Childe's gaze was elsewhere, his deep azure eyes searching for the next threat. To be honest, the Millelith was more of a nuisance than anything else. He was focused on seeking out the prying eyes of the Seven Stars of Liyue. They were the only ones who could proceed to disrupt his plan, now set in motion, especially now that their god was dead.
By the time he glanced back towards the traveler, she was already moving to overtake his pace. Oh? Now that was interesting. Clearly this was not the first time she ran on an injury and most likely not the worst she had faced. Guess there was some truth in the stories that resonated from Mondstadt. Though her comment about keeping up did earn a snicker. Cheeky.
Returning his focus to their path, the auburn-haired man made sure to cover their tracks as they raced through the streets. The last thing he wanted was for someone to come and disrupt him when he was just starting to pin down a lead. Ducking and weaving through narrow streets and busy paths, the Harbinger soon felt confident enough to bring their escape to a halt. Of course, it would help that this spot just happened to sit right beneath the Northland Bank.
Reaching out to cut off her path with an extended arm, Childe ushered the traveler back into the shadows of a stairwell. They wouldn't catch much attention here, but it also wasn't so secluded to make the woman uncomfortable.
After peeking out and confirming they hadn't been followed, Childe was finally able to get a good look at the traveler. Honestly, she was shorter than he expected. Though, from personal experience with another Fatui Harbinger, he knew better than to bring up height with potentially lethal beings. Instead, he started with a playful comment. "Used to running, are we? Not my preferred method, but it works." He snickered, the smile failing to reach his eyes. Leaning back against the wall in an attempt to show he wasn't an immediate threat, he glanced down at her leg.
"Hey, why don't you come with me to the Northland Bank. We can take care of that wound of yours, and I can promise the Millelith won't follow you there." His words came out as more of an order, and he realized his mistake a second too late. "Ah, sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. You can call me Childe— and I'm not here to cause you trouble. You have my word." For now.
And thus the moon met the sea
She'd never seen a place as.. Vast as the nation before her. Bright red bridges stretched across the night sky. Dark swirls of blues and gray disrupted by dotted lights of gold? Was that gold in the sky? No... Well, there was that strange structer off in the distance, perhaps these lights really were gold. Metal heels scuffed and scratched with wear clack against soft soil to solid brick. Her chest fills with the flutter of butterflies. She's finally made it! Liyue!
Lips tug upward, curl into a smile of awe, while her golden orbs stare up and off. Paying far more attention to the sky then to the crowd, graceful steps still carried her rather easily. Weaving past body by body, managing to dodge each individual citizen that filled the streets.

The way everything happened so quickly would have sent him scrambling if he wasn't a soldier. Watching civilians panic and scream as their god fell from the sky as a corpse was alarming, yes, but it didn't quell the frustration that existed in the back of his mind. Of course, his plan couldn't go smoothly.
Eyes narrowed as he took in the scene from the rooftop, Childe noted the flow of the crowd. He also knew his secondary target was heading in the opposite direction. Now, Lumine, what is your plan? Having the opportunity to observe this woman in motion would be useful, if nothing more to gauge her movements and skill.
Following her from above as she darted for the exit after touching the Archon, Childe counted at least five Millelith on her tail. Easy enough. He had decided on how he wanted to play this game, and how to move forward with the Tsaritsa's requests. Maybe he only understood what her words meant now. No matter, he wanted to sway this traveler to his side.
As soon as blood was drawn and the woman was cornered, Tartaglia decided to step in. With a sharp breath, the man summoned his bow and willed arrows made of hydro into existence. "Hey girlie, hold still." He spoke, hoping his words were just loud enough for her to hear. It was another second later that he pulled back the bowstring and let the projectiles fly consecutively. One, two, three, all struck their designated targets. This gave him just enough room to jump from his cover and land between the guards and the golden haired traveler.
Quickly dispatching the men who were still in shock after being attacked so suddenly, Childe summoned his hydro blades and swiftly cut down the other two. Of course, he knew better than to actually kill them as he was an envoy of Snezhnaya, but he did injure them enough to stop them in their tracks. Glancing around to see that the Millelith were barely conscious, he turned his attention to Lumine.
"Come with me." He spoke, taking note of her injury, before turning towards the path they could use to escape. She could still move, though it would clearly be difficult with that wound. However, it would be better to deal with it when they were in the clear.

