I wrote this song about dissociation.

I remember several years ago when I heard the term "dissociation" for the first time. I thought "weird! feeling a disconnect from your thoughts/surroundings/self? I haven't felt that before."

Then, when found myself in a period of heightened anxiety and self-examination, I began to realize I *had* felt that before. Infact, I realized childhood trauma and dysfunctional socialization had made dissociation my norm. I hadn't been able to recognize it because it was occuring so frequently.

I've noticed this realization occuring for more and more people. In our world today, many folks have no other choice but to enter a state of heightened anxiety and self-examination... so I would venture to guess a lot more people will be having this realization in the weeks to come.

I've been working on some music for VIRTUE. https://x-e-a.itch.io/virtue Composing for a platformer game has proven to very different from composing for an album or soundscape -- I had to leave room for the sound of the game. If you're not careful, complex sounds can overwhelm a player and detract from the experience. I think I've landed on a fun sound though - spooky and creepy, without taking itself too seriously.

VIRTUE is a platformer game I've designed using the open source Godot Engine. A large portion of its assets have been created by digitizing my physical art pieces using stop-motion animation. With a play-time of around 40-60 minutes, this demo is intended to establish a framework I can expand upon in the future, while still giving the player a fulfilling play-through.

RootBound is a conceptual folk project; an outlet to convey wonder and reverence for the natural world. 'Songs Drifting Out from the Woods - Autumn' is a journey through the forests of central Illinois during the months of August, September, and October.
