don’t talk to ME about gay yearning. in 2020 during lockdown i lived alone on a boat for three months. i went ashore once a day to work in a marine bio lab. we all had to access the lab at different times so we were never together & risking infection. i was alone all day every day, from my boat to the lab and back to my boat. one day a woman anchored her boat beside mine. we passed each other ashore just once at the harbor and she hit on me and invited me back to her boat. i told her i’d love nothing more but i could not risk exposure because of my weak immune system. she said it was a shame but that she understood. that night i was watering my vegetable garden i grew in 5 gallon buckets up on my roof and playing music on my speaker. “american pie” came on and she climbed up on her roof and shouted all the lyrics to every verse at me across the water and we danced together on our respective roofs. she raised anchor and moved on a few days later.

so yeah i know what it is to die a thousand deaths in an instant while your heart beats on.

Do you have to wash your rice or not?

If you want to get rid of the starchy texture and/or you live in a country where rice isn’t always clean: yes.

If you want extra starchiness or stickiness and/or you care about keeping the nutritional powder in there: no.

If you are making a risotto or a paella: no.

If you are boiling your rice in a lot of water and then draining it like spaghetti to reduce the risk of arsenic exposure: no.

being into rocks and minerals is so annoying because it's hard to look anywhere without seeing crystal healing stuff. looking up the properties of a certain mineral? you get articles about its supposed healing properties. go to a rock shop? stuff is marketed based on crystal healing. go to a gem and mineral show? oh you bet there's crystal healing stuff everywhere! i've even seen crystal healing books being sold in the gift shops of science museums. it sucks cuz in terms of actual scientific knowledge, rocks and minerals are SO much more complex and fascinating and interesting than anything in crystal healing, but the pseudoscience just sorta has an iron grip on this stuff. it's sad

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
