‘Big Blue Bombom’ is our latest publication with artist Lucie Bennett. Following the success of ‘Big Pink Bum’ released earlier this year, Lucie continues her series featuring large-scale derrières with this new silkscreen edition of just 15, which sees a blue-turquoise line beautifully paired with a vanilla ice-cream inspired backdrop. She says: “In countries such as Brazil, the bum is very much an object of admiration; the big bum is fêted, as seen most noticeably on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, and I thought it would be fun to reference this in the title”.

Peter Blake: NEW RELEASES
We are excited to present a number of new editions by Peter Blake including the 'BBC' series, 'Tattooed Ladies' and 'Ghosts' prints. Launched at the London Original Print Fair back in May, these prints are available to purchase on our website!
BBC Series

Returning to his distinctive style of collage, Blake sees four of his newest editions featuring the now-repurposed BBC building 'Soho House' surrounded by much loved actors, television personalities and children's characters. Spanning a number of decades, the crowds include comedians Morecombe and Wise, the late Sir Terry Wogan and athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill as well as characters Rupert Bear and The Magic Roundabouts' Florence and Dougal. See who else you can spot! Clockwise from top left: BBC1 - Rupert the Bear & Friends BBC2 - Remembering Pauline Boty BBC3 - Tightrope Walker BBC4 - Noddy Arriving

Tattooed Ladies

A charming illustrative inkjet print featuring two tattooed ladies, in a limited edition of 50 prints. Watercolour portraiture has long been central to Blake's work, and he has released several 'tattooed people' artworks in his time. Ghosts

Exploring the art of lithograph stone printing, Blake has created two limited edition prints paying homage to artists Barnett Freedman and Graham Sutherland. An avid collector of found art, Blake's interest in arcane and unusual objects such as cigarette packets and match boxes has long been seen in his artwork. Returning to his fascination with historic items and the beauty of found objects, the ghost artworks have been created using vintage lithograph stones to create the layers of the background, imprinting the stones' history and revealing artwork from years passed. The result is classical and curious. Printed on vintage paper, these lithograph prints have a naturally charming sepia toned discolour and decalled edge. Printed at The Curwen Studio.

DANNY ROLPH : Learning the Language

DANNY ROLPH
Danny Rolph is back with another stunning silkscreen to complete his tropical trio of prints launched last year. Taking inspiration from his travels and memories of Mauritius, 'Encompass' joins 'Encounter' and 'Endeavour' and is available in an edition size of 30 prints. Launched at this years London Original Print Fair, all three of his editions are now available to purchase on our website. On Sunday 6th May we were lucky to be joined by the artist who gave an in depth talk about his work.

Encompass 2018 Silkscreen Edition Size 30 Image size: 700 x 985mm Paper size: 725 x 1010mm
BUY HERE
Rolph is careful and deliberate with his choice of colours. The blended pink and yellow background represents the exotic Mauritian sunrises, with the black gesturing to a topographical map of the island. The five elements in vibrant yellow, pink, pale turquoise, silver and white, echo the shapes he drew on the island; with pink, yellow and white mirroring the ground and a sudden slice of silver bringing the eye back into the composition. A gentle wisp of pale turquoise billows across the top like a silk scarf or a tropical bird lightly 'kissing' the dominant shape.
'Encompass' completes the trio perfectly, complimenting his previously considered compositions and choice of layered textures and glazes in 'Encounter' and 'Endeavour'. Rolph considers this print a summary of his time and experiences spent on the island.
Acknowledged globally for his multi-layered, colourful paintings, Danny's seemingly chaotic work reflects the dynamism of his surroundings. He is inspired by the cities of London, New York and Rome as well as the deserts of West Texas and the Indian Ocean, whose sunsets appear as a recurring motif in the background of his work. His colour choices are instinctive and deliberate and echo the environment around him. The artist continually questions surface tension and spatial relations via the mediums of Triplewall plastic and canvas surfaces, embracing doubt and discovery within the creative process.

