When Dream was really young, he befriended a young boy named Catt. The young boy often blended into the crowds, easily fading into the background, but something about him instantly drew Dream in.
Catt didn’t go to the training academy, wasn’t one of the lucky ones to actually secure a spot, so he was often lonely. He didn’t really mind it. He didn’t really want to surround himself in large crowds of people, and he valued the time he was able to spend alone. Then, along came a boy who could’ve been the embodiment of summer—Dream.
Dream and Catt became fast friends, and they often spent their time hand in hand, Dream pulling Catt off on the next adventure, whether that be scaling the walls of buildings or going on a scavenger hunt or anything else. The two were inseparable. Dream had other friends, of course, and he often rambled about his rival and other childhood friend, Technoblade, but it was always Catt and Dream, Dream and Catt.
Then the 96th Hunger Game occurred.
They don’t talk about the 96th Hunger Game.
The only time they ever came close to talking about it was when Dream came to Catt in tears, kneeling in front of him and choking out apologies as he sobbed over and over again until he passed out.
That was the last time they talked. After that, it was always Catt catching a glimpse of Dream, only to see the blonde turning away. There was always a guilt that lingered in Dream’s chest after the 96th Game, but Catt never blamed Dream for the pit of grief that had made a permanent home in his gut.
But the guilt was too much, so Catt never got to tell him that.
If sometimes Catt’s favorite bakery treat will appear on his doorstep when his money’s running a bit low, he doesn’t say anything. He simply takes it with a soft thanks to whoever may be listening.

Those poor tributes for the 100th game. In my victors au, the rebellion really decided that the perfect time to strike would be when everyone was distracted with the fourth quarter quell. They were right, but it still sucks because these kids are suddenly left in an arena without power, and they’re struggling.
At least the Bench Trio was let in on the rebellion plans (Because Tommy is Wilbur’s bby brother, and both Techno and Dream became fond of Ranboo, and Tubbo is just so smart that he got Quackity to admit it). But they’re still woefully unprepared to deal with the rest of the remaining tributes who are no doubt freaking out.
Meanwhile, the rebellion is v much focused on other things (y’know, the rebellion), but the tributes still being in the arena does make their job more difficult. It especially affects Wilbur. At least, until some of the others knock some sense into him by reminding him that he has to focus on seeing this through to the end.
Still, it must be terrifying to be sent to a death game where you have to kill other children, only to suddenly be plunged into darkness.

Tubbo thought he could never feel as much fear as he did upon hearing his name be called at the reaping.
That sickly feeling followed him everywhere—it was the one constant in a haze-filled mind. He was detached from his body, a mere spectator in his life, but he could still vividly remember his shaking hands, tight throat, and the terrible pit in his gut that formed upon hearing his name spoken by District Five’s escort.
It’s like a part of him never left that moment. It’s as if some part of him still expects to be shaken awake by his sister, being dragged to breakfast whilst shaking away this nightmare.
No moment could compare to the day of the reaping. The sun was beating down on his already sweaty skin, ears distantly registering the cries of his siblings, and he was sure that would remain as the scariest thing he’s ever experienced.
He was wrong.
As he watches the simulated sky of the arena fade to black, the background hum of technology silencing until all he can hear is the sharp, surprised intakes of breath from Tommy and Ranboo beside him, he knows he was wrong.
Nothing could be scarier than a power outage in the middle of the games. He’s one of the few lucky tributes who knows the cause of such an unprecedented event, but he’s not sure if it makes it better or worse.
Because right now, a rebellion is starting all over Panem, and he is trapped in a dome full of scared, on edge teens who will not know the games have ended.