Getting distracted from his search for the traveler as the murmurs from the crowd grew, Childe found himself to be quite curious about this occasion. He hadn't personally met any Archons other than his own, though his fellow Harbingers held nearly as much, if not more, power than the gods of old. He wondered what it would be like to face off against someone who existed during the Archon War.
Jogging forward towards the edge of the roof, his combat boots came to an abrupt halt at the sight of something stirring in the clouds above. Face tilted towards the sky, Childe felt a chill run up his spine, and with that chill came a grin. So this was the Geo Archon.
Something in his core swirled with excitement as the clouds continued to darken the skies with the coming of Liyue's God. It was the thrill of encountering something much stronger than himself—someone he could truly test his limits with. He had to take this Gnosis for the Tsaritsa, but why not enjoy the thrills of battle first?
Entirely taken by this idea of facing off against this ancient power, Childe almost missed the movements from the crowd below. Almost. The young Harbinger's deep abyssal gaze dropped as shouts of discontent rose from those gathered below. The one causing this stir was hooded, but it didn't take much guesswork on his part to put a name to the figure. Target number two was acquired.

It was the third day without so much as a glance of the traveler. To say Tartaglia was frustrated was most definitely an understatement. Even though it was technically his fault to begin with, he was working the agents and grunts under his control to the bone. In the end, it was for naught. Not a single person had seen the person they were searching for in the past 72 hours. At this point, the Harbinger was convinced that she might carry similar powers to the adpeti if she could simply vanish from existence at will. Little did he know, Lumine was simply good at evading those who sought her out. With a frown etched on his face, Tartaglia had to end this search and call it a complete failure. Not one to enjoy losing, the man was in a particularly bitter mood. Regardless, he still had to attend the rite of descension. Here, he could hope to find either the Geo Archon or the elusive traveler. Their intel pointed to the fact that she wanted an audience with the archons throughout Teyvat, so maybe he could intercept her here. Stalking the outskirts of the event, as he was not welcome at such an important festival, Childe kept his head down as he maneuvered the crowds and scaled walls to avoid the eyes of the Millelith. Worst of all, the Qixing were more active than ever. As good as the Fatui information was, they still weren’t able to pin down the identities of more than half of the seven members. This made his job that much harder, having to be careful around everyone rather than avoiding the acute gazes of a select few. As the man scaled a roof to view the descent of the Geo Archon from a distance, curses in his native tongue were growled under his breath as he failed to notice the traveler. Fine, whatever. Tartaglia was here to steal this damn Archon’s gnosis, and the woman was just a sideshow at best. His first and most important mission was to fulfill her majesty’s desire for these pieces, which represented each archon’s claim to power. So, all he could do now was wait. With his arms crossed over his chest and a keen eye for anything out of the ordinary, he waited for the rite of descension to begin.

Whatever it was—goodwill, luck, the grace of an archon—he didn't have it. Suddenly alert as he realized the blonde had all but vanished from his sight, the Harbinger clicked his tongue in annoyance. It was his fault for zoning out and losing sight of his objective, but to be fair, there were far more grunts suited to this task than he was. Running a hand through his messy hair as he glanced around, Childe decided to call it a day. The report wouldn't be fun, especially when he had to admit that he had lost his target, but there was nothing he could do about it now. Walking along the streets of Liyue, he sought out the traveler. Maybe she had just taken a different route somewhere. According to the agents stationed at the edges of the city, she hadn’t left either. So, she was somewhere in the harbor, but where exactly? Someone might have agreed to lodge her for the night while he was preoccupied. Regardless, it was quickly becoming clear that she was nowhere to be found and that continuing his patrol was a fruitless mission. With no motivation to continue his hunt, Childe returned to his office in the Northland Bank. They had a few days until the descent of Rex Lapis—a few days to insure this traveler wouldn’t interrupt the Fatui’s plans. What their logistics saw in her, he had yet to understand. Hopefully, she would turn out to be a worthy adversary if nothing else. He was itching to prove himself in battle. Seating himself at his desk, Tartaglia quickly wrapped up the monotonous job of concluding reports that were to be immediately sent back to Snezhnaya. He also made sure to finish up the necessary paperwork to keep the Qixing from being too wary of his existence. Stifling a yawn as he retired to his private quarters for the night, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this Lumine was going to end up as a thorn in their side.

As he had previously surmised, the traveler’s funds were in short supply. In hindsight, it was also a surprise to him. This woman, or Lumine, as the files that lay on his desk back in the Northland Bank called her, had a very positive reputation among the people she worked with. Whether it was for the simple folk outside the cities or the Knights of Favonious themselves, she was trusted. Yet, the people rarely gave her enough to live off of. In Childe’s opinion, it felt as though she was being used. It was such a shame that the Fatui expected him to do the same.
When the Harbinger overheard Lumine seeking out an herb shop, his thoughts immediately went to Bubu Pharmacy. That reminded him that his order for the uncommon medicine that helped his father’s illness should be complete soon. He would have to send some extra doses and a letter to his siblings. As those thoughts went through his head, he recalled how long it had been since he had seen them. The man wanted nothing more than to find a letter waiting in his room from his family.
No, this wasn’t the time to let his mind drift. However, it was easy to do when all he was assigned was the simple task of tailing a person of interest. Childe would much prefer time in battle, honing his skills. He was supposed to be one of the Tsartisa’s weapons, not some simple grunt that completed mundane tasks. As much as he respected her majesty’s demands, this was quickly becoming the most boring of them all. Regardless, he had orders to follow. Instead of sending this harbor into chaos to draw out their target, the geo archon, he had to play this game of chess with the nation of commerce.
Shaking his head, Childe had managed to entirely zone out. He didn’t know what to blame, his lack of sleep, or impatience with the situation, but he quickly got to his feet and glanced around. He hadn’t lost her, had he?