Endeavour 2018 Silkscreen Edition Size 30 Image size: 700 x 985mm Paper size: 725 x 1010mm
BUY HERE
Following on from ‘Encounter’, Rolph's second silkscreen print explores the printing process further, finding particular enjoyment in the use of finishes and glazes. Originally intended to be grey, the silver additions to the left and right of the print add depth and a new dimension to the colourful base, while the vivid pink at the bottom is broken up by a single line of glaze enhancing the multi-layered effect Rolph is best known for.

Encounter 2018 Silkscreen Edition Size 15 Image size: 700 x 985mm Paper size: 725 x 1010mm
BUY HERE
Usually finding inspiration in philosophy, poetry and history, Rolph wanted to produce a print that related to his current interests in the studio. Having only produced one silkscreen edition before, Rolph saw creating this edition as an opportunity to allow him time to investigate the process further, which he found informative and exhilarating in equal measure.
“Recently I swam in the Indian Ocean and encountered colours, animals and geology I had only previously seen on TV. The experience of being in such a stimulating, other worldly environment influenced my choices quite strikingly in ‘Encounter’. The objective in using these particular shapes, forms and colours was to communicate the experience I had in nature and to expand my visual vocabulary in a new direction.” - Danny Rolph

The simplistic, hand drawn image created by Israeli artist @guy_yanai for his limited edition lithograph ‘Tree’ is based on the tree that features in Italian Renaissance painter’s Fra Angelico's work ‘Noli Me Tangere’, something Yanai has been fascinated with for many years. Guy Yanai is recognised for his simplified shapes, vibrant colours, flattened depth of field, and curiously common subject matter. Often painting in geometric blocks, akin to the pixelated screens and over-digitalisation of the twenty-first century, his oversimplified representations compress the gigabytes of data we perceive and receive on a daily basis. In almost direct contrast with this, ‘Tree’ is much more organic, simplified but still reliant on the heavily linear style that defines his work. A well-received artist, Yanai has had numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. Published by CCA in an edition of just 25, ‘Tree’ is signed and numbered by the artist and available to buy for £375 from the CCA website, link in bio. #guyyanai #lithography #worksonpaper #art #printmaking #contemporaryart #picoftheday #instaart #instadaily #screenprinting #artwork #cca #ccagalleries #wortonhallstudios #silkscreenprint #originalprint #paper #forsale #artforsale #thecurwenstudio https://www.instagram.com/p/CK3vqphFUVt/?igshid=189qwbruyx6vx

Jabbour enrolled into Leith School of Art in Edinburgh to complete his Diploma in Drawing and Painting, followed by a Masters of Fine Art in Painting and Printmaking from The New York Academy of Art. He now lives and works as a full time artist in the UK. Henry has worked with The Curwen Studio for many years making stone and aluminium photo plate lithographs. Focusing on the human figure, Jabbour is interested in exploring the emotive and expressive qualities of body gesture and its representation through mark making, tone and colour on the stone. My work-making process embraces both the familiar and the unexpected, and combines observation, memory and intuition.”

Whilst studying at Chelsea School of Art, Fiddian-Green took a trip to the British Museum and found inspiration in the shape of the head of the horse of Selene. 'The encounter paved my future. It was as if lightning had struck twice in the same place. The horse's head was so beautifully made, so considered, so right. It was as if it had been carved by the gods: a lesson in balance and harmony and proportion. Immediately it became my benchmark. For the past 30 years I've focused on capturing the beauty of a horse's head.'

