Breakup Letter

Dear airport,

My last experience with you was terrible, stressful as I have to buy a bunch of cosmetic products and almost missed my flight because the salesperson had a hard time in finding the items that I wanted to buy. I spent about 35mins in the duty-free shop and I think you guys are super unprofessional in dealing with customer’s shopping experience.

Real-life problem

As people are traveling more frequently, airport shopping is becoming an integral part of the travel experience for many travelers. Naturally, as the number of traveller increases, more travelers will start to purchase products like cosmetics and branded stuffs from the duty free store in the airport. However, there is no solution to reduce the tedious process that one has to suffer when buying duty free products. For male travelers especially, helping a female friend to buy a cosmetic product can be really frustration as he barely possesses the knowledge of the cosmetic products and thus it can be time consuming for him, in an unlikely event, he might not catch his flight on time.

Prototyping thought

I thought of collaborating with the airport to streamline the shopping process, however, It is difficult for the airport to coordinate as it is associated with too many brands. Therefore, I think it will be making more sense to design the mobile app dedicating to one particular brand. In this case, I think it is appropriate to design for Estee Lauder, one of the biggest cosmetic brand.

Medium Fi Prototype and Discovery Log 9 (Merged)

As I was working on this prototype and busying with my internship, I think it would be appropriate to merge the two together so that I can best utilize my time.

This is the medium-fi version, I will be focusing the Cosmetic because that's the things that have lots of SKUs and really confusing. 

I did this in the Chinese Photoshop and so completed the wireframing in Chinese, I will change that back to English on the Final version. On the left-hand side, it is the airport list where users can choose which airport their friends are going.

On the right-hand side, it is the brand list, for this case, most of the cosmetics are under Estee Lauder and I think that it would be more viable to design the app for one particular company (eg. Estee Lauder) because it will set them apart from its competitors and that means they will be more likely to fund this project.

Discovery Log 7

Giant egg omelet

This giant omelet costs me 7 jumbo eggs, but it was super delicious. I had pre-mix the eggs with salt, pepper, oyster sauce, carrots, mushrooms and little bit of soy sauce. The cooking style is little different from the western one, keeping the pan super hot a must and I have to cook it thoroughly with high temperature. Lastly, like I’ve done in the previous weeks, I’ve shared it with my beloved housemates and they loved it.

Reflection on TED Video

Firstly, I love to watch TED videos, I found it to be very inspirational, logical and fun to watch. The people appeared in TED are generally great people. Back on the topic of helping to tell the message, I feel that the reason why I am so attracted to watch TED video is that the speakers always use a personal story, a personal experience to start off the presentation. This is much more powerful than a plain starting which is packed with numbers and facts. 

So to draft my message, I am going to tell a personal experience, a problem that I’ve encountered, so that my audience could feel me and be appealed to my message.

less lo-fi prototype This is the version1 app wireframe on paper, I already draft out the basic UX, a modern look mobile application and I probably will use Apple’s IOS design language to finetune the designs. 

The Application is designed to solve a problem of airport shopping, It happens to me and lots of my friends, where we were asked by friends to buy something for them in the airports which sometimes is very troublesome because their description is not accurate all the time.

So, with this application, users can browse all items that are sold in the Airpot’s duty-free store and compress these items into a shopping list and share to their friends who will be traveling. The traveler just has to show the list to the salesperson in the airport, it contains a full description of the item and easier for both the shopper and the salesperson.

Discovery log

It's time to try something really America! I learned this recipe from a youtube blogger, but it does not taste as expected. I guess I did mess up the order of putting cheese and butter, which resulted in the flavor not being absorbed by the meat, and only remained in the outer layer.  

Still it looks really great and very delicious(from the appearance), however, as a person with healthy dietary every day, I should not eat no more than 3 pieces, too oily!

Discovery Log 5

It’s a FEAST! I decided to test my skills to the limit so I cooked a whole dinner meal for my housemates. It includes a potato-egg, kimchi soup, and stir-fried mushrooms. The difficult part is not about the cooking the dishes, I would say it's about controlling the time. I have to be fast with it because the first dish will become cold if I am too slow with the subsequent dishes.

Discovery Log 4

This week I decided to cook something different, a pork bone herbal soup. The Chinese Traditional Medicine always believes that the nutrition of the food ingredients will be defused into the soup. I simmered it for about 4 hours and the soup tastes great!. I received well feedbacks from my housemates. Loving cooking dishes every week and logging them down.

Reflection on short videos

The videos for this week is rather interesting, i want to firstly share my thoughts on the Authentic Narrative. I definitely agree with what the video mentioned, that we should uses different type of sources to justify our reports and therefore making our reports more credible. The official source and institutional sources has always been an important source of information when writing business reports, this is because the audiences of those reports are potentially investing millions of dollars.

Whereas for the “Animation timing”, I learnt about 24fps is the industry standard, and what surprises me is that sometimes drawing on two is better than drawing on one. This leads to my next thought about making animation. When making animation, we as the creators, must think from the viewers perspective, by doing this, it allows us to identify their pains/gains when watching the animation and therefore provide them with the best viewing experience possible. I think that I still have so much things to learn about animations and this short lists of video are really helpful.

Reflection on storyboard

We did generate a video for this storyboard, however, I think that these pictures can better illustrate the storyline as it has continuity in it. Firstly, I think my teammate YingYing had done a great job in drawing this out, I can’t contribute much when it comes to drawing.  Back to the reflection on the storyboard itself, I think that this the storyline became much clearer after the mood board ideation about 2 weeks ago. This time, we were able to extract and present the most important and significant moment of Amelia. I also think that we’ve done a great job in recreating the scenario based on our understanding of Amelia. Lastly, I think it is super important to make enough research to start the storyline as inaccurate or insufficient data can significantly affect our impression towards someone and that can affect the storyline.

Discovery Log 3

I’ve decided to cook a simple stir-fried tomato with egg for this weekend dinner. It was much more complex than I expected, I actually have to cook the 2 main ingredients separately then merge them together in the very last step. Looking back at the last 1 month of recording my own cook dishes, I felt satisfied and I will definitely try something more challenging in the following week.
