Echos of Gold- Chapter 2
ON WE GOOO!
Reader is gender neutral and Spoilers for Arcane Season 2!
Word Count: 1,100
Deep within the Arcane, Viktor stirs. A dull ache pulses in his head as he rubs his temple, slowly piecing together his scattered senses. His golden eyes flicker open, greeted by the strangely familiar, ethereal glow of the Arcane—a realm he’d come to know well during his time in the commune he created. It was a place he often retreated to, a sanctuary where his thoughts could unfurl freely. Yet, something feels off. The energy around him is brighter, sharper, and somehow… emptier. As he glances around, his brows knit together in confusion. “Where… am I?” he murmurs, his voice a quiet echo in the boundless void. He doesn’t expect an answer.
“Beats me. I thought you’d know,” a familiar voice quips from behind. Viktor’s gaze snaps to the source, his heart leaping in relief. Jayce stands there, a weary smile tugging at his lips. “Glad to see you’re okay. Didn’t think we’d make it out alive,” he says, extending a hand. Viktor takes it, allowing Jayce to help him to his feet. His legs are unsteady, but it’s not just from the disorientation. As he glances down at his hands, his breath catches. His form glows with vibrant hues, translucent and ever-shifting, like a living mirage. “I don’t think we are… alive,” Viktor says softly, the weight of the realization sinking in.
Jayce’s smile falters. “What do you mean?” he asks, his voice tinged with unease as he surveys the endless expanse of the Arcane. “It’s a hypothesis,” Viktor begins, his voice measured, though uncertainty flickers in his golden gaze. “I believe we may have lost our physical forms. We are one with the Arcane now—or at least, that’s my theory.” Jayce groans, dragging a hand down his face. “That doesn’t sound good. Can you think of a way to reverse this? You are the most familiar with the Arcane—there’s got to be something.” Viktor’s shoulders sag as he retrieves his cane, leaning on it for support. “I… don’t have an answer. Not yet.” He sighs, the frustration clear in his voice. “For now, let us—”
He freezes mid-sentence, his head snapping toward an unfamiliar sound: a voice. “Jayce, did you—” Viktor’s question is cut off as he hears it again. “Ekko! It’s Viktor’s handwriting!” His heart skips a beat. That voice—your voice. Viktor spins around, his hope surging, but all he sees is the endless void. His chest tightens with disappointment. “Up there,” Jayce says, nudging Viktor and pointing toward a faint opening in the dark, sky-like expanse. Both men look up to witness the moment you found the hidden lab. Your face shines through the darkness, illuminating the void with a fleeting glow as you sift through Viktor’s notes. “Is this… a memory?” Jayce asks, his brow furrowing. “No,” Viktor says, his eyes fixed on you. “It seems… recent.”
He takes in your features—the heavy bags under your eyes, the exhaustion etched into your expression. It’s clear you’ve been crying, and the sight tears at his heart. He feels an immense guilt for leaving you, even if it wasn't his choice. “So this is like… a window to the outside?” Jayce ventures, still staring up at the scene. Viktor’s eyes flick to the device in your hands, and his breath catches. “The Core,” he whispers. “It’s a modified Hexcore. I was developing it for another project.” His mind races. “That must be why we have this connection. Perhaps… perhaps we can use it to our advantage.”
“You mean we could use this rift to get out of here?” Jayce asks, his voice tinged with cautious optimism. “It’s… a leap,” Viktor admits, though a faint smile tugs at his lips. “But if anyone could achieve the impossible, it would be two of Piltover’s greatest scientists, no?” Jayce grins. “I missed this,” he says, gently clapping Viktor on the shoulder. “Having you back.” The moment is brief but heartfelt, as Jayce’s gaze returns to the rift. “So, how do we get up there? And didn’t you say we don’t have physical bodies anymore?”
“It was an educated guess,” Viktor replies with a faint smirk. “As for reaching the rift, we’ll worry about that once we find a way to get to it. For now, I suggest we explore this realm. There’s bound to be something here that can help.” Viktor tightens his grip on his cane, but his gaze lingers on the fading image of your face. Jayce notices. “Hey,” he says gently, stepping closer to his friend. “They’ll be fine. You heard them—they’re looking for Heimerdinger. If anyone can help us, it’s him.”
“I know,” Viktor replies, his voice heavy. “It’s just… I thought I’d rid myself of weakness. Of these emotions. I saw them as something useless….An obstacle I would have to overcome.” He pauses, his expression softening. “And yet, it feels like this… these feelings are the only thing keeping me going.” Jayce smiles knowingly. “As I told you, your flaws and feelings make you who you are. And you know they’d agree.” He looks back up at the darkness, where the vision of you has fully faded. “Let’s get back. So they can tell you themselves.” Together, Viktor and Jayce begin their journey through the endless void, their steps steady with a shared determination.

Echos of Gold- Chapter 1
This is very much a self indulgent story as a way to cope with the ending of Arcane season 2.
Reader is gender neutral, Mentions of Attempted Suic1de and Spoilers for Season 2.
