Was just reminded of this scene from v1, and… hoo boy. It also stands to mention that directly afterwards is the moment when Ozpin tells Ruby that “if [she is] not always performing at [her] absolute best, then what reason do[es she] give others to follow [her]?” which I think pretty much sums up Ruby’s entire character up to this point. 

Leaders aren’t allowed to make mistakes. Leaders aren’t allowed to be people. This episode in v1 ends happily, of course, with Weiss promising to be better and to follow Ruby’s lead, but Ruby’s own mentality because of this episode is inherently and deeply flawed. 

“Why are you asking me? Because I’m the leader? Because I’m just supposed to have something to say? … Gotta find someone who isn’t just going to screw everything up!” 

So in this moment, Ruby and Weiss have switched places entirely, and that’s fascinating to me. Weiss has upheld her promise, and has done nothing but support Ruby’s leadership, but now that support has tipped too far off the other side and Ruby’s the one rebelling against her assigned role. 

Which isn’t me blaming Weiss – there’s no one to blame for this situation – but it is interesting and I think the fact that Weiss was also so clearly struggling in the fight against the Jabberwalkers helps this point; she and Ruby are completely out of touch with each other, and this has to be fixed alongside Ruby’s own self-worth issues. 

Weiss challenged her first, and now she’s going to be the one to help Ruby rebuild herself.

In sum, I don't think we have any reason to give up hope for these two. And even if they don't become canon, that does not mean we should feel bad about loving these two and their relationship

I know there’s a lot of people who adore the Bee relationship but dear god anytime these two have these scenes I find it so romantic.

Ruby is struggling hard, just barely able to hold it together and her instinct is to come over and give Weiss support. There’s not a moment of hesitation, and it’s so much more.

When Ruby gently takes her by the hand she doesn’t grab hold and make Weiss squeeze back she puts her hand in Ruby’s own and waits until Weiss does squeeze because she remembers that Weiss doesn’t like to be touched, except seemingly by Ruby.

So Ruby gently ushers her away and holds out her hand and places Weiss’s own hand and doesn’t make her squeeze she just does it so she can lead her and it’s Weiss who makes the choice to squeeze in return.

It’s a very deep connection that shows that they know each other so very well. Ruby knows Weiss hasn’t had a lot of choice in her life, at least until recently and doesn’t like to be touched so she let’s her make the choice to back off or remove her hand if she wants but instead Weiss knows Ruby won’t hurt her and accepts the offered hand in the spirit that it’s offered and squeezes it, and trusts Ruby as she leads her away and then confides in her.

These are two people who know, care, and deeply respect the other and every word they say or action they take reinforces that fact.

I don’t know about others but Whiterose is such a sweet romantic ship, and I can not ever see them being shipped with anyone else…..except young maria. Don’t @ me.
