My Final Outcome

My presentation sheet with the first and second concept leading up to the last and final piece, I'm really proud of how far I was able to go, along with making 2 prior ideas, I also really enjoyed making the final pose as I feel its probably the most complex I have tried so far, while there are some questionable spots I think the general idea can be seen.
I feel as if its important to give background on the character as it ads to depth, at the start of my project I wanted to focus on setting the character in a Guilty Gear / Overwatch style universe, those universes are more advanced in technology but keep a traditional look to its architecture, I stuck with it but I wanted the specific location of this character to be in a more ice / tundra setting as the color palate helps convey that.
to sum the background this character is a Assasin who has been conditioned to live in the ice filled tundra hunting both bounty's and animals to keep his people alive, his name "Chrysalid" is another way of saying Chrysalis which is best described by using the idea of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, it signifies a growth in nature and progression/change, which I believe is essential to survive in harsh conditions.

Experimenting with presentation

here I'm using different brushed and I really like the foliage mix so I will probably use that as I want to create a frosted mesh of leaves.

essentially I like how the name connects with growth and becoming something more independent.
When concept art for characters are layed out I feel its important to have the background compliment the design and the theme, it adds a small flare that brings more attention to the character compared to a blank white sheet.

Adding outlines for clothes (Cape)

My main inspiration for the cloak/cape was from the game "Elden Ring", Elden Ring has many starting classes with my favourite being the confessor as seen below

the cape in a way has 2 layers to it and I really like that so I also wanted 2 layers on my cloak along with the same feeling, I wanted to make it look more rugged and torn as I feel it fits an assassin more than an barely worn cloak, to do this I just added a lot of jagged tares around areas like the end of the sleeve or the bottom of the cape

Starting to shape and outline clothes! (belt and pants)

my main inspiration for this being Sasuke from the anime "Naruto", he has a very similar belt, he wears an "Obi" belt which is most commonly known for being paired with a kimono, however unlike a traditional strap belt it adds a flare and a more "Ninja" look, in my personal opinion I really like how 3d the belt is and how it pops out of the outfit compared to a traditional belt)

At first glance this pose has nothing to do with an assasin however I would like to argue that this pose is particular is feels really alive and mobile, there's a lot of energy that goes into this pose and I wanted to bring that into my final character, I think something worth mentioning is that fighting games in particular have to feel really alive, and I personally think that this helps convey a mobile pose.

Pose for final character
After playing around in pose my art (posemy.art)

I was going to use this pose above^^^
However I think I have found one that fits an assasin/ninja more

So I will go with this pose as its low profile and really conveys the swift assasin look, compared to the other one which looks more like a pose a knight would use after a battle.
For example this is chipps idle pose

While not as low profile he has his legs spread out and not together giving him a lower profile than if he were standing. In general i think that the lower profile pose fits an assassin more as it give that sense of being ready to pounce of their prey.
Now that im thinking about it I think the pose I picked will take too long so im going to fina a standard pose that isn't just staring at the camera and work with that so I can get my assasin idea across using the clothing instead

Playing around with different colours Mainly having the common red vs blue vibe, to represent two different sides with some different colours like a purple colour scheme, games like overwatch have the same colour scheme change for the same character.

Focus for 02/05/2025 and following weekend.
1st. I want to focus on making a moodboard for the final clothes and character
2nd. I will outline a pose for my character to convey the assasin
3rd. I will work of body features like body outline face head and general build, keeping it more thinner to convey a cutting through air style
4th. I will add the clothes outlines and then refine and color over for the final look.
In general my feedback told me that I have to:
keep the thinner look,
keep the cape,
get rid of clothes that are too wide/baggy as they look as if they hinder movement,
remove leg accessories and focus on lightweight stuff like small and compact footwear,
make a more worried face expression as it didn't quite get through

These response are more mixed some saying they look more like a barbarian and some saying it gets the idea across, one person said the length of the Aikidogi is too long and might hinder the feeling of being light, another suggested to take the cape off as it looks tight, someone also really like the singular shoulder pouldren, however a majority said that the character looks less like a assasin than a brawler for example.
I personally think of these responses that I should keep to a shorter length clothing while keeping them torn to convey a easily moving and less restricted look, I will also carry over the cape, I really think the cape helps with conveying an assasin type build.

From this feed back for this first character I have learnt that the long cape is generally favored for the agile look however the boots and leg accessories should be left behind because they hinder that aspect of swiftness.
I would like to carry over the cape and leave behind the shoes and leg accessories to help convey a fast and agile character, it will also be helpful to add face expression to the character because it will help convey the more scared look for the assasin but also because the question that asks if they look worried is really spread between different opinions. I will also keep the more worn and torn look of the clothes as it was also something mentioned in a good light.

Second Idea progress

incomplete but nearly done, currently working on the eyes and the head, I also plan on only settling on 2 rough ideas and 1 final fleshed out idea because I don't feels comfortable using any more time on ideas and would like to set a good amount of time for my final piece.

this is the scrapped cape outline as I generally didn't like the idea and wanted to focus on a more sleek look for the assasin.

the body ended out like this as I carried on because most of the body get covered by clothing and I needed to prevent my fill tool filling the whole canvas so I just loosely strapped together parts that had a gap in them and would pose a threat to the fill tool.
one thing that stood out to me is that I tried to originally make my fur coated outer layer on the pants by copying and pasting multiple of the same block of fur, it would end up like this

so I just decided to manually draw them myself along with the back ones to add some volume to the sided and make it seem more realistic

Goals for the week
today I will make progress on finishing my seconds concept and I will not be making my third concept because of many reasons, the first being that I have not much time left and want to be able to complete my final outcome, I also feel as if designing a third would take too much time and is also another reason as to why I don't want to make a third concept
of this I will create two and get feedback on them, take parts from them this both I and others like and finish the design along with a pose for the character.
