Once someone turns a certain age, they are chosen by the spirit of an animal. They then gain one special characteristic from that animal. The wisdom of an owl, or the speed of a cheetah, or the strength of a bear, so on so forth. A cockroach chose you, the animal known for their ability to survive almost anything.