Oh, here’s a fun fact about my victors au: Dream and Wilbur did not like each other at first.
It was Techno who wanted to recruit Wilbur to their cause—Dream was charismatic, but Techno could see how naturally charisma came to Wilbur. It was a skill far more natural to him than it was to Dream. Techno saw the mastermind behind the pretty smile, and he knew the rebellion needed Wilbur. Dream, on the other hand disagreed. He didn’t like the sharp edges to Wilbur’s fake smiles, and the way Wilbur won the games didn’t sit right with him either.
It was a really awkward time because Sapnap, who had won the previous game, also didn’t like Wilbur. Techno always suspected it was mostly because Dream, whom Sapnap had gotten extremely close to, didn’t like him. On top of that, the two of them were very much putting their energy into befriending a capitol boy who had taken interest in them.
Punz was more neutral, but it was obvious to everyone involved that, if Dream didn’t want Wilbur there, then Punz would follow his lead. Punz only ever agreed to join the rebellion because he trusted in Dream, and that doesn’t mean he would blindly do whatever Dream says, but Punz has always been more inclined to agree with the decisions Dream makes.
Luckily for Techno (and the rebellion as a whole), the adults agreed with him. Philza especially was a big advocator for Wilbur, understanding that the poise with which Wilbur held himself would be an invaluable asset. Ultimately, it was the combined force of Techno, Philza, Puffy, and Bad that got Dream to cave.
Wilbur joined the rebellion, and he instantly did not like Dream. A part of this was largely attributed to previous biases he had towards the victor—Dream is a capitol favorite. Because of the way Dream portrayed himself to the capitol, which is also how he was portrayed to the rest of the districts, Wilbur hated his guts. He saw Dream as someone who pushed down his real personality so far just to bend to the capitol’s whims.
Projection is a very real thing, though, and, ultimately, the traits they disliked in each other were traits they disliked in themselves.
It didn’t happen overnight, but the two of them did become friends eventually. And now, they’re two of the most prominent figures of the rebellion :)

I haven’t talked enough about young Dream in my victors au. Because let me tell you, he was so reckless, and it is a very good thing he had adults looking out for him to make sure he didn’t mess up.
For years, Dream had vague thoughts about rebellions, but they were more daydreams (heh) than anything else. It was snippets of fantasies of living in a world without the Capitol or being a hero who brought justice to the people. But for so long it was just that—a fantasy that he thought about just as much as he thought about being a capitol citizen or living off in some other world.
Then, Technoblade gets reaped when they’re 12. Dream’s worried, of course he’s worried about his friend being sent to the death game. Then, Techno comes back, but instead of being a reasonable child and wanting to live peacefully with Techno in the victors district, Dream decides that he’s going to rig it so that he gets reaped next year. Why? Because he saw what Techno went through, and he wanted to stop it. And the only way he saw a rebellion ever happening was if he could get access to the capitol.
So, he did one of the first of many reckless things to come, and he asked the escort to read his name no matter what. (Here’s a little reminder that, after Katniss, the capitol banned volunteering). This could have ended horribly. Exdee could’ve suspected him or said no and reported him for cheating, but the gamble paid off. And, that’s an important thing about Dream—he takes risks. He takes risks and so often they pay off, and that’s one of the reasons Dream’s a valuable asset to the rebellion, and it’s one of the reasons he was able to gather allies for the rebellion. Every time he recruited someone, he had the risk of them reporting him to the capitol. But it always paid off.
Anyway, there have also been many times where Philza, Bad, or Puffy have had to restrain him to stop him from just straight up attacking people. In his defense, he was a stupid, very young teenager who sometimes let his temper get the better of him.
But, he’s always been cunning. And he’s always been willing to play the long game. There have been times when he’s almost messed up, but no one is without their faults, and he always had people looking out for him.
There was only one time he got way too close to compromising the rebellion, and that was when he had a pre-existing attachment to his tribute.

