'Asar' is the chosen name of the half-fiend, half-elf consigliere working with Ymir of Jun. Serving as her first advisor in times of conflict, his mastery over the battle and arcane gifts proved crucial to their task.
But even this could not save his lady of war from exile at the King's hand.

Not even the dead rest quite so easy, after what happened to the Old King. Perhaps it was he alone that made the land slumber in its prosper, or even more alarming, perhaps he too is trying to claw back from the other side?

Annd here's some NPC art for a scifi setting I run.
Foreman Jill Harnoon, hard-toiling union representative for the custodians on Hara Station. Holds the dullest, hardest position on the station because someone has to do it.
Yiren, the In-Betweener, the most impactful artist of her generation, if you believe what she says. Holds incredible sway over the youth culture with her prestigious talent.

Used battle maps for a D&D game I'm currently trying to get off the ground. Trying out an isometric style inspired, largely, by games like Cult of the Lamb and Hades 2. So far it's been working out pretty well, I think!

Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U, 2015)
method of play: Wii U/Gamepad, Pro Controller level of completion: casual
yoshi's woolly world is SUCH a good game oh my GOD. like. play this game. RIDICULOUS how good the level design is. i'll be touching on some of the more fun observations i had while playing here, and i'll show screenshots to demonstrate my points. i have very little negative to say about this game, because it is wonderful, but i'll touch on anything negative about it when i get there
full review under the cut but You Should Play This Game
Miiverse and Amiibo Integration
this game's miiverse integration is so, just. elegant, and unobtrusive? okay, so on loading screens, it'll show miiverse posts, and there's miis on the overworld you can talk to, which represent other players that have posted on miiverse. it's not as fun as, say, wind waker HD's miiverse integration, but it's REALLY good. and, it comes in handy sometimes! for example, i was playing world 6-4, right? very near the end of the game. knot-wing's sky fortress. and i see these miiverse posts on the way into the level
this is a conversation in real time. this is storytelling. and this is a community communicating from within the game itself to give tips! beautiful. reminds me of elden ring's messages.
though, sometimes the miiverse integration was a little. broken? like so
naturally, this isn't actually miiverse, so some bugs are to be expected. this is juxtaposition, the miiverse replacement run by pretendo network. it works great most of the time, i'm not sure why it bugged out here? but it's fine, i'm not mad at it
the amiibo integration is fun and unobtrusive also! the game allows you to swap yoshi patterns on the fly; you start with red and green, and unlock more as you gather collectibles in the levels. collect all five Wonder Yarns in a level, which are skeins of yarn you can find in levels that the game presents from the beginning as being unraveled yoshis, and you get a brand-new pattern! usually it's just some cute pattern (Yogurt Yoshi from world 3-4 is my favorite of the ones i unlocked) but the special courses apparently have patterns based on Nintendo's past consoles! which is neat. special courses are unlocked by collecting every flower in a world, which i never did. you also unlock the other classic solid-color yoshis after beating the game once.
however, you can also unlock certain patterns by tapping amiibo! basically any amiibo that existed at the time the game released works, and you get a different costume (a green yoshi with a white T-shirt that has the amiibo logo on it) for scanning one the game doesn't recognize.
i think this is really cute! and i also think you're not missing much if you don't own the amiibo, which is the perfect sweet spot for amiibo to be in if you ask me. i also find the ones with skin colored yarn rather. unsettling. which is fun
The Soundtrack
ohhh my god. one of the best soundtracks of any game i've played, i think. banger after banger after banger. songs that range from cute and relaxing to powerful and foreboding, it's wonderful. i have very few words on the matter, but you should go just listen to some of the soundtrack if you don't believe me. i have linked several above; yes, the castle theme is the extended version, the unextended version available on youtube is, like, a damaged rip or something.
nothing more to say. excellent soundtrack that i think speaks for itself.
The Level Design
obviously a platformer lives off of its level design. so how's it stack up?
it's excellent. go play the game.
screenshot above is of a level that comes out of fucking nowhere - world 4-5, Sunset at Curtain Falls. in this level, you ride on shower curtains and leap between them, grabbing onto each one. there's a huge sense of momentum, and... it's a minecart level. let me repeat that. It Is A Minecart Level. it works like a minecart level, like you might find in a donkey kong country game or something. it's all simple reflex challenging, and it's probably my favorite level in the whole game.
i also love the mechanical through-line here. i had a thought while playing, that yoshi games are related more to the super mario series than any other nintendo platformer series, donkey kong country included. there's more real mario stuff going on in here than anything else that's not just a mario game.
that's a parakoopa. and a bullet blaster. not only that, but there's puzzles and collectibles that utilize these traditional mario enemies WAY better than even the core mario series tends to. it's kind of beautiful, really. and it makes sense! yoshi's one of only two platformer series that's derived from super mario but, like. isn't, super mario. yoshi's island was conceived as a super mario world sequel, and it treats the mario series as a place to draw thematic and mechanical tools from that it wouldn't otherwise have. it iterates on the super mario series in a way i haven't even seen the super mario series iterate in, probably forever. it's great, and i loved every second of it.
oh, something i should touch on. in this game, there is a base difficulty level, and you can buy a badge on your way into a level to make it easier; it's a modifier, basically, and you unlock new ones as the game goes on. the cheapest one just, adds poochy to the level; you unlock that one after you beat the one level that includes him. i brought him along for every level after that, and he's, definitely not always useful. he's an active detriment sometimes, and he's cheese other times. your mileage may vary, i just did it because it was funny
Summary
go play it. go play yoshi's woolly world. play the 3DS one if you can't be bothered to get a wii u, i've heard it's an okay version of the game. doesn't look as nice, but it has a little extra content and more compatible amiibo. more importantly, there are FAR many more 3DSes than wii us, so it's a more accessible way to get at this game. i played it on wii u, though - highly recommend. you can't do better as platformers go than this unless you're a challenge junkie. this game will surprise and delight you for the entire time you play it.