Peeking out from around the stand, Childe noticed the blonde’s lips moving as she chatted with a woman beside the adventurer's guild. Unable to decipher their words, he took a risk and decided to move closer. Ordering from the Wanmin Restaurant just opposite where she stood should at least disguise him as a waiting patron. Deciding on this plan of action, the Harbinger moved swiftly and requested the order before sitting at the accompanying tables. He could barely hear the traveler from here.
From his new position, he was just able to catch the tail end of the conversation. She was seeking shelter. Pondering his next move, Childe had to take a moment to weigh his options. He could give up his anonymity to answer her question, which could leave a positive image of him in her mind. Building trust with his targets wasn’t exactly his game, but it could work. With this, he could also keep tabs on her position. However, the orders he received told him to remain in the shadows. Tapping his fingers on his knee as Childe debated his next move, his thoughts were interrupted by the chef calling out to him. Time was up.
After retrieving his order, Childe decided to stick to his original orders. Monitor her, but don’t interact unless a third party decides to interfere. So for now, he would focus on tracking her until he was told otherwise. If she doesn’t turn out to be as impactful as the Fatui estimated her to be, he could always have agents follow her instead.
Sitting back in his chair, he took note of the nearby inns while chewing thoughtfully on the snack he ordered. Some rooms were often available within the harbor for a hefty price, but there was a cheaper option just southwest of the city. By her word choice, he can assume that her funds were tight and she would choose the latter. Good, that gave him something to work with. Finishing off his skewer, Childe rose and dared to take a glance toward his target. She was unlike the people he was often chosen to tail, but he knew more than anyone that looks could be deceiving.

‎‎‎ㅤA traveler with short blonde hair and golden eyes. That was the description that was passed to him from his agents. That was his target. What he would do with her when he finally found her was entirely up to her. Childe wasn't given explicit orders to eliminate her, but that was the usual fate of the unfortunate souls he tracked down. However, those individuals often had outstanding debts. This one was different.  ㅤThe Harbinger moved smoothly through the crowded Liyue streets, his eyes locked on the light flaxen hair that bobbed in the distance. His sights were set, and those around him seemed to sense the intensity of his features, allowing him room to pass. His name wasn't unfamiliar to these people. His deeds were spoken of even more often. Never mess with one of the eleven. ㅤAs the distance between them closed, the auburn-haired man took note of the way she stared at the world around her in awe. His reports stated she would just be arriving from Mondstadt, and this city was very different from the Free City. Not well traveled, noted. At least that was his assumption. There was information that the Tsaritsa and the upper Harbingers continued to withhold from him, and he had a feeling this person was of more interest than they let on. So, he'd figure it out himself. ㅤAs he reached a distance that could give away his position to a trained eye wary of those in pursuit, Childe ducked behind a stand. The vendor eyed him with confusion but was quickly subdued as the young man slipped a couple of mora their way. Meanwhile, Tartaglia's cool gaze continued to follow the woman. Now, where was she going?

{{ — Just curious, is anyone interested in a chilumi rp? I've really been craving the power duo content and there's something so satisfying about roleplaying them. Send me a quick dm or like the post and I'll reach out. Open to basically anything as long as it's Childe & Lumine! (18+ mdni)

Yeah, no. Not even going to bother to hide it anymore. I have been diagnosed with chilumi fever. At first it started out innocent like, lol look they'd be cute together, little battle buddies that beat the shit out of each other respectfully. And then it became holy fuck their dynamic is something I NEED IN MY LIFE. In all the fluffy, family loving, tender ways while also bearing red-flags, opposite sides and I would probably betray you if it really came down to it. Both Lumine and Childe have such perfect opportunities for angst in the most satisfying ways for my tragedy loving writer ways.
Anyways, now that that's out there, I would really love to find a roleplay partner that is willing to rp Chilumi. I honestly don't care who is who, I love them both and I just want to play with these characters. 18+ is required as I don't feel comfortable roleplaying with minors. DM me, respond to the post, whatever! I'd prefer to rp either here or discord but if you're interested, we can talk everything through. Thank you for bearing with this brain dump.
(As a side note, any arguments on this post will result in an immediate block. Lumine has never been a minor and the story, for those with reading comprehension, has made that abundantly clear. Don't agree? I implore you to block me. It'll make both our lives easier.)