Frank Bowling OBE RA (b. Guyana, 1934) moved to London in 1953, where his artistic career began shortly after his arrival at the Royal College of Art (1959-62). The artist has since established studios in both New York and London.
Bowling began his career as a figurative painter, and was involved in the British Pop Movement of the '50s and '60s. His first solo exhibition, Image in Revolt, was hosted the year Bowling graduated at Grabowski Galleries in London. However, in 1966, Bowling decided to move to New York, aided by his first Guggenheim Fellowship awarded in 1967. Following this move to New York, Bowling’s painting began to turn to abstraction – the field in which his contributions were to be most significant. His pictures, which had always inclined towards a frontal geometric structure of space, became more geometrically complex, guided by principals of mathematics and symmetry. It is during this transitional period in the mid- to late-'60s that Bowling’s seminal body of work, the Map Paintings – a series of quasi-abstract colour fields overlaid with stencilled images of maps of Australia, South America and Africa – was produced.
In 1971, Bowling met Clement Greenberg, who not only became a regular visitor to the artist's studio, but also an important influence to Bowling. Greenberg’s advice and encouragement helped remove any lingering doubts Bowling might have had about his commitment to modernism. The social and political imagery and narrative present in Bowling’s earlier work was replaced by an increasing focus on material, process, and colour. By this time, Bowling had developed a very personal palette for his large, light-filled, lyrical colour abstractions that distinguished his work from that of earlier Colour Field painters working in the USA such as Kenneth Noland, Jules Olitski or Larry Poons. However, never content to stop exploring and experimenting with the possibilities of paint, Bowling continued to innovate with new processes. He subsequently developed a special mechanical apparatus which titled the canvas so he could pour paint onto it, creating the spontaneous fusions of layer and colour now known as the iconic Poured Paintings.
In the early 1980s, the influence of geometry became visible not just in Bowling's paintings, but also in the way he worked with canvas. He started using chunks of Styrofoam to create quasi-sculptural relief, a technique the artist continues to use today. Indeed, Bowling’s recent works produced over the last few years continue to explore the nature and possibilities of abstract painting, the diverse range of principles and processes explored across his career now converging and coalescing in dynamic new configurations of colour and form. This new period of painterly experimentation has received critical acclaim, and has recently been showcased in exhibitions in the UK and US. Bowling continues to orchestrate the emotive potential of colours to communicate a visual experience of uniquely sensuous immediacy.
Bowling's paintings have been exhibited widely and internationally. Selected solo shows include Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (1971); Serpentine Gallery, London (1986); a UK touring retrospective (2003); Royal Academy of Arts, London (2011); Spritmuseum, Stockholm (2014-15); Dallas Museum of Art (2015). In 2017 the Haus der Kunst in Munich presented Frank Bowling: Mappa Mundi, a comprehensive survey of large-scale paintings. Bowling's work can be found in numerous public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas), Royal Academy of Arts (London), Tate Gallery (London), Victoria & Albert Museum (London), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York).

