Simon Thorogood - Digital Runway (1999-2002)
Digital Runway was an interactive installation that acted as an interface to the inspiration and working processes behind the ‘White Noise’ collection, and aimed to expose and illustrate elements of a design procedure not normally transparent.
By physically engaging with the runway – walking, running up and down, or jumping for example – audiences would trigger a series of computer-stored visual resources that would be screen projected. The user(s) are then able to change and curate imagery, creating ever-changing combinations and associations, or in other words physically VJ’ing a design story.

Lang and Baumann - Breathing Pillows (1996)
The swiss artists Lang and Baumann create inflatable site specific installations. The oversized scale, bright colours and art gallery context invite the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the work. Their earliest installation, ‘Breathing Pillows’, 1996, remains one of their most successful. The sky-blue outsize pillows are nearer in scale to a mattress as they occupy the gallery floor. Each is equipped with a ventilation device as the pillows are slowly inflated and deflated in sequence to suggest a room full of people breathing in a deep and peaceful slumber.
