Tumblr users are often so arrogant and it shows. They can draw a full cast of POC characters but when POC say "Hey we want more than just our skin tone" they're suddenly deaf as shit.
Representation on Tumblr has become a way for white people to win brownie points just because they took a Hershey's bar and slapped it onto a person's skin tone.
The most disgusting thing is that they insist on making JUST African-Americans. They insist on making JUST one facial type, one nose type, one lip type, one hair type, one slang type, one skin tone.
And when they make a person Asian, it's Japanese. And when they make a person Hispanic, it's Mexican. And when they make a person indigenous, they never specify on which tribe/nation they came from, but you'll bet they're Native AMERICAN.
But my favorite part is when other POC demand representation and those same fucking white people are like "But but but look at all my black characters!!!!"
POC isn't just confined to America.
POC isn't just black.
POC isn't just Japanese.
POC isn't just Mexican.
POC isn't just Native American.
It's from the Miskitu in Nicaragua, from the highlands of Ethiopia, from the deserts of Saudi Arabia, from the mountains of Indonesia. It's from the arroz con gandules, from the folk music, from the festivals. It's many cultures blending, it's speaking more than just English, it's dealing with racism unique to our countries of origin.
It's more than just one universal experience, and white Tumblr isn't willing to show that.

“so I guess it took the end of the world for me to actually start using this journal, huh.”
    ↳peach’s apocalypse diary
        ~a WIP by @ditzysworld | a prequel for the in-between
genre: NA | post-apocalyptic | slice of life
content warnings: mentions of death
excerpt:
My name is Peach. I’m 19. since the disappearances, it’s just been me and my brother, Teejay, who’s 22. both our parents are gone. we used to have a little sister named Dalisay. she’s gone, too.
I’m not gonna go into details about what happened on that day because I know there’s a billion professional articles that are gonna be written about that. the purpose of this journal is to document firsthand how the normal people are dealing with this shitshow. I don’t expect to be the next Anne Frank but if it helps future historians in any way then so be it.
that is, assuming the world hasn’t completely been overrun by the black holes by then.
other things you should know: this story written in the form of diary entries takes place in the five years before the events of my other WIP, the in-between, and documents the daily life of Peach and her brother Teejay trying to survive a world in chaos.

I love the ambiguity of the term ‘WIP’. Is it a project in it’s third draft? A final draft being queried? An idea I came up with six months ago and haven’t written anything about yet? You don’t know. Nobody knows.

Writers be like “I’m gonna work on every random writing tangent I can find before finishing my main project, and I will NOT touch anything with a deadline.”
I’m writers.

*back from 5 month hiatus*
So I started a new wip to keep myself occupied during this self isolation period we’re all going through right now, haven’t even tried to work on anything in months but I’m hoping this new found free time will allow me to actually make some progress, if I don’t get too distracted playing animal crossing, I’ll be posting about my wip soon if anyone’s interested!

Little Things to Do with Your WIP
Sometimes you want to work on your WIP when you don’t have much time (during school, work, out on errands, etc) so here are quick, easy, and little things you can do with it when you can’t actually write/plan in-depth. I’ve also included websites and links as jumping off points.
Create a playlist based on the WIP or a character/relationship
Brainstorm possible titles/chapter names (my post about titling format examples and a deep dive into two-word titling)
Write a journal entry/letter as one of the characters
Research very specific things about the setting/history, lore, clothing, hobbies/vocations, etc of your story
Deep dive into a category of worldbuilding (I have posts on WB here, here, and here)
Create a mood board for the setting, a character, or entire story on Pinterest or Canva (Some examples for countryside, city at night, summer abroad, and the coast)
Write down dialogue for a therapy session your MC might have
Design a section of a character’s room/home using pictures, descriptions, or drawings
Research names and meanings (The way I find OC names)
Write down a dream/nightmare a character might have
Take a personality test as your MC
Write a fortune cookie for each MC/side character
Research actors/models/etc if you’re still creating physical descriptions for characters (I recommend using IMDb)
Research mannerisms, habits, and quirks to enrich characterization (I wrote some down here.)
Hopefully these things help you satisfy your itch to work when you can’t exactly work. Happy writing!

There’s nothing more disappointing than a found family dynamic that ends with “And then they all went their seperate ways and remembered their wacky found family fondly” like no shut up they all live in the same place and their lives remain interconnected forever
