Some ramblings after finishing Ne Zha 2 (and Oubing is just...so good...red and blue ship almost enemies to friends to lovers, soulmates, saving each other from their fate UGHHH) but anyway I want to talk about other things especially about the theme of family here 😭

That last scene with lady yin hugging ne zha so tightly even when he's covered in thorns, even when he's hurting her but she doesn't care BCOS THIS IS THEIR LAST DAMN HUG 😭😭😭

And I think it just cleverly show their relationship all this time. Like the thorns are a visual representation of ne zha's existence, how he views himself: A thorn to the family, a burden, capable of only hurting people.

Ne Zha has always been hurting her (even from her womb bcos can you imagine being pregnant for 3 damn years??) yet, lady yin takes him in her arms, even when he's a bitey little ball of feral. Demon orb within his body or not, he is still her son. Someone she shed blood, sweat and tears for to raise.

And Ne Zha knows that 😭 which is why even at the very last second, even at their last hug NE ZHA STILL CAN'T HUG HER BACK BCOS HE THINKS HUGGING HER WILL ONLY HURT HER FURTHER, WILL ONLY MAKE THE THORNS DIG DEEPER AND THIS IS HIS ATTEMPT TO NOT HURT HER ANYMORE (i forget the fact that Ne Zha can't physically hurt her without ripping himself apart like 😭😭)

But you're still hurting her anyway, Ne Zha. What mother doesn't want to be hugged by her child at their last moment? 😭

OKAY OKAY OKAY THIS JUST OCCURED TO ME.

Ivan is perfectly capable of being likeable on a surface level. Their teacher says that he gets along with the other kids and is polite to superiors, and his graduation messages indicate he was well liked by his peers.

It's been pointed out before that it's hilarious that Ivan seemingly only behaved in an unhinged way with Till, and how jarring it must have been for everyone around them to see Ivan go from 0-1000 whenever Till was around.

Ivan was observant and KNEW how to endear himself to others. He could have chosen to put on whatever mask was needed to have Till's attention.

He loved Till for being strong and resilient, and seemed to enjoy Till's extreme reactions to things. Till is described as the most sensitive of the group, and he doesn't seem to change who he is for anyone. Ivan loved Till's authentic self.

Did he let the mask drop entirely around Till, because Till was the only person he was interested in having a genuine connection with? Did loving Till, who was never anything but himself, inspire Ivan to be honest?

Is that another tragedy of Ivan? That he truly loved someone enough to be his flawed, weird little self in front of them, and was not loved back?
