Here’s a little anecdote I’d like to share with all of you:
In my government class, we had a unit where we learned about congress. My teacher’s way of getting us engaged was to have us randomly pick a real current congressperson, draft up our own bills and a present them in-character in a simulation of a congress session. Most of the kids who picked right-wing republican senators opted for a satirical, comically ridiculous version of the person they chose, you know just having fun with it, nothing genuinely harmful.
But I kid you not, one of my classmates who was playing a far-right senator (it might have been Mitch McConnell) introduced a fake bill to our congress- and I swear this is true- to make Canada a part of the US.
It was a joke. And we all thought it was funny because surely no one, even our notoriously crazy far-right politicians, would be that stupid.
Fast forward to yesterday when I’m first finding out what our president elect has been yammering about, and I realize that political satire is truly dead, because what could possibly be more morbidly deranged and comically absurd than the real world?
#us politics#fuck trump#united states politics#canada politics#also elizabeth may ate so hard with that address

Queen Otohime's monologue about not letting hate get to the children hits harder once you look at how Oda writes kids characters.
In nearly all of his potrayls, the children are akways pure, or at least, innocent.
Linlin was a kind little girl who just wanted to make friends but didn't know how to control her strenght. Carmel and the chef guy made her into a monster by ebabeling her toxic traits, thus creating Big Mom.
Yamato is nothing like his father. He was getting groomed into being a tirant like Kaidou, and in some twisted universe that actually happenned. But because he was able to see Oden at last he let his kindness and loyalty get the best of him.
And so many more examples
And even if the kids aren't perfect, (like hody and arlong in that same arc) the narrative always makes an effort in showing that even the indirect envoriement of being surrounded by hatred and just having all of these horrible things happen can deal horrible consequences to you.
Especially because it also shows young characters who are wronged being "redeemed" (i say it in quotation marks because they did nothing wrong) like Pudding, Helmeppo, and possibly the Vinsmokes if they get develoepment.
Even the main philosophy of "a child doesn't deserve to suffer for their parents's sins" that is relevant in pretty much every arc such as Water 7, Wano, Dressrosa and even Egghead. And that there is no such thing as "bad blood"
(And that's also what makes Doffy such a stand out. Because for the first and only time a child is being definied as actually demonic in nature. But I do really think it was just the CD's influence)
But at the same time, Oda shows us that children are our hope.
By making Tama a powerful resilient character who was able to survive and be side by side with who freed her country.
By having three kids being the catalyst that took down one of the biggest threats at sea 38 years ago.
By giving Bonney, a child of slaves, the biggest freedom of all and having her punch the oppressors on top.
So yes. Children in one piece are important. They rappresent the future. Going forward. Being free and kid and loved. Everything one piece stands for.
And whenever Luffy acts childish, that's just his inner child. Being as wonderful as ever.
God I love her so much

#holy crap op this is the best thing ive read all day#im actually emotional now wtfff 😭#one piece#sam reblogs

there is something so indescribably infuriating about being a trans kid in this country right now. We couldn't vote, so we put our lives into the hands of this country, and could only sit and watch as it was dashed to the ground because the popular majority would rather reelect a convicted criminal and rapist over a legally decorated black woman.
This country saw what happened 8 years ago and learned exactly nothing.

Today's vetted fundraisers
My family and I are seeking your help to escape the deadly situation in Gaza and evacuate to Egypt. Leaving our home is heartbreaking, but after being displaced four times during the five months of war, we have no choice. We narrowly survived sniper fire while sheltering, forcing us to crawl to safety, fearing for our lives.
Despite these hardships, I am determined to secure a safe future for my children. Entry into Egypt costs $5,000 per adult and half that for children, with additional funds needed for daily expenses. Your generous support can give us the safety we’ve longed for.

My name is Nuha Riyad Murad, and I am married. I am a mother of two boys and a little girl. Abdulrahman is 15 years old, Amr is 13 years old, and Jana is 7 years old.

And this is our story:
We lived in Gaza and worked and studied hard to provide a decent life for ourselves and our young children.
However, during this journey, we experienced difficult wars starting from the Second Intifada in 2000, followed by four severe wars in 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2021.
But we overcame these wars with our determination to continue living with love and hope. We are a family that loves life, joy, and seeks happiness.

Then came this destructive war on Gaza, which has been ongoing for over six months, leaving us with nothing but destruction, loss, and pain.

The city of Gaza was bombed, including buildings, schools, hospitals, and shops, even the infrastructure.

We faced many hardships during this war, starting from the destruction of our house.

And car, which cost us over $15,000, and the destruction of my husband's workplace, as well as the bombing of my children's schools.

In Gaza, since the beginning of the war, there has been no stable or regular electricity, clean drinking water, reliable internet, or sufficient medical treatment, or the bare minimum of nutrition and food.

Of course, schools have been closed since the first day of the war.
Therefore, my small family and I have decided to leave Gaza in search of a better future for us and our young children.

We will start a new journey to build a good life in another country.
In order for us to leave Gaza through the only border crossing (Rafah), we will need $5,000 per person, approximately $20,000 for the family. We also need another amount to start our own business to provide the essentials of life for ourselves and our young children, approximately $40,000.
Therefore, any support from you will contribute to rebuilding a good life for my family.

Vetted by @gazavetters, my number verified on the list is ( #157 )
