a little too much. They get into a small argument with whumper that escalates until it all comes out in one tearful confession. And personally I'm a fan of whumpee being believed immediately after this, every face in the room a mixture of concern, shock, anger and horror
-I see a lot about hypersexual whumpees after trauma and that's very good. But I really like whumpees who completely clam up at the prospect of any touch or intimacy, even non-sexual. It leaves room for some wonderful moments when the slightest innocent touch, brushing against them in the hallway - or needing to touch them to treat their injures - leads to a panic attack
-In fact, I love whumpees who's trauma response makes them act the opposite to how they normally would, and the confusion of friends/family/team that follows
-Whumpers who become so loving and tender afterwards, cleaning whumpee up and offering soothing words no matter how violent they were moments before. Even kindness can become a trigger
-When whumpee was captured with the team and abused - I'm not a fan of forced to watch in this regard, but I love when they take whumpee to another room but the team just knows. And if Whumpee did it in exchange for necessary supplies - one or more of them are sick or injured, and desperately need water and medicine- well then there's just a whole bunch of trauma and guilt for everyone involved! It will either make them grow closer as they work through it together... or drive them apart because it's all too much.
-I LOVE when whumpee is able to enjoy intimacy again. Whether it's a new relationship after the event, or an old relationship where intimacy had to be put on hold - there's little I love more than a Partner who really doesn't care how long it takes, even if it never happens, just having Whumpee safe is all they want; but it bothers Whumpee. They refuse to let whumper steal this from them, too. The moment they finally do it without crying, without being triggered, without having to stop and apologies - I think it's so sweet and a real marker of whumpees progress.
-I'm not just talking about sex, I mean intimacy in general. I really love Caretaker bathing a whumpee who's too injured or weak to do it themselves, gentle touches, tenderly washing their hair and it's so innocent yet such a private, intimate moment
-But also the lead-up to that moment too. It ends in a success, but there will be failures along the way. When partner is so careful, so perceptive, and when whumpee is triggered they keep crying and apologising and feeling guilty they can't share this with the one they love anymore, but partner keeps assuring them that it's okay, they can take as long as they need, that there's nothing wrong with them for being upset.
-There is also something to be said for a bad partner who does make whumpee feel guilty.
-After the event, Whumpee changed part of themselves that Whumper loved. Whumper loved their long hair? Cut it short. They liked the makeup they wore? Whumpee stopped wearing it altogether. Friends and team knew how much Whumpee loved doing those things, but it's too painful now. It's such a cathartic moment the first time Whumpee wears their hair long again, or comes down with a full face of makeup - and looking genuinely happy about it.
-I don't write it often, but I love when it goes to court, and whumpee is brave enough to look Whumper dead in the eye who tries to avoid their gaze. It's been a long fight, Whumpee often wondered if it was worth it, but when that guilty verdict hits they break down crying in relief. All that pain, reliving their trauma, it was finally all worth it.

That one member of the team who's the most grumpy and angry and always complains about others and doesn't get along with anyone and really just prefers to be left alone...
But when the whole team is captured they are the first one to go "Leave them alone. Take me instead."

Whumpee who finally allows themself to let go and accept Caretaker's comfort, but they are Stoic/Defiant/Whatever so they do not break down into sobs, they don't cling onto Caretaker desperately. No, that's too sudden.
Instead they just lay their head on Caretaker's shoulder, nothing more. They tense up only a little bit when Caretaker starts petting their back, but they can finally relax. Their breathing slows down over time.
From the outside it doesn't look like much, but both of them know how out of character this is for Whumpee and just how desperate they must be to reach out like this. They probably won't talk about it afterwards. But at least now Whumpee knows that if they ever need to let go, they found a safe space for it.