Designer Trees Bruce McLean
Silkscreen print with collaged elements Edition size: 100 Image size: 790 x 583mm Paper size: 943 x 748mm Published: 2011 BUY HERE
Two black Trees combines dynamic geometric shapes suggestive of architectural forms and with tree-silhouettes. Though effectively abstract, McLean’s palette and inclusion of a segment from a London street map perfectly capture the atmosphere of a sunny day in a London park. The urban atmosphere is increased by the inclusion of graffiti –like text. Companion piece to Pink Moda.
Encounter Danny Rolph
Silkscreen print with glazes Edition size: 15 Image size: 700 x 985mm Paper size: 725 x 1010mm Published: 2017 BUY HERE
Usually finding inspiration in philosophy, poetry and history, Rolph wanted to produce a print that related to his current interests in the studio. Having only produced one silkscreen edition before, Rolph saw creating this edition as an opportunity to allow him time to investigate the process further, which he found informative and exhilarating in equal measure. ‘Encounter’ will shortly be followed by another silkscreen edition.
This is the Big City Baby Dan Baldwin
Silkscreen print with gold leaf, diamond dust and glazes Edition size: 100 Image size: 800 x 400mm Paper size: 950 x 560mm Published: 2014 BUY HERE
This piece was created in collaboration with Allison Mosshart (lead singer of The Kills). "Allison Mosshart, lead singer of the band The Kills, wrote a piece called ‘THIS IS THE BIG CITY BABY’ when sitting with Jack White from the White Stripes, they had been sitting in New York by the wishing well fountain, and the events of that day prompted the written piece. It was then given to a project SFWAM - (Songs For Words and Music) which is a charity based literacy project with Jeff Antebi Waxspolitation records, pairing artists with musicians - Tom Waites, Nick Cave and many more. Allison had been hanging on for several years waiting for the right artist to illustrate her piece, my image was inspired by her writing - the cats and freaks come out at night whilst the city sleeps, as the clock strikes 12am some magic occurs. It’s quite a specific illustrative piece as it was a specific image for a project." - Dan Baldwin.
VINTAGE MUM
Faith, Hope and Charity Peter Blake Silkscreen print Edition size: 125 Image size: 990 x 547mm Paper size: 990 x 547mm Published: 2012 BUY HERE
Faith, Hope and Charity is a nostalgic triptych of segments made up from collaged elements of Victorian postcards. This delicate and feminine work illustrates the three Christian virtues mentioned in Paul’s first epistle to the Corinthians. This work is about sentiment and the power of words. It continues the exploration of this power, these eternal themes, that Blake examined in his recent ‘I Love You’ and ‘Hope’ prints. Using floral motifs on postcards was very popular in the Victorian era; here Blake has re-arranged these ornamentations to suit his own aesthetic vision. Cherub heads and child-figures playing musical instruments feature in the ‘Faith’ section; echoing the themes of childhood innocence and joy that recur throughout Blake’s work. The rectangular panel at the peak of the cross is taken from a work by Sir Joshua Reynolds ‘A Cherub Head in Different Views’ 1787. Each panel includes the design of a hand holding a messages ‘Remember Me, Forget Me Not and A Tribute of Love’ that would have been the centre-piece of the original postcards from which they are extracted.
Philip Morris Peter Blake
Silkscreen print with silver leaf Edition size: 175 Image size: 760 x 1015mm Paper size: 760 x 1015mm Published: 2007 BUY HERE
One of Peter Blake's found art cigarette packets or fag packets as they have come to be affectionately known. This series demonstrates Blake's belief that beauty can be found anywhere, even in objects that most would believe to be rubbish. The fag packets highlight iconic 20th century design and branding, a key component in the pop art movement. The simplicity of these pieces adds to their wallpower.
Milk Maids Peter Blake
Silkscreen print Edition size: 175 Image size: 455 x 660mm Paper size: 595 x 820mm Published: 2009 BUY HERE
Milk Maids is part 11 of the 12 pieces that comprise Peter Blake's portfolio box set, based on his work in the early 60's. The bright colours, bold patterns and simplistic compositions of pop art are heavily present, as are 60's pop culture icons such as Marilyn Monroe as seen here, Kim Novak, Lavern Baker and Billy Rainbow. The paper border has CCA's publisher stamp embossed in bottom right hand corner (not shown).

Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Storm Thorgerson
Silkscreen print Edition size: 325 Image size: 480 x 480mm Paper size: 835 x 660mm Published: 2004 BUY HERE
Storm decided to rework his iconic album cover for the re-release of Pink Floyd's album, he says 'Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon was remixed from original tapes in 5.1 surround sound or super audio to provide an even more detailed and splendid audio experience. It was the same music but not the same mix. A different beast, in effect, and it seemed appropriate to indicate as much on the cover by reworking the original design, which was an airbrush illustration with line work for tint lay.'

Silkscreen print Edition size: 20 Image size: 815 x 655mm Paper size: 815 x 655mm Published: 2017 BUY HERE

To the Lighthouse, Ile de Re Lucy Farley
Silkscreen print Edition size: 100
Image size: 1070 x 800mm Paper size: 1270 x 1020mm Published: 2013 BUY HERE
To the Lighthouse, Ile de Ré showcases Farley’s fresh and dynamic take on nature, landscape and the spirit of place. Romantic and windswept, Farley’s sweeping lines and washes of colour draw the viewer into this coastal scene of lighthouse, boats, ominous sky and swelling water. She combines a tremendous sense of atmosphere with a modernity and minimalism that reflects her personal connection with the landscape. The title of this piece reminds us of the novel of the same name by Virginia Woolf, and indeed the flow of line and colour is reminiscent of Woolf's stream-of-consciousness style of writing.
Beachscape Wester Ross Donald Hamilton Fraser Silkscreen print Edition size: 175 Image size: 453 x 560mm Paper size: 605 x 725mm Published: 2006
BUY HERE
Beachscape Wester Ross by Donald Hamilton Fraser. Fraser's dramatic use of colour lends the landscape an almost surrealistic air. The marks of his palette-knife technique can be clearly seen in the foreground, lending real texture to the picture surface. The bright swathes of colour are not blended together, but stand in stark contrast and create a feeling of joy and vivacity that dominates the work.