Your hunger games au sounds so cool! It has so much potential and there's so many ways it can go
I'm curious, do you have any ideas about Ranboo? Would he be related with Dream or Techno in any way? I just think it has a lot of potential, specially with this idea I got of Ranboo being taken in the 100th reaping, same as Tommy. Then Dream, Techno and Wilbur would have something to lose as they work on the rebellion with more urgency than ever. (also sensei techno pog) (maybe the capitol suspected a rebellion and picked their kids on purpose? perhaps? maybe?)
I am actually so glad you asked about Ranboo because you’ve given me the perfect excuse to talk about him more.
Ranboo is from District One!! His mentor is, in fact, Technoblade.
Ranboo, though he has experienced the same training as everyone else in District One, is very anxious about the hunger games (understandably so), and this is heightened by the fact that it’s a quarter quell which means it’s not gonna be like the other games. (I’ll get into the quarter quell at a later date). He’s overall a very anxious boy who was picked on in his training academy, and he’s wondering why the universe decided to hate him.
Then, he finds out The Blade himself will be his mentor, and he gets a bit happier. Because Ranboo is a fan of Technoblade. While most victors mostly have fans in the capitol, there are definitely people in the districts who admire them, and Ranboo really looks up to Techno. Techno always appears so calm and collected, and Ranboo wishes he could be like that. So, when he finds out Techno will be there, he gets the slightest bit less anxious. Yes, he’ll probably die, but he thinks it’s fine since he at least got to meet his idol.
The funny thing, though, is that he gets on the train expecting to just be with the escort, his mentor, the other tribute, and the other tribute’s mentor. (Though, even then, he doubts he’ll see the other tribute and the other mentor because they’ll probably be in different cabins in the train. District One has way more victors than District Twelve, so while Katniss and Peeta were together with one mentor in the books and movies, District One can actually afford to give their tributes space and allow them their own mentors).
So, Ranboo is expecting quality time with The Blade with a couple of appearances from Exdee, but instead he walks in the train and sees Dream just lounging around, eating some food, acting as if he owns the place. And he’s so confused. He’s wondering if there’s been a mix up or if Techno decided to not mentor him for some reason. Keep in mind that Ranboo definitely knows who Dream is—Techno and Dream won back to back and have this whole rivalry thing going on that everyone knows about. Literally everyone. So, Ranboo is convincing himself that it’s okay if Dream’s his mentor instead, and then Techno just appears, takes food out of Dream’s hand, and acts as if nothing is wrong.
Dream is actually just there because he always makes sure to go to the capitol to help with rebellion plans, whether he’s a mentor or not. The capitol allows him to show up because he’s one of the capitol’s favorites, so the citizens would probably riot if he wasn’t allowed in. And the Dream Team is very popular and includes a member from a high standing capitol family, so there’s really nothing they can do. He also tends to do interviews and stuff, so it at least seems like he’s contributing something at that time.
But Dream just tells Ranboo he’s there to see George, and he goes on a big dramatic speech about forbidden love (though I would like to say there is no romance in the story—everything Dream says abt that is in a joking tone)
So, Dream just kinda vibes as well, and though it’s probably not allowed, District One already gets away with more things than other districts and Dream as a person gets away with more bc Charisma + Dteam.
The victors in the rebellion have this entire thing of not getting attached to tributes bc that’s just bad. Statistically, most of those tributes will die, and they can’t allow their emotions to cause them to lash out and ruin the rebellion. They’ve all gotten attached in the past, and it’s great when their tributes survive, but they really try not to (and it’s gotten easier to be detached as the years go on).
But, Techno and Dream end up attached to Ranboo. Maybe it’s because they’re already planning to use the quarter quell as a distraction for the rebellion to properly begin, or maybe it’s just something about how truly kind and nervous but well meaning Ranboo is despite everything. Regardless of why, they end up attached.
Surely this won’t have any negative repercussions for them :)

In my victors AU, obv it’s centered around the victors (except for the Bench Trio), but I wanna talk about the victors who mentored the “main” victors. Aka, Philza, Bad, and Puffy. They’re all from the career districts—district one, two, and four respectively.
For this post, I wanna focus on Bad.
To start with, he was the winner of the 89th Hunger Games, so he’s really not that much older than the rest of the cast. He literally won the year before Techno’s game (though Bad was 17 when he went to the games, so there is a 6 year age difference between him and Rivals Duo). Despite not winning that long before Dream and Techno, Sapnap doesn’t compete until 4 years later, and that’s the first year Bad mentors. It’s v sweet, and he gets way too attached to Sapnap, so it’s a really good thing Sapnap ended up surviving. (Bad will later on have to learn to not get so attached to his tributes, but that’s a story for another day). Dream meets and befriends Sapnap and Bad around the same time, and Bad jumps at the chance to be able to help a rebellion. He’s nervous, of course, but his belief in their cause is stronger than his fear.
Another thing: Bad and Skeppy are platonic partners. They’re childhood friends, but unlike Bad, Skeppy never got reaped. They’re also both older brother figures to Sapnap, and, since they all live in the victors district anyway, the three of them often just end up staying in the same house.
Ofc, Bad really doesn’t want Skeppy to be involved in the rebellion and everything, to which Skeppy responds that, due to their connection, he already has the capitol’s eyes on him. In other words, he’s in this whether they like it or not.

