No Safe Spaces

My name is Kate and I have significant other that is trans. He and I have been together for less than a week, and I didn’t know my school was homophobic. I am openly queer at school, I have had some incidents where my identity hasn’t been valid and received backlash. Everyone knows he’s trans and today I heard things I never knew I would hear or feel. They invalidated his identity, they kept using female pronouns to talk about him, they demeaned him for being who he is. They attacked me too but I don’t care, he shouldn’t be attacked for his identity and it’s not the first instance this has happened. Another queer couple has had the same problem. But I’m done. I’m not taking shit like this anymore, my school should be all of our safe spaces, I never knew I would face this and I’m not about to sit down and take it. I’m about done with everyone’s homophobic remarks. My safe space has been destroyed and I’m not about to let homophobes do this I’m not going to let people set up that school to be anti-queer. I’m mad, I feel angry, I feel like revolting because everyone who’s under the LGBTQ+ umbrella should be able to have a safe space.

Gender Roles: Clothing

I never understood people who condemned others for not fitting the norms of gender roles. It’s such a close minded way of thinking. If someone who identifies as a cis-gender male wants to wear a dress or a skirt, then let him. If someone who identifies as a cis-gender female wants to wear a suit, then let her. Every person; male, female, and anyone in between should be able to wear whatever they please. Why can’t someone put on a piece of fabric that they like without being called “gay” or “flamboyant” or “dyke” or any other word used to insult people. Everyone should be able to express themselves in any way they’d like. Expression leads to creativity, creativity leads to innovation, and innovation leads to a better society. So, let’s let people innovate. If someone is not causing harm to the world or you as an individual, you should not feel the need to criticize them. Be happy for them, encourage them, love them. Spread love.
