Going through my drafts, I thought I’d post the barely-coherent ramblings I did like a year ago. I have no memory of writing any of these lol

I’m in love with the idea that Neil has some habits and mannerisms because of how he grew up “quicker”, and in a unsocial environment. As Neil gets more comfortable, the foxes slowly pick up on them over time.

Chewing on the sleeves and collars of shirts for example. Something Mary didn’t like, so he tends to do it when he’s alone, but it’s obvious because of the soaked, rumpled, and sometimes hole filled, shirts.

In a similar vein, biting at his nails, the skin around his nails, the inside of his cheek, his lips, etc.

What was I even talking about 😭 this is so infantilizing

Andrew Minyard is a theatre kid

I may be over thinking this… but one of my favourite things about Neil and Andrew’s dynamic is that Andrew is not the exact opposite of Neil’s traumas.

Maybe it’s specific to the genre, but I read a lot of fantasy romance books where the main characters love interest always has the exact opposite aesthetics or traits then the person/s that hurt them. A prime example being Rhys vs Tamlin in ACOTAR, but there are many others where there is so much emphasis put on the differences between the people that hurt MC and the person that’s accepted them.

Andrew however, isn’t so different from Neil’s demons on the surface. He uses knives like Neil’s father, he wears black like the Ravens, he smokes like Neil’s mother did, his personality was similar to that of Lola’s and Riko’s when he was on drugs- off of them, he was similar to what I (personally) imagined Mary to be. (And by similar I don’t mean like the exact same, just, well… similar)

Fanfic Recommendation: The Sun Still Rises by mordax on AO3

I am not a huge fan of Andreil kidfics where they adopt. It’s very much out of character for them both in my mind; neither of them have a particularly kid-friendly touch. However, I love kidfics where they’re forced into parenthood a lot. It stays true to Andrew and Neil in a way that adoption fics tend not to. There’s something amazing about seeing these rough characters do their best to take care of a child they have no clue how to raise but love so much.

This fanfic is by far the best kidfic I’ve ever read, and honestly one of my all time favourites in general. It starts off following the books pretty closely, but it diverges in ways that don’t feel like you’re reading them again with a few changes like many do. The author put so much thought into every aspect of this book.

If you are looking for the similar thrill of the OG, but want something different, I would recommend this fanfic.

Neil is doing what he can to keep his little brother safe, but he’s still mouthy and rough around the edges. You get the occasional Andrew POV, and slight spoilers; Andrew and Neil’s brothers relationship is amazing!

And lastly, Alex. Neil’s 4 year old brother. He is probably the best written child I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I’ve never felt so attached to a fictional child, I usually find them unrealistic or annoying. But Alex is such a well developed character, and he’s so easy to fall in love with.

It’s a very long fic, but it was worth every chapter!

Definitely check it out if it sparks your interest.

I know Kevin trying to force Andrew to play and like exy is often a joke. But I see someone that is so in love with something that when he sees someone with potential in need of something to live for, he tries to share with them the thing that has been keeping him alive.

And the fact that Kevin isn’t even doing it out of love for Andrew. (Cause let’s be honest; Andrew and Kevin do not love each other, they just have some weird, vaguely homoerotic codependence, ‘forced-to-be-around-you’ vibe.) He’s just seeing someone with so much wasted potential, and doing something about it.

And don’t even start me on Andrew’s half of this equation; where he sees people around him that need physical protection from people who have hurt them, even if he can barely stand them, and decides that his life and body would be better served as a shield.

Nathan is a Lord under the moriyamas I think, and Wymack is a king that has a whole bunch of knights who are the foxes.

Andrew gets captured by Nathan’s men while on a mission, and Neil comes down to the dungeon and tells him he’ll help him escape if he brings him with.

They escape and get chased, and Neil gets fatally stabbed but survives.

Anyone know what it’s called? Thanks!

i truly, from the bottom of my heart, do not believe that jeremy’s backstory is going to be horrifying in the vein of the mafia-exy ties expected in this series. it’s the sort of devastating that makes you hate going home, that makes you have a different text tone for family, one so loud it makes you flinch, that makes you not want to hear your last name, that makes you expect conflict from your sister, mother, and brother. we know jeremy doesn’t like jokes about suicide and cat is aware of this. we know jeremy’s dad is/was in the military. we know something happened at the fall banquet, something related to the group being called the floozies and something that made annalise hate exy and ‘ruined their family’. we know all of these things impact jeremy’s daily life and who he is as a person. the mafia or the raven’s cultish society don’t need to be involved in his backstory for it to hurt him or for him to be in therapy. suicide and trauma and shame and familial dysfunction/abuse and estrangement can fuck up a person badly enough.

If Mary and Nathan’s marriage was arranged (as I believe Nora confirmed), I think that really explains why she would be so hesitant to go back to her family in England.

Because they pretty much “sold” her. And even if it was her parents, she could have held a resentment to Stuart.

I think her story is so interesting, I would honestly read a book about her life before she had Neil.

I agree, I agree, I agree

Don’t get me wrong, I think Andrew calling Neil Rabbit is cute, but I don’t really like it. And this is absolutely no hate to anyone who does. It’s a cute pet name but I think it means something completely different for them. Andrew only calls Neil a rabbit because of his tendency to run away from his problems, and I think he only ever calls Neil rabbit like twice maybe in the whole series (Correct me if I’m wrong) and only when Neil gets flighty. It’s not an endearment, it’s an accusation and an insult honestly. Andrew literally says, "Remember this feeling. This is the moment you stop being a rabbit.” As in he trust Neil not to take off because Andrew’s got him. It wouldn’t make sense for Andrew to call Neil any variant of rabbit because that’s not what Neil is to him anymore.
