'THE LIVING STONES' Solo Exhibition by Lucy Farley
Tumblr media
Atlantic Red, 2016
31st March to 14th April  Open Monday - Friday 10 - 5pm at Worton Hall Studios
We are delighted to be hosting British contemporary artist Lucy Farley's solo exhibition The 'Living Stones' from Friday 31st March to Friday 14th April.
Our exhibition will showcase a collection of paintings and prints which are rooted in the observation and documentation - through repeated drawing, of particular land and seascapes in France, Spain and the South Coast of England. There is an emphasis on the history associated with a specific site, interspersed with the on going theme of man’s conflict with the elements.
Tumblr media
The mystical and fantastical emanate from a chosen landscape and its geology, whilst the act of drawing becomes a meditative ritual on what and how something becomes sacred, as well as a portal to the souls of the characters who shaped it.
From the sketchbooks developed outside, the images adopt a more abstract language once they are reworked on a larger scale back in the studio. Printed and painted papers are often used in collaged layers to build up a densely worked surface over time.
Tumblr media
To the Lighthouse, Ile de Re, 2013
31st March to 14th April  Open Monday - Friday 10 - 5pm at Worton Hall Studios
We hope to see you there!

Peter Blake design Stained Glass editions of ‘Dazzle Disc’
Tumblr media
Dazzle Disc Stained Glass Peter Blake  Large edition: 1m diameter edition size: 10 Retail price: £6,000 (incl. VAT) Small Edition: 60 cm diameter  edition size: 20 Retail price: £3,600 (incl. VAT) Available to order from CCA Galleries  website HERE
We caught up with amazing stained glass maker Annahita Hessami of the Cut Glass Studio, who brought Blake’s design to life. She explained how the editions were made:
‘I started by asking for the design/artwork to be sent to me to scale. I then use this to aid me in drawing my cut line. This is the bible to my window and what I use to cut the glass and lead the window on. Once I was happy with the usage of peters artwork the next challenge is to make sure there are no impossible pieces to cut in terms of shape and size.
Tumblr media
On the first 1m roundel there were a few areas where the glass pieces were too large or shaped impossibly for cutting into glass so I had to add a few little lines to enable me to make a strong long lasting sturdy window. This is always the hardest challenge for me. Especially when I'm working with such well known artwork.
Next step is to cut the glass, once this is complete and laid out it is time to lead the glass together. This is my favourite part of the process, this is when you really get to see what the final product is going to look like. I always like to experiment with different thicknesses of lead to add further depth to a design. This often means me making something and pulling it apart until I am happy with the balance. Other times I just get it right and go for it.
Tumblr media
With Peter’s 1m roundels I decided on a thick 15mm outside lead for strength, 12mm lead to break the different sections in the design 8mm lead for lead lines in between colour breaks and 5mm lead on the extra lead lines I have added for strength. As these panels are so large and the fact they are round makes for a challenging build. I decided to slowly build up from the central bottom section. I laid my perimeter lead down. Shaped it as best I could to make a circle and anchored it with a million horse shoe nails to keep it firm and in place.
Once the panel is fully leaded the next process is to check that all the lines are straight and line up properly, then wire brush the panel for a quick clean and start preparing for soldering the joints together.
Tumblr media
Once soldered on one side another challenge was to get this large bendy half made roundel off the bench and flipped over to repeat on the other side. Once both sides of the panel are soldered the panel has more strength and is ready for final process. Cementing. This is necessary for weathering and adding strength to the panel. Once cement is applied and left to dry, I pick around the lead lines with a sharp pockie tool to give a clean edge, the rest is down to elbow grease and a dry brush. Once the panel has been cleaned of all dry cement it is ready for a quick polish to give the glass a great shine blacken the lead right down.
This project was not a  quick or easy set of processes but so worth it! I really enjoyed making these and having the freedom to use mouth blown beautiful glass that translates the quality of Peter’s work.’
