I created a beak book of a collation of Heron Preston images all using the colour orange. After experimenting with different types and weights of paper I found a thick slightly off-white textured card that gave my beak book a relaxed almost vintage vibe - which I think relates to Heron Preston’s designs. The photographs are edited to bring out their colour and I added texts and shape to bring more excitement to the book.

BBC Owning Colour, a study of blue.
Blue is the colour of trust. We relate the colour blue to success and belief. Many banks brand themselves using the colour and we also relate blue to the NHS, The Police and many large industries. It’s a familiar colour to us and therefore seen as reassuring with its links to calm and water. Many psychologists say blue links to thoughtfulness and mindfulness, its also thought to reduce crime and suicides. Its said to be the ‘worlds favourite colour’ and a familiar colour to us because of its popularity. Furthermore, there are links to wealth with the colour blue, again relating to big powerful industries.

Heron Preston and orange
Heron Preston, known as a fashion designer, creative director, DJ and content creator from San Francisco, recently displayed a collection, ‘For You, The World’. First shown in Moscow, this Fall/Winter 2017 collection was heavily influenced by workwear and combined streetwear to create understated designs with subtle hints of garments you may wear during manual work. In addition, Heron Preston collaborated with Virgil Abloh’s ‘Off-White’ to create a transparent handbag, featuring the brand’s signature belt style; you can see that both designers use construction pieces as influence.
Looking at Heron Preston’s work through nearly all his collections, from 2017 to 2018, there is a recurring colour: orange. Following research into the designer and interviews that have been held, there is no stated reason as to why the colour orange appears in most of his designs. Preston’s work is now often recognised by the warm colour. The strong use of the hue could have links to the high-vis jackets often spotted on manual workers. Perhaps this has been carried out not only on the designs which feature a high-vis strip but also the streetwear inspired garments. Detailing, such as text and labels, is also featured on Heron Preston designs, making use of the colour orange; the colour which arguably has brought the separate pieces of his designs together to form a collection.
