"Chaos Entwined" (WIP)
(A Sonic x Shadow Fanfic)(created with ai)
CHAPTER 1:
The Edge of Battle The wind howled through the ruins of an old Eggman base, dust swirling in the dim, flickering light of a damaged security system. Sonic skidded to a stop, his eyes scanning the wreckage. He had followed a distress signal here, but he hadn’t expected to find him. Shadow stood amidst the wreckage, his back to Sonic, one hand clenched into a fist. His black quills were speckled with ash, and his breathing was heavier than usual. "You okay there, Shads?" Sonic asked, stepping closer. His usual cocky grin was there, but his voice had an edge of concern. Shadow didn’t turn immediately. Instead, he let out a slow breath before saying, "What are you doing here, Faker?" Sonic smirked. “What, can’t a guy check in on his favorite rival?” Shadow finally turned, crimson eyes meeting Sonic’s. There was something… different. A flicker of hesitation. But before Sonic could press him, a sudden explosion shook the ground. Shadow's communicator crackled. "Warning—Enemy reinforcements detected." Sonic groaned. “Guess we’re not done here.” Shadow’s hand tightened around a Chaos Emerald. “No. We’re not.” And then, they were running—side by side, dodging collapsing debris as robotic sentinels descended from the sky, weapons primed.
CHAPTER 2:
Between Light and Shadow They fought together like they always did: Sonic’s speed a blur of destruction, Shadow’s Chaos powers tearing through enemies with precision. But as the battle raged on, Sonic couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off with Shadow. Shadow was fighting harder, faster, almost recklessly. “Shadow! What’s up with you today?” Sonic shouted, backflipping over a burning wreckage. Shadow didn’t answer at first. But when he finally did, his voice was quiet. “I need to end this… before it’s too late.” A final explosion tore through the battlefield. When the dust settled, Sonic found Shadow standing at the edge of the wreckage, gazing at the flickering lights of the broken base. "Talk to me, man," Sonic said, stepping beside him. Shadow hesitated, then exhaled. "...Eggman activated something. A failsafe. It’s tied to my energy. If I don’t stop it, it could destroy everything.” Sonic frowned. "Then we stop it. Together.” Shadow turned to him, something unreadable in his expression. “Sonic…” He hesitated, then, almost too quietly to hear—“Why do you always do this?” Sonic blinked. “Do what?” Shadow’s lips twitched slightly. "Act like you care." Sonic huffed a laugh. “Because I do care, idiot.” For a moment, there was silence. Then, to Sonic’s surprise, Shadow chuckled—just a small, quiet sound. “…Then don’t get yourself killed,” Shadow said, turning away. Sonic grinned. “Same to you, tough guy.” As they ran off together toward the final battle, Sonic couldn’t help but think—maybe, just maybe, there was more to Shadow than just rivalry. And maybe… there was more to what he felt, too.
