Writing Prompt #2675
He hated that it wasn't worth it. After everything he sacrificed, and told himself that it would be in the end, it simply wasn't true. Everything he stood for was a lie, and everyone he hurt in the process was for nothing.

fuck unrequited love, give me unrequited devotion! give me a character who worships the mere ground their s/o walks on. give me a character who would do anything, cross any boundary or burn any bridge for the one they love. give me a character reveres and adores their partner to a religious (and unhealthy) extent
but the devotee just doesn’t get it. they don’t understand what they’ve done to receive this treatment or why the other character looks at them like they’ve just seen salvation. they fear they will never live up to the devoted one’s expectations and sometimes they wonder if their s/o is even in love with them, or if they’re really in love with the perfect version of them that they’ve created in their mind.
bonus points if the constant devotion and worship starts to drive a wedge between them!!!!!!

writers and artists will go "this isn't good enough." my brother in christ, you're creating something new out of nothing and expressing yourself creatively. your productivity and unrealistic standards of perfection do not define you or the worth of your art. you're doing great.

Flaws to Give to Characters II
When I first posted "Flaws to Add to Characters," it gained a lot more popularity than I thought it would! And since you all loved it so much, here's another one!
>>> Selfishness - When one becomes too focused on themselves, they start to ignore those around them who've helped along the way.
>>> Indecisiveness - When one can't make a decision, ultimately, they are stuck and unable to progress.
>>> Self-Centered - Self-centered people are often too consumed with themselves to worry about anything else. Sometimes it's similar to selfishness, and other times it's not. They may be too vain or too busy victimizing themselves to care about others.
>>> Gullibility - A seriously gullible person is easy to trick, manipulate, and hurt.
>>> Skepticality - People that are just too skeptical can be difficult to deal with because they seemingly have to question every action. There's always a motive behind kindness, right..?
>>> Bluntness - Though honesty is the best policy, bluntness is something else. Being too honest can be quite hurtful depending on the situation.
>>> Pushover - Not being able to say "no" when one wants to makes it difficult to be able to advocate for themselves. Additionally, they can get taken advantage of and used.
>>> Easily Offended - This person will absolutely take EVERYTHING personally. Those around them have to be careful about their words, actions, or even behavior because they will look too deep into the most non-meaningful actions. This is usually a result of insecurity.
>>> Overthinking - We all have our moments with this one. Overthinking can often lead to indecisiveness, ensuring that a decision won't be made in the future.
>>> Impulsivity - Sometimes it's better to just think things through. Being too impulsive can lead to unideal situations, events, and outcomes.
Whaddya think? Were these helpful? I'm thinking about continuing these series, but what do you think? (Not gonna lie, these posts help me get my ideas and thoughts in order too.)
Happy writing~

Quote Prompt
“I know we’re not really friends-friends, we’re barely work-friends, so I want you to know that I really appreciate you sitting with me and petting my hair all night while I was vomiting at last week’s party. That was really cool of you. I bought you some new pens to say thank you.”

It's been years since they lost A. Really -- years. The team's turned over since then. Some left, some retired, some were forced to quit. Some, like the ones they're retrieving now among the rubble, were laid to rest. The pain of some losses is still raw, but A... That pain's long since faded to a dull ache. Just a story, a legend, to most of the team actually. Very few remember them.
All the photos of all those who fought together are tucked away inside an album. But it's still A's photo that lies smiling, just behind the cover. There's a glimmer in their eye, just the tip of a bayonnet balanced in the corner of the photo. Lines at the corners of their eyes betray how much they'd seen before joining the team.
None of them expected A to turn up on the brink of death... as a civilian casualty.

Hmm... thinking about when the team has been split up for an extended period of time for whatever reason, and when they get back together, they're all vaguely aware of where most of them were in that time/what they were up to. Except one, no one knows with them. And they're being a bit cagey about it maybe, and sometimes the rest of the team sees them flinch at quick movements, or caught them having nightmares or avoiding sleeping at all... and slowly, they begin to piece together that the character's been hurt. One of their own has been hurt, and they weren't there to help, or stop it, or look after them.

I love it when a really strong team leader, who usually speaks in a loud and clear voice, is reduced to soft muttering by whatever pain they’re dealing with. The team members see their leader in some sort of visible discomfort and ask if they’re okay. Despite the fact that leader says they’re fine, the team can tell immediately by the small voice they speak in that they are most certainly not fine.

I'll do anything to keep you safe.
A whispered assurance to a shaking Youngest, clinging to Leader's shirt after a failed mission. They'd nearly been caught, saved only by a lucky shot made by Leader.
I'll do anything to keep you safe.
Said with a determined set to their jaw to Teammate before embarking on a risky solo trip to steal some much needed medicine for their infection. Without it, Teammate may have died.
I'll do anything to keep you safe.
A meek excuse as Medic grumbled and cleaned the wound, asking Leader why they weren't brought along on the mission. Medic had just recovered from their own injury, and Leader wanted them to rest a little longer.
I'll do anything to keep you safe.
A final promise to Right Hand, someone they considered their sibling. Right Hand, who had a clear view in their cell of Teammate, Medic, and Youngest being escorted by guards at the start of their trip to the border for their exile, and Leader's mangled corpse in a gibbet, swaying gently with the wind.

Whumpee's eyes fluttered open, still slimy from sleep, stinging from last night's crying. For a moment they debated getting up. Just the natural stretch of their body trying to wake convinced them otherwise. Pain shot out from their side. They recoiled instantly, curling back into a ball.
It wasn't optimal, their team needed them, but a few extra hours of sleep wouldn't hurt. The pain would surely dull by then. Whumpee was so tired they failed to register the runny nose, or ear splitting headache starting to form. They focused on the radiating pain of their side. Idly they picked at the stuffy bandage, while slipping back to sleep.
Caretaker would know though, when they entered their leaders room late that afternoon to find them sweat drenched and delirious in bed.
"Leader?", They asked, more fear than they wanted lacing their tone.
"Just five more minutes.", Whumpee murmured.

There's not enough leader whumpees. They desperately try to stay strong because people depend on them. They are distant because they are an authority figure. They don't get the attention they need because they seem like they're holding themselves and the team together just fine. They never stop, so the others can. They do everything to keep their people safe. Just. Leader whumpees.
