Arknights and stars
On that topic, Arknights has always had a connection to the stars and its own star map is a bit wonky if compared to earth now but makes sense if you see it in the great scheme of things.
From Astesia's file on, it's been implied that the dome that surrounds Terra is fake, and Kristen is the first one who has gone beyond it so far (traveling from Terra to beyond the dome). It's also said that the reason people cannot navigate the sea reliably is because the stars themselves aren't reliable.
But it's also a bit more concrete that the stars are a bit off, or, it would look like that.
Remember Children of Ursus? Everyone remembers its dark story but few remember the map layout.
Tumblr media
This is the Big Dipper, part of the constellation Ursa Maior. Fitting for an event that features bear characters.
But wait! Doesn't the Big Dipper look like this?
Tumblr media
It does. But the Big Dipper over 50,000 years looks like this...
Tumblr media
Like I pointed out in the previous post, the stars are always on the move. It may seem slow to us but if you take a large enough timescale then the sky sure does shift from what it's now.
Remember this skin of Astesia's?
Tumblr media
It sure is a pretty skin. But zoom in on the star chart and you'll find something...peculiar...
Tumblr media
Several constellations look...off. Like Leo, Virgo, Hydra and Gemini. And...
Tumblr media
The star that's marked as the North Star (i.e the star in the middle) is not Polaris, but Vega, the largest star in the constellation Lyra! Don't see it? Here, I'll make it a little more clear:
Tumblr media
And Lyra how it is now, which is, again, slightly different from how Lyra is depicted in the above image:
Tumblr media
Vega is not our current North Star, it's the star Polaris (duh). But Vega was in about 14,000 years ago, and will be again in about 12,000 to 13,000 years in the future. So not our current North Star.
Tumblr media
The celestial globe is also tilted at 45 degrees instead of 23,5 for earth.
So! A huge misser on the part of the artist, right?
Wrong!
You see, the ecliptic and equator in the artwork do obviously not align with our current ecliptic and equator. But our equator and ecliptic looking like in the skin can only happen if the precession of the earth's axis is tilted towards the south...which will be the case in 12,000 to 13,000 years from now. At that time, the constellations look will 'off' compared to how the look now (I was talking about the stars shifting over time in my previous post) and Polaris will no longer the be North Star, like in the artwork.
The kicker?
Lone Trail reveals that Terra is at least 13,000 years old.

walking into my rhodes island office, hanging up my coat, pushing W and Ines off my desk, wiping off the blood, and opening a message from Kal that says 'kill yourself' and then is followed by 'ignore that last message'. I nod thoughtfully and ignore that last message. I take a sip of my coffee. It's Muelsyse. I spit her out into the sink. I open the cabinet and get a new mug. Ho'olheyak is in the cabinet. I sit down at my desk and respond affirmatively to the email from Platnium asking me if Gravel has been bothering me. (This gets them into a subtext filled deathmatch, which is enrichment in their enclosure.) I respond to Amiya's last cute text emoji with a ':P', which she likes within 10 seconds. I clock out. I get a beer with Hoederer and Pallas. They get into a poetry battle in 3 different languages. 5 minutes of downtime. 6 hours of brooding on the landship considering the burden of the world (in the rain.) Amiya shows up with an umbrella eventually. She asks me how my day was. I say: good.

"writing is not that serious," I say, "I am doing this for fun, it is my fun hobby, and Writers Online could really stand to be a lot less precious about it." then I turn around and say "for this fanfiction of a children's video game I am trying to do some Kazuo Ishiguro shit"

last year i was eating in a fancy, large restaurant when i began to hear a rumble and the distant sound of people chanting ‘potassium, potassium’ and suddenly hundreds of people dressed as bananas flood this restaurant chanting potassium over and over and we were trapped there for a very long time because the bananas would not leave and they were everywhere

Consider, for example, the following situation. A characteristically modern form of social interaction, familiar from the rail and air travel industries, has become ubiquitous with the development of the call centre. Someone – an airline gate attendant, for example – tells you some bad news; perhaps you’ve been bumped from the flight in favour of someone with more frequent flyer points. You start to complain and point out how much you paid for your ticket, but you’re brought up short by the undeniable fact that the gate attendant can’t do anything about it. You ask to speak to someone who can do something about it, but you’re told that’s not company policy. The unsettling thing about this conversation is that you progressively realise that the human being you are speaking to is only allowed to follow a set of processes and rules that pass on decisions made at a higher level of the corporate hierarchy. It’s often a frustrating experience; you want to get angry, but you can’t really blame the person you’re talking to. Somehow, the airline has constructed a state of affairs where it can speak to you with the anonymous voice of an amorphous corporation, but you have to talk back to it as if it were a person like yourself. Bad people react to this by getting angry at the gate attendant; good people walk away stewing with thwarted rage, and they may give some lacerating feedback online. Meanwhile, the managers who made the decision to prioritise Gold Elite members are able to maximise shareholder value without any distractions from the consequences of their actions. They have constructed an accountability sink to absorb unwanted negative emotion.
