When I lived here six years ago, I made a bunch of creepy yarn dolls and hung them in this pine. Now I'm moving back to the same spot, and there's one left and she's growing lichen

any criticism that could be lobbed at TES fans is also broadly applicable to the fanbase of any other nerd shit out there. I guess I prefer that the company I keep is unremarkable. at least we aren't known for doxxing people or some shit ykwim
The Most Annoying Fandom poll blog is a good follow when it's active, because it puts things into perspective. for all that certain ppl on here have annoyed me, elder scrolls bloggers are a relatively chill bunch. meanwhile 911 fans are out there behaving like absolute animals. I have never met one single human being irl who watches that show, and yet....? it's pandemonium out there, apparently.

Surrender is not realistic, it is evasion. Silence is no cleaner than trying. Defending Palestine has an impact, even if it is not complete. And someone who feels despair is not always closer to reality—sometimes closer to comfort

I think I have to change Sanshen's name bc it scans very similarly to 'Serana' when reading fast 🙄 usually I catch this type of thing before I become attached to a name...

randomly remembered how on deviantart in the aughts using images as references was treated as an actual cardinal sin. if a pose in something you had drawn by hand was 1:1 with an existing photo or another piece of art, it was considered the same as stealing. there were artists who sincerely insisted that references could only be used for practice and that if you wanted to draw something for the purpose of posting online you would need to have studied anatomy and color theory to the point where you could just Produce that thing from your mind with maybe the help of some general reference photos at best as reminders of what that thing looked like. insane amount of rigor to demand from a userbase of largely casual hobbyists. no wonder ms paint emo furry art is the only thing people remember fondly from that era.

I would be remiss not to mention that fandom people were the *only* other ones on here who were fired up over FOSTA/SESTA. and I confess I found it annoying at the time bc they were all like "Gdrive might delete my smutty fanfic!" while sex workers were dealing with blatant and violent unpersoning. But they weren't wrong about where this was always headed
This payment processor kerfuffle is weird to watch bc it's old news to me but everyone is just now freaking out about it since it finally came for their indie games or whatever. FOSTA/SESTA was enacted back in 2018 when I was actively doing sex work, and the payment processors were dumping our platforms left and right. All of a sudden the platforms faced civil liability for sex trafficking, so the credit card companies got gun shy.
This was pretty life-ruining for ppl like me who relied on sex work for income and had no other alternatives. Frankly triggering to even talk about so I won't get into it unless someone asks, but bc I was doing a lot of sex work activism at the time, I witnessed some pretty harrowing consequences. We were all screaming about this bill when it was introduced but no one gave a fuck except for fellow sex workers, and it passed with bipartisan support bc what kind of monster would support sex trafficking?!
Anyway this is all to say that it's not wrong or trivial to be upset about what happened with itch and steam, but sex workers were canaries in the coal mine and true to the metaphor, some of them are dead now. If this current censorship news bothers you (and it should) I would implore you to pay closer attention to the people who exist on the criminalized fringes of society bc we did everything we could to warn you all, but we were considered acceptable casualties or unworthy of attention. And FOSTA/SESTA was just a notable bill in a line of legislation that got us here. This was years in the making but no one paid attention until it came for their treats and that makes me really sad
