“Why should a French or a German citizen be born with access to world-class services and well-protected rights (actual implementation on the basis of minority status may differ), while a Somalian citizen is not only denied those things, but also faces huge obstacles in becoming a citizen (or even a resident) of anywhere else? If you are born a citizen of Japan, there are 190 countries you can travel to freely without a visa; if you are a citizen of Afghanistan, there are only 25. If you are born a U.K. citizen, and feel like a change of scene, you can pay $7 for permission to go to Canada, hop on a flight, and stay for up to six months without anyone bothering you. If you are born in a refugee camp, it can take years before you even get a chance to live in a place like Canada. So how can we possibly consider ourselves to be people who care about freedom and autonomy, when thanks to borders our destinies are practically assigned to us at birth? Is it absurd to form your own state? Or is it more absurd to have states in the first place?”

'I think white gay people feel cheated because they were born, in principle, in a society in which they were supposed to be safe. The anomaly because of their sexuality puts them in danger, unexpectedly. Their reaction seems to me in direct proportion to their sense of feeling cheated of the advantages which accrue to white people in a white society. There's an element, it has always seemed to me, a bewilderment and complaint. Now that may sound very harsh, but the gay world as such is no more prepared to accept black people than anywhere else in society.'
- James Baldwin, The Village Voice (1984)

you really can reach a point with transgender enlightenment wherein you can attribute any bodily feature silhouette and detail to any gender regardless of typical cisgender aesthetic connotations. anything can be a man's body if the person in it is a man. anything can be a woman's body if the person in it is a woman. anything can be a genderless body if the person in it is genderless. and so on. the only thing that matters is the personhood within and whether you are willing to look and know and see it. open your eyes. keep trying until you no longer flinch or turn away in shame or anger or confusion.

Even just using surgical masks and improving ventilation reduced covid cases in elementary schools by nearly half. Just surgicals saw a ~1/3 reduction. If we would all wear high quality masks like KN95s in public, we could eradicate covid (and several other diseases)

not to sound like a weak, morally impure centrist over here, but i think online leftist communities need to be a little more accepting of the concept that most people are just. not that well informed. we live in a society that provides access to an overwhelming amount of information and yet which discourages actually diving into much beyond the surface level. Most of the people you meet out in the world are just not gonna know much about a lot of what you care about, but that's not the same as being against those things, or being unwilling to learn, or being unnamenable to those ideas. Our modern society is an unending cascade of information and misinformation and disinformation and filtering through that shit enough to actually have a solid grasp of a subject, let alone a nuanced antiestablishment political take, is a skill that takes time and effort to develop, time and effort that is in very short supply. It really bothers me when I see leftists talk about how capitalism keeps us down by taking up all our time and energy and making recovery, both physical and emotional, cost what little we can afford, and then turn around and get upset that people are politically uninformed. On some level, you gotta meet some people where they are, and have a little faith in them to be open to new ideas and information. Ignorance is not inherently intentional, and it's not the same as antipathy.

"If you're not american, why do you even care-"
US-based company YouTube just nuked the government funded channel for HIV prevention in Germany. The channel is purely educational and had no prior (or current) violations.
Assuming you guys get elections again; if I see a single person telling non-US-americans to stay out of it, it's on sight.
(german source) As of writing, the channel has been reinstated due to public backlash, but is missing several videos.

I walked through the city and saw everyone--men, women, normal people, and children--all hard at work laying bricks. They were working furiously mixing clay, firing bricks, mixing mortar, laying bricks and building....something. I couldn't see what it was from the street because it was so massive as to obscure itself, towering over all of us like the carcass of some dead god. I saw workers mixing mortar run out of water and solemnly draw lots to see who would have their throat slit to finish the mix with their blood.
"Hey, buddy," I said to a worker passing by, "what are y'all workin on here?"
"Dunno," he said with a shrug.
"Why work so hard, then?"
He shrugged again before returning to the endless, backbreaking work.
Everybody I spoke to who claimed to know what the monolith was or why they were building it said something different. Most people had no idea, knew they had no idea, and didn't particularly care. Everyone agreed that it was necessary, that the terrible sacrifice couldn't possibly be avoided, and it would all be worth it in the end.
I had to know, so I left the city and climbed to the top of the mountain for a better view. And I saw it. Towering over the city two miles high was a brick red cock and balls shooting a stream of brick red cum into the heavens, surrounded by letters a quarter mile high that said "ME WGEN....TFW WHEN.....ME WHEGN UR MOM"
