A current project that I am working on. It will be a full hand crocheted patchwork sweater. The individual squares are single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet and granny squares. I used oil pastel and pencil for the drawings to give myself an idea of what shape I want to aim for.

A tote bag made from scrap fabric and a patterned tie found in a charity shop. I used bleach to add a pattern to the brown fabric and tried to mimic the shapes on the tie with this technique.

Hand crocheted granny square bag. The strap is also made out of smaller granny squares and crocheted together with the contrasting red wool to create the pattern of the strap. The bag is lined with calico to make it stronger and so the square holds its shape.

A few hand knitted tops that I have made outside of my university work. I also knitted a matching bag to go with the first top. It is fun to see how I can make each one fit slightly different as I created all of these free-hand.

I used knit in this project because it is a medium I enjoy and it was a nice way to be able to explore and create shapes that I wanted to achieve and experiment with how these worked together on the body. I purposefully used loosely hand knitted pieces in order to expose the body as female liberation was a huge part of the 70s.

Some of my favourite fashion illustrations and garment ideas. I took a lot of inspiration from 70s architecture and interior, especially the shapes and colours found throughout my research. I also really wanted to incorporate knit into this project as it is a technique I really love working with. I used posca markers, pen, pencil, paper and water colour for these illustrations.

Primary research and drawings, experiments and scans in response to this for my final major project. Scans from '70s Style and Design' and 'The 70s: The Decade That Style Forgot'.

Images from a draping workshop in which we had to work with the same pieces of fabric to explore different shapes and techniques. We were also given challenges to use only 3, 5 or 10 pins. I enjoyed exploring pleating and folding and challenging myself to create shapes and ideas using limited resources.

I developed my photographs by manually manipulating them using scrap paper, oil pastel and pen to add depth and texture to my final outcomes. I like how the mark makings mirror the shapes that can be seen in the creases of the fabric.

I had to gather objects and think of unconventional ways to use them. I decided to go for a neutral colour scheme which I think ended up looking really nice with the natural lighting for my initial photographs.

Once I had a structure that fit on to the body, I painted it white and used spray paint to create lines that replicated the charcoal drawings I created. I like how it refers back to my starting point of the scaffolding which could be perceived as quite sculptural in itself.

I also used acrylic paint and charcoal to explore more shapes and techniques. After also experimenting with some quilting techniques, I decided to take a more sculptural approach to create a final outcome. I used wire and tape to create the foundations and then covered that in tape to make it in to a solid base. I used plaster to make it stronger.

For this brief I had to pull inspiration from within 2m of my workspace which was the university library in the city centre. I decided to use scaffolding as my primary research. I took some long exposure photos of the scaffolding which I liked because it made the rigid, sturdy metal become fluid. I then created initial drawings/mark makings from these using pen and water colour and a variety of brushes.