This beautiful image has a very special story. Before his death Fraser has been very keen to contribute to the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, but sadly was unable to complete any work. With this in mind Fraser's wife kindly suggested and gave permission for a silkscreen to be made from a valentines card that Fraser had once painted for her, as she felt that the image was highly appropriate. Fraser created a valentines card for his wife every year of their sixty year marriage.
Created especially to raise awareness and funds for the British Heart Foundation. All profits go to the BHF.

Craigie's Canary Peter Blake Etching with hand-coloured chine collé Image size: 24.5 x 29.5cm Paper size: 38 x 46cm Edition size: 50 BUY HERE
Craigie’s Canary is a celebration of British artist Craigie Aitchison’s (1926-2009) life and work as well as a tribute from his friend and admirer Peter Blake. This hand-painted etching’s minimalism is an echo of Aitchison’s precise and simple compositions, its splash of colour reminiscent of the jewel-bright colours Aitchison loved to use. Aitchison kept canaries, they would fly about in his studio; as well as being a recurring motif throughout his work, the canary is a symbol of joy, illumination and innocence- and here it represents Craigie himself; a touching tribute to a dear friend.

Some of the letters are lit up like fairground signs, some are made with wood, I’ve also used wood veneer, diamond dust and embossing, it’s amazing the effects you can achieve in printmaking.” - Peter Blake

The sentence 'Rose is a rose is a rose' was written by Gertrude Stein as part of the 1913 poem 'Sacred Emily', which appeared in the 1922 book 'Geography and Plays'. In the poem, it references that the first 'Rose' is the name of a person. As one of her most famous quotations, Stein later used variations of the quote in her other writing and it is often interpreted as a means to say 'things are what they are'.
Having always liked the quote and having named his own daughter Rose, Blake took joy in developing these prints in an instinctive direction, evolving the meaning of the quote from a statement of the law of identity to an artistic translation using print media to create three exquisite silkscreens.

Presenting NEW works by BRUCE MCLEAN

CCA GALLERIES are delighted to present two new silkscreen editions by BRUCE MCLEAN
Inspired by the Dream Garden Monotypes released earlier this year, McLean has developed two stunning new limited edition silkscreens with collaged elements Shades of Grey, Light Blue and Shades of Grey, Cerulean Blue. In a limited edition size of 75 prints, each of the Shades of Grey silkscreens explore deeper McLean's dream garden vision with a refined focus on monochromatic patterns and textures with pops of vibrant colours. "In the intense bright and blistering Menorcan light, it is sometimes necessary to make black or grey works in response to the dark green, jungley garden (an endlessly moving sculpture) containing plants - aloes, yuccas, palms, tiger grass, cane, papyrus, phormium, cactus, agave americana, agapanthus, etc, punctuated by pomegranates." - McLean

A Lawnmower in the Loft by Bruce McLean
BOOK RELEASE A Lawnmower In The Loft : Bruce McLean - Autobiography Launched on the 7th November 2017
BRUCE MCLEAN INTERVIEWS HIMSELF AGAIN (TEN DIFFICULT QUESTIONS) @ Tate Modern, Terrance shop, Bankside, London. SE1 9TG.
"Made up of a series of vivid and bawdy anecdotes, McLean’s first collection of biographical stories echo the satirical tone of his art-making practice and relate the invention of his life as an artist. Both funny (ha ha) and funny (peculiar), this (non) po-faced history of art and comedy of (ill) manners presents a compelling soundtrack of human behaviour, gesture politik and inherited tics and traits." - Mel Gooding Own your own copy of his long waited autobiography A Lawnmower In The Loft with every McLean print purchase before the launch at the Tate - and immerse yourself into the world of Bruce McLean!
The Dream Gardens monotypes are a series of 25 works based on his wife Rosy's garden in Spain. McLean uses colour and texture to create shadows, forms and the suggestion of light to express his vision of his dream garden. McLean has used also this theme to create his series of Garden Ware ceramics which debuted in the V&A Ceramic Galleries for London Design Week this September.