Word Count: 1,073
The cold wind bites at your skin as you stand near the edge of the tower, gazing down where the water cascades into a small lake before flowing into the undercity. This used to be one of Viktor's favorite places. The hum of machinery and the surprisingly serene view of the city always seemed to soothe him. He would stand here for hours, sometimes muttering theories to himself, other times simply staring out over the horizon as if searching for answers in the distant glow of Piltover.
But now he’s gone, and so is Jayce. Heimerdinger never returned to Piltover, and even Ekko—your unlikely companion in shared grief—doesn’t know what happened to the Yordle after they split up. An aching emptiness has settled deep in your chest, one you’ve tried and failed to fill since the chaos of Piltover's war. You tried distracting yourself with work, with finding ways to salvage what little was left of your world, but the pain lingers—a dull, gnawing ache that threatens to overwhelm you. For weeks now, you’ve found yourself here, staring at the water as your thoughts spiral endlessly. You would give anything to quiet them.
The memory of Viktor and Jayce disappearing plays over and over, like a wound that refuses to heal. You remember the flash of light, the crackling hum of energy and the static that lingered in the air after they vanished. The helplessness you felt as the love of your life slipped away, the crushing loneliness that followed—it all swirls together into an unbearable weight. Why do you keep going? Everything you cared about is gone.
You exhale a heavy sigh and step closer to the edge. It would be so easy to let go, to end the pain once and for all. The chill of the wind seems to urge you forward, wrapping around you like an icy embrace. A tear slides down your cheek as you take another step forward. But before you can make the leap, the sound of someone clearing their throat pulls you back.
You flinch, turning sharply to find Ekko standing behind you. “Am I interrupting?” he asks softly, his voice tinged with his own pain. Without waiting for a reply, he sits down near the edge, gesturing for you to join him. “I know it hurts. I feel it too,” he says, his tone steady but gentle as he remembers the events of that fateful day. “But I still believe they’re okay. I’ve seen how the Arcane can move people between timelines. Experienced it myself. Who’s to say that didn’t happen to Viktor and Jayce?” You wipe the tear from your cheek, his words offering a flicker of hope you didn’t know you needed. “Maybe,” you whisper, staring back at the water. “I just feel... empty.”
Ekko gives you a sad smile. “I know that feeling.” The two of you sit in silence, gazing at the rippling water. Ekko pulls out a small gadget and fiddles with it absentmindedly. It hums softly in his hands, its gentle rhythm oddly soothing. “You know,” Ekko begins, breaking the silence, “after the war, I thought about running. Just disappearing, leaving it all behind. But then I realized... someone has to stay. Someone has to remember what was lost.” He glances at you, his expression heavy with meaning. “And someone has to hope.”
You don’t reply immediately. His words sink in, but the hollow ache in your chest doesn’t lessen. You nod in acknowledgement , trying to show him that you appreciate his attempt to comfort you. Then, a faint movement across the water catches your eye. You squint, focusing, and your heart skips a beat as realization dawns. “That’s Viktor’s boat!” you shout, springing to your feet. Without hesitation, you race down the stairs toward the lake. “Hey, wait up!” Ekko calls out, chasing after you as you follow the boat into a narrow cave. The walls press close as you hunch forward, navigating the cramped passage until it opens into a larger hollow. The boat slows, eventually coming to a stop.
Your eyes widen at the sight before you: a small field study setup tucked into the cave. There’s a workstation rigged together with salvaged parts, glowing softly with Hextech energy. Heart pounding, you move closer, scanning the scattered papers and equipment. Then you see it—a page covered in handwriting you know all too well. “Ekko! It’s Viktor’s handwriting!” you exclaim, holding up the notes. Ekko carefully approaches, taking the notes from you to examine them. “Looks like something about the Hexcore... fusing it with biomatter… and a mention of a space within the arcane,” he murmurs, frowning in concentration. “Heimerdinger would understand this stuff way better.” “Then we’ll have to find him!” you declare, your voice resolute as you hold up a small, cryptic note.
Ekko squints, reading aloud: “If you require my assistance, look toward Bandle City.” He tilts his head, puzzled. “That’s definitely his handwriting, but I’ve never heard of this place.” You glance back at the workstation. There’s more here—blueprints, half-finished sketches, and a small mechanical device that hums softly with energy. You reach for it, gently clutching it in your hand as you examine it. Your heart aches as you see the small runes edged into the metal around the circular device as you try to wrap your head around its purpose. Ekko looks over the device you are fiddling with with a curious look. “Looks like some sort of core? Guess Viktor was working on something.” He notes as you pocket the circular core as well as the notes and sketches.
“Well, either way it looks like we’ve got our next step,” Ekko says at last, his voice steadier than before. You nod, determination sparking within you for the first time in weeks. The emptiness in your chest begins to ease, replaced by a sense of purpose. Whatever it takes, you’re going to get to the bottom of this. Viktor, Jayce, and the answers to what happened—they’re out there, waiting.