To talk more about my victors au: after the whole ordeal with Katniss, the capitol decided to ban volunteering. This really threw off the career districts esp since usually they’d have their tributes go through the academy and volunteer at age 18. In the end, they just had training start earlier, so a lot of the time their tributes still have an advantage.
Technoblade went to the games when he was 12. And he won. He did so well, in fact, that he was given the nickname “The Blood God.”
So, the rebellion partially restarted with Techno and Dream at the reigns (though it was Dream’s idea). Dream had been thinking about it for practically his entire life, but he didn’t decide to do anything about it until Techno, his rival and one of his best friends, got sent to the games. It was then that Dream decided he needed to get to the games in order to get access to the capitol in order for a rebellion to ever really have a chance.
So, he gets his way into the games. Dream is a very smart kid, and he’s always noticed the similarities between himself in the escort for District One, as well as the longing looks his mother often sent towards the escort (Exdee). So, he deduced that there was some connection there. He then managed to get to talk with Exdee one on one after Technoblade returned from the games, and he went on some spiel about bringing honor to his district and the family, and he convinced Exdee to say his name no matter what name was drawn.
Anyway, Dream ended up going to the next game (the 91st hunger games), and he won!! This also fueled Dream and Techno’s rivalry even more, and the capitol loves it. They love the competition between them, and they 100% have fans in the capitol.
I don’t know who Dream’s mentor would be (I may have him and Techno have the same mentor), but I know for certain that Techno’s mentor was Philza (bc emeraldduo).
There’s a lot of thought that has been put into this au so far :)

Okay but crimeboys in my victors au is heartbreaking. They’re bio brothers from district seven, and their parents are dead. Their parents died when Tommy was really little so Wilbur had to take care of him, and then the 94th hunger games rolled around, and Wilbur’s name was called at the reaping. He was 18 at the time and it was horrible because he just needed to make it through one more reaping, but his name got called on his last one, and now he was going to be leaving Tommy alone. (And his name was 100% in there more times from when he had to get extra food for him and Tommy).
Tommy’s only 10 at the time and suddenly his older brother, the one who’s taking care of him, is off to participate in this deadly game the capitol forces them to do. Wilbur leaves him the care of some people he trusts, and he goes off to the games, leaving Tommy with a little sheep plush he spent months making that was originally going to be given to Tommy on his 11th birthday. (The plush is named Friend).
Wilbur ends up persevering though. He vows to win the games to make it back to his little brother, and he does! He wins! He does so many things he’s not proud of during his games, but at the end of the day he’s able to make it back to Tommy, and to make things even better now they can live more comfortably. They have food on the table, a warm place to sleep, and Wilbur’s a part of a secret rebellion (that not even Tommy knows about), and sometimes he falls asleep imagining the future the rebellion will bring that Tommy will get to live in.
And then six years later, Tommy, Wilbur’s precious baby brother, is reaped for the 100th game. And Wilbur’s world shatters.

Okay but to speak more on this au, I actually adore the career victors so much. Techno, Dream, Philza (District One), Sapnap, Bad (District Two), Puffy, Punz, Purpled (District Four). Esp Techno, Dream, Sapnap, and Punz mean so much to me. They’ve been here since the beginning of this little planned rebellion, and they care about each other and believe in their cause so wholly and purely and they just make my heart go <3
I also love George in this au bc he’s a capitol boy who was v apathetic abt the districts and just wanted to live his life in peace. He literally had everything he wanted: he had a good standing family, and he had a bright future in potentially working on tech for the capitol and the games. And he was content with that. Until he met two (2) idiots from District One and Two, Dream and Sapnap, and he realized he would burn the world for them.
Dteam and RivalsDuo in this au are strong.
Been thinking about my hunger games dsmp AU where instead of the main plot being the characters IN the games, the main plot is about the characters being victors planning a rebellion behind the scenes.
The fun thing is that it technically takes place in the same universe as the hunger games w/ Katniss, Peeta, and all the others, but it’s an AU where the rebellion failed so now it’s the fourth quarter quell and all these new victors + some of their capitol friends have decided that they will not allow another rebellion to be stopped.
I don’t know if I’d write it with multiple POVs or just center it around one character (Dream).
Another fun thing is the whole concept of the rebellion starting with District 13 all those years ago and now ending with District 1 (where Dream, Technoblade, and Philza are from).
Just… having brainrot for my own au, and I will scream about it to anyone who will listen.
